Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Quiet

With no red cards shown in the fixtures this week, we’d a sparse looking inbox in terms of suspensions, but never fear – there are still some tidbits to throw your way, as the tightrope continues to creak under a heavy load.

Easing that load on Saturday, and perhaps the highest profile of those newly banned for next weekend, Chris Baird is the first to take our interest. Booked for protesting the injury time penalty award for Arsenal at the Emirates, the Northern Irishman had his pain immediately eased by the outstanding glovework of his goalkeeper but a ban still follows; he’ll be absent for the visit of Sunderland next Sunday, with Mahamadou Diarra the obvious replacement should he regain his fitness.

Also doing their bit to free up space on the sidebar widget were Stoke City’s Dean Whitehead and Sunderland’s Craig Gardner, both falling foul of the referee for the fifth time this season in their respective second halves against QPR and Everton. While Gardner will now accompany Baird in the stands at Craven Cottage, Whitehead will be missing a tricky trip to the Boleyn Ground, as the Potters face an in-form West Ham.

Replacing those three unbalanced folk up on the high wire this week we have a former Galactico in the shape of Esteban Granero, and a man capped by France at every age group level (though with the notable exception of the seniors) in Morgan Schneiderlin. Grabbing Southampton’s goal in a 1-1 draw with Swansea which lifted his side off the foot of the table, Schneiderlin also picked up his fourth yellow for unsporting behaviour. The Saints were replaced at the bottom by the QPR side of ‘El Pirata’ Granero, who picked up his censure in the final throws of their latest defeat.

Finally in our round up, it’s the old timers, with Cheick Tioté completing his three-match ban this week to be available for the Gameweek 12 shakeup; he waved goodbye to teammate Fabricio Coloccini who will sit out his second game of three, and QPR’s Stéphane M’Bia serving the last of his trio of enforced absences.

Do we think Fellaini will drop deeper vs. ARS, mci, TOT?

3 weeks vs that opposition is a long time to have a holding mid on your hands. + the suspension.

Even if he stays up top, I'm not sure I want him for those. If I get him, it's more than likely just a 2 week deal.

He's my rivals main differential. I am tempted to hold tight, admit I missed the boat, and try and find my own differential.

Anyone else thinking that way on Fells?

Why will he though? He's scoring so much, why would Moyes even put him there?

To counter the threat of possession teams. He's their best presser and ball-winner as well as their best goalscorer. It will be a decision Moyes will have to make in each game IMO.

If jelly starts scoring Fellaini will be starting up top with him and dropping back as and when strengthening is required. Against top teams he is likely to do what he did against united (started up top avoiding Vidic so he could attack well, as soon as we scored followed Vidic around to negate his threat going forward). At present he is the main source of goals so needs to be up there, but jelly is due form so he can play more defensively. He's like Moyes having 2 players really..

This. When Neville went off to be replaced by Vellios, Fellaini dropped deep. He was more effective, arriving later in the box, effectively winning the game for the Blues.

Why are ARS, TOT difficult games? The way they are playing Everton will be confident against them. This year is a great opportunity for Everton to get into top 4. So Fellaini will not drop deep, IMO.

This is a good point, and Everton will certainly have a good go. But Moyes will also be aware when making a gameplan, that he's playing two of the best possession teams in the league (on their day - which is often in big games) in TOT and ARS.

Fernando Torres' lack of goals will prevent Chelsea from claiming the Premier League title this season, according to former Liverpool midfielder Jan Molby

"I just don’t fancy Chelsea to win the Premier League title this season because I always felt that their season would hinge on whether Torres could score 20-plus goals and that is not looking at all likely," Molby told the Daily Star.

"Chelsea’s downfall this season will be having Torres as the main striker and an over-reliance on their other attacking players.

"He should be pretty close to ten goals already at this stage of the season, and he’s not looking like a man capable of leading a team to the Premier League title in such a crucial position."

He is right I must say. We need Lukaku

Maybe Chelsea should try playing him as a number 9 and not a converted 10/7 that he is now. Plays with his back to the opposition keeper far too much. He is good at it, but not exceptional.

At Liverpool, he went missing for large chunks but hovered around the danger zones and made good runs off the shoulder.

Now he comes deep. It happens so often, I can only think it must be a tactical thing as surely someone would just tell him to stop coming deep if it was not.

I know he has lost a yard of pace, but he still has a nice touch, movement and acceleration that he would not make a bad number 9, ala his Liverpool days.

Seemed to accelerate a few times yesterday past players. Not the speed merchant he was for us, but even after his injuries before he moved to Chelsea he had a decent strike rate for us.

Probably cause he played his proper position, a classic number 9, none of this all round player malarky 🙂

He got chances, he converted. Happy days. Then he went to Chelsea and it truly went to pot.

Id say, get the old hairstyle back, play him off the shoulder, keep him out of general play and he would do alright.

Was he ever good at handling the ball? Whenever he receives a ball I am scared that he will loose it. He had pace previous but was he good with the ball? I don't remember. Or he was just getting in good positions and scoring ?

that is why I'm glad my team is the way it is. Jelly to Suarez is an easy transfer. I have Mata. Michu, Morrison and Ramirez are all capable of double digit hauls. Kebe is just bench fodder soon to be shipped (for Maloney most likely).

Would leave my team in 3 weeks looking like

          Migs, Foster

          Baines. Rafa, Huth, Shorey, Clyne

Michu, Mata, Ramirez, Morrison, Maloney (I like my mids with names starting in M apparently)

I've got him. Despite no points as yet (he was on the bench this week, so that was a good thing) I'm thoroughly enjoying his presence (and stats). Slightly sad to see him drop off your explosion imminent chart this week - thought 5 chances created and 4 penalty area touches would be enough to keep him there but hey ho.

It'll be his chances that kicked him off the main table, however he is firmly on this little nugget

Granero is an interesting one. I might get him in for Kebe the week before or after I do Tommy's move and go Jelly to Suarez. I hadn't even considered him, but he looks good.

I had Nolan for the first few weeks and then ditched him with the plan of getting him back gw21.

With the exception of yesterday, he's only about the home games. Exception yesterday was because of newcastles absences.

I'd say he'll be fairly poor for the next 9 weeks.

Repost: Had couple of bad weeks and saw red arrows. Still topping my mini league just about.

Did 2 FTs, Tevez-> Berba and Caz -> Fellaini. Already have Michu and Suarez on 4 yellows. And now Morrison and Ba are orange flagged.

Plus my defence is pants. Question is should I do a WC now?

Or just do Ba -> RvP and forget about the defence and Morrison?

    Present team is

    Howard/Fed

I don't get what this means does it mean taht you get to win a prize in what ever league you are in and come first in the Q1 Q2 Q3 and Q4
Additionally, for the first time in Fantasy Premier League history, the season will be divided into four quarters: Q1 (GW 1-9), Q2 (GW 10-19), Q3 (GW 20-29) Q4 (GW 30-38). The person that finishes top of each quarterly leaderboard will receive a VIP trip to watch a Barclays Premier League team of their choice with pre-match meal, two nights’ accommodation and transfers included.

This is basically for the overall leaderboard, you get a Prize if you are top of the overall rankings after GW9, or top of the overall rankings only including points from the particular quarter relevant, so the person with the highest total score from GWs 10-19 gets a prize too.

    2 FTs

Think I'll probably do the straight-up City / Arse switcheroo (after the internashers):

    Tevez > Giroud
    Caz > Silva

    Sound about right?

I'll deal with my rival's Fellaini ownership by clinging to the hope that Baines will get a penalty, praying he gets booked, and consoling myself with my Michu value which I'm too scared of losing 🙁

I've got so much bladdy money tied up in him though! And he would be a lovely differential if he Swansea clicked again. Thing is, he didn't have one attempt at goal vs Southampton (if I'm reading that correctly - didn't see the game). And if that carries on you'd guess he'd lose his OOP status soon too. Not cool

Don't worry about tied up value. It is only has any worth if you actually want that player in your team. You can think about it instead as 'cashing in' on the paper value when you lock it into another player.

Im thinking of Banking the money made by Mcauley and getting either:

    Wisdom or Billy Jones.

Any ideas of they are nailed on. Their history suggests so but im not sure.

I have wisdom but I wouldn't be rushing to get him. See if he starts this week.

Jenkinson needs to go before McAuley. Have you considered Turner (Norwich)

With Enrique's performance at the weekend it is possible that Wisdom could lose his place in a 4-4-2, with Johnson and Enrique at full back, however Rodgers has shown plenty of faith in Wisdom so far and played GJ left back while Enrique was half fit and out if favour.

Wait on Wisdom until next weeks lineups.

      Don't know about Billy Jones

    Foster, Begovic
    Cahill, Rafael, Cuellar, Wilkinson, Gorkss
    Cazorla, Mata, Fellaini, Morrison, Britton
    RVP, Suarez, Ba

    1FT, 0.0 in bank

Do I give Ba/Cazorla another week to shine, or do I use my free to get in Berbatov/Silva?

Talk to me on Granero, saw your table, looks interesting, what week are you looking at getting him. Can afford to get him in this week for Kebe but would leave a massive benching dilemma as I'd have

    Granero, Ramirez, Michu, Mata, Morrison

    RvP, Berba, Jelly

Looking at maybe GW14 or 15 depending on which week I do Jelly to Suarez (though I'll likely have 2 FTs anyway)

Granero is the main creative man for QPR, takes a mean set-piece, and their fixtures are as good as they'll get. I've got him and Ramirez and it is going to mean benching dilemmas for sure and I imagine it'll be Granero 1st sub more often than not. But a strong bench will be useful over Xmas IMO.

What are you doing with Michu may I ask - not tempted with the obvious Michu > Fellaini switch for Norwich and Reading?

I have Jelavic, that will do me, otherwise it's an extra transfer I'll have to make in 2 weeks. Am keeping for now, but monitoring. The thing is, if you're not going to play Granero in a home game v Saints, when will you play him?

What would you do in my position, was planning to save and also have a possible Hangeland price drop to consider

Thanks - sorry yeah, remember you saying you had Jelly. I have to think about rationalising things that way with Baines I suppose.

I am looking forward to playing Ramirez vs Granero this week, and probably benching Michu (if I still have him)

            I also have Baines.

Yeah benching Michu or Morrison could be an option. Will think it over until after internationals

No need to buy the Afro man when we have Jelly. Personally think he'll score more in the next two anyway.

It's a simple rotation of home fixtures with Granero and Lallana with sprinkling of benching Morrison when both has a tasty fixture (this week and GW16)

So is it Cazorla > Silva for you on top of Michu > Granero, Tommy?

Looks solid but not sure of Ramirez. Too much money to leave on bench.

I would downgrade Ramirez and try and get Suarez in in place of Ba/Giroud.
