Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Quiet

With no red cards shown in the fixtures this week, we’d a sparse looking inbox in terms of suspensions, but never fear – there are still some tidbits to throw your way, as the tightrope continues to creak under a heavy load.

Easing that load on Saturday, and perhaps the highest profile of those newly banned for next weekend, Chris Baird is the first to take our interest. Booked for protesting the injury time penalty award for Arsenal at the Emirates, the Northern Irishman had his pain immediately eased by the outstanding glovework of his goalkeeper but a ban still follows; he’ll be absent for the visit of Sunderland next Sunday, with Mahamadou Diarra the obvious replacement should he regain his fitness.

Also doing their bit to free up space on the sidebar widget were Stoke City’s Dean Whitehead and Sunderland’s Craig Gardner, both falling foul of the referee for the fifth time this season in their respective second halves against QPR and Everton. While Gardner will now accompany Baird in the stands at Craven Cottage, Whitehead will be missing a tricky trip to the Boleyn Ground, as the Potters face an in-form West Ham.

Replacing those three unbalanced folk up on the high wire this week we have a former Galactico in the shape of Esteban Granero, and a man capped by France at every age group level (though with the notable exception of the seniors) in Morgan Schneiderlin. Grabbing Southampton’s goal in a 1-1 draw with Swansea which lifted his side off the foot of the table, Schneiderlin also picked up his fourth yellow for unsporting behaviour. The Saints were replaced at the bottom by the QPR side of ‘El Pirata’ Granero, who picked up his censure in the final throws of their latest defeat.

Finally in our round up, it’s the old timers, with Cheick Tioté completing his three-match ban this week to be available for the Gameweek 12 shakeup; he waved goodbye to teammate Fabricio Coloccini who will sit out his second game of three, and QPR’s Stéphane M’Bia serving the last of his trio of enforced absences.

I think that like Dempsey last year, his price will continue to rise through most of the year. He entered the season priced more like the holding mid role that he played off/on through much of last year. This year he's really being used as a second striker in a lot of games and yet gets midfielder points for his goals. He got used as a lone striker at times in the first half of last year before Jelavic came in and Moyes definitely has faith in him. Yes, Everton has had benefit of sweet fixtures to start the season and the rest of the season will be a bit rougher, but the BFW (Belgian Fright Wig) is quality and can score against the tougher squads as well.

cheers guys, done now, only problem is I know have Jelavic Baines and Fellaini so a bit heavy on Toffees......although this might not be such a bad thing with games coming up and Everton's good form looking like it will continue.....

What do you think about Adam Johnson? Is he a good bet?

Sunderland have a very good fixtures, and he will have a double Game Week 16.

Do you prefer Adam Johnson or Larson?

even Larsson and Johnson can't do that bad in a DGW. Personally, my game plan by GW 16 is to bring in: Mignolet, Cuellar, and Larsson (set pieces). Unless one of my strikers gets injured (Berba, Suarez, Tevez), I am not considering bringing in Fletcher.

Well the topic is suspensions and this is a big reason i'm avoiding Fellani and sticking with Pienaar, I have Suarez anyway and delaying getting him in my Telegraph team due to the suspension that could hit at any time.

Is Pienaar playing a different role really THAT bad when you compare him to Fellani?

My team at the mo, I have 1 ft and 2.2mill sat in the bank.

Any suggestions would also be appreciated.

    Begovic/Jaask
    Baines/Olsson/Demel/Cuellar/Shorey
    Hazard/Pienaar/Cazorla/Michu/Guthrie
    Pog/RVP/Suarez

Pog coming in before the QPR game is definately a regret, and left me with this annoying situation to replace, as he is cheap, but so cheap the 2.2mill in the bank doesnt bring up many more options either.

Sorry to waffle - maybe I need to take a hit

0.1mill short of Mata, I think Pog was the worst idea i've ever had.

Plus Guthrie is down to 4.3mill now so cant replace him with anyone.

It's Monday, so ill post a bit of a bait to see who bites...

Suarez > RVP when all is said and done on respective careers.

RVP is 29 and only had one great full Season so far in his career. His International record is decent, but unlikely to be remembered or to win anything significant. A World Class player who unfortunately suffered from injury throughout. Averaged a goal every 2nd game in his career to date (ignoring the Dutch league figures) Has the talent to last into his thirties if he stays injury free, but it will be a tall task imo considering his playing career to date and the affects of age. Should win a decent haul of trophies with United, probably the last big move of his career.

Suarez is 25 and already has a better International record, Player of the Copa America in 2011 and a goal every 2nd game or so internationally (28 in 54). Getting close to a similar record with Liverpool. Has plenty of time left and is naturally very fit. Could well be a future captain for club and country Saddens me to say, but could move onto another big(er) club and win a big haul of trophies soon, he would be in demand.

Course it is all theory craft, Suarez could get injured and that's the end of that. Such is the nature of Football. But I think if you judge peoples careers by performance to date and potential, Suarez could be a legend. RVP is World Class, but a touch of what could have being over his head, a Torres of the game (Brilliant for a time, may win stuff, but a question mark over his greatness and sustainability).

Ps. I admit to being fully biased in this and phrasing it in such a way to be a bit of a wum. Suarez will no doubt pick up his customary ban and tbh I hope RVP wins some silverware and stays fit over the next few years, when fit, he is the best striker I have seeing in the Premier league.)

I think what our resident Croat wummer said repeatedly is that Suarez is better than RVP right now. He's not.

What he went on to say and what you're saying is that Suarez in 10 years time will have a better career than RVP. Could well be true. Could see Suarez being lured to Real next summer.

He has a way with words..:)

I did suggest yesterday, well actually said that Suarez in the league has being more impressive this year then RVP to date as he gets so little service and creates so much, where it has being handier for RVP thus far, better team around him by far in the attacking sense.

But overall, id say RVP is currently the better player. But his age and injury record would have put me off buying him if I was United. it's working great so far though!

Off the field he seems a very genuine and decent bloke. On the field, it is part of his game that is unlikely to ever fully leave behind. In truth, his extreme combativeness and will to win probably makes him the player he is. It has it's negatives as well.

What's best about Sagna is that you can expect some attacking points from him, cause he likes to go forward and crosses the ball pretty well. So, if you focus on that, not on the cleanie, you choice makes much more sense.

i read it on youtube comment but not sure it's true
"When we got the corner Carragher wanted to get in the box, but everyone was telling him to get back and defend instead.
That's one of reasons why most of the players choose to congratulate Carra on his fantastic assist, some even thought he was the one who scored. After the equalizer we only thought about one thing, and that was to try and get a second goal.''

I did Pienaar -- fellani and tevez -- Suarez last night for a hit. Couldn't afford it otherwise, fully expect it to bite me in the gluteus maximus but hoping it won't 🙂

    Thinking of doing:

    Tevez - Berba
    Maloney - Fellaini

Just feeling that i am carried away with last week's performance.... will Berba and Fellaini oiutperform
Tevez... I hardly play Maloney btw.

I can't believe how slowly Morrison is rising. It took him an eternity to go up to 6.1 and now after his second big haul he's creeping towards 6.3 meanwhile the likes of Fellaini/Michu have steamrolled their way up in price every time they've scored big and sometime even when they havn't

Morrison still doesn't convince me in FPL...but I think he's had a fantastic season so far!

He misses too much game time. Makes me nervous about getting him.
