The Watchlist – Antonio Valencia

Few men would envy the task of filling Cristiano Ronaldo’s golden slippers. When the Portuguese prima donna eloped from Manchester to Madrid in the summer of 2009, a club accustomed to stepping out with the Premier League’s prom queen could be forgiven for not immediately embracing the wholesome qualities of his replacement..

Doggedly supplying that deficit of glamour with industry and unselfishness since his arrival, Antonio Valencia has forged virtue of necessity and wrought himself a hard-won place in the hearts of the fans. If the Stretford End still secretly dreams of step-overs past, it wakes gladly divorced from the illusion that the value of a final ball depends on any preceding pirouettes.

Investment in the United midfield has been pregnant with rotational pitfalls since Ronaldo’s departure, but with Nani out of favour and new acquisition Shinji Kagawa deployed centrally or wide left, Valencia is currently relieved of credible understudies for his blooming duet with Rafael on the right. With four assists to his credit already in an injury-interrupted start and only a baffling, if hilarious, miskick robbing him of a tap-in against Arsenal two weeks ago, a big haul may be just around the corner for the former Wigan man as the goals flow and fixtures ease for the Reds.

Averaging a gnat’s whisker under three strikes a game since their opening day defeat at Everton, a run comprising (nor, QPR, WHM, rdg) in the next four Gameweeks seems likely to further augment that impressive average. Still smarting from last season’s goal-difference title defeat at the hands of their noisy neighbours, Ferguson has publicly set the pass mark at 100 notches on the goal post this time out and, with four goals and 14 assists last year, Valencia certainly has the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) pedigree to profit from a more ruthless offensive philosophy.

With the likes of Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard and Santi Cazorla somewhat treading water at the pricy end of the midfield spectrum, Fantasy managers may feel more at liberty to chance their arm on less celebrated candidates. Whilst out-and-out wingers have taken something of a back seat to “in the hole” midfield picks thus far, few wide men have access to the quality of the targets Valencia enjoys. Currently priced at 8.6 in FPL (7.9 in the Sky Sports game), the Ecuadorian dynamo looks primed to buck the trend and deliver strong value from out wide as United look to go forth and conquer over the coming weeks.

Yes but the church's influence over alot of matters in Ireland does not merit any justification and this is just an example of what they can do without any punishment. It is off topic to some extent but the point I'm making is that the church's fingers should be in their own pockets not in that of the HSE , the Government or little boys trousers for that matter.

Don't agree with this, faith has been responsible for setting up hospitals, orphanages and many outreach charities helping those who need it most so i think it's a bit unfair to use one example as a reason to view religion as complete nonsense.

Alot of Churches , mosques and synagogues are at the heart of the community and their good work, often for free, goes un-noticed.

It says in the bible what good is faitrh without works or works without faith. A pious Religion without works for good should be rightly viewed as hypocritical and nonsensicle, but faith and helping the poor is what Christians are called to do. Clearly this lady needed help and sadly didn't get it.

2FT. Can't deside what to do. Team:
    Bego
    Rafael, Baines, Demel
    Cazorla, Pienaar, hazard, Sterling
    Tevez, RVP, Berba

Bench: Jaask | Walters, Ridgewell, Davies

Thinking downgrade caz or haz to valencia and maybe silva. Thoughts?

Wildcarded this week, hows she looking? Fairly standard stuff I'd say. Perhaps needs some flair- like Bale>Silva, McCart>Gorkks(DGW in mind)?

    Bego Tremmel
    Baines Cameron Cuellar Hughes McCart
    Mata Bale Felliani Maloney Sterling
    RVP Suarez Berba

Bank 0.2 (Not as rich as most on here I think, can't afford a decent DFer to go with Baines and still have the front eight I want.

Any improvements you can think of? Suggestions welcome

Happy with Sterling/Maloney rotation actually and with a downgrade of Bale>Silva it certainly doesnt free up enough cash for anyone I might want (like Nolan)
Same goes for goalies too....I could splash a bit on Federici but he'll likely be dropped too when the other goalie is back from injury

I've got Bale > Silva and Lallana > Wally lined up for the next few FTs but it occurred to me that bringing Wally forward could actually pay off. If he does well he'll be the next bandwagon and I want in on the ground floor.

I would say Silva if it wasn't for a hit, but unfortunately he's not too explosive.

Very few midfielders are explosive enough for me to wholeheartedly recommend a hit. Fellaini or possibly Nolan if you don't have them, but I bet you do.

So! Who's it going to be this week guys and don't say Berbs....I'm just going to leave him in there for impact:-)

    Berbs SUN (H)
    Ba SWA (H)
    RVP NOR (A)
    Mata WBA (A)
    Bale ARS (A)
    Caz Bags TOT (H)
    BArfa SWA (H)
    Fellaini RDG (A)

If anyone has got a few words....who can be added/exited from the front 8?

Cheers HUTTON....I gathered as much along with Caz but Arsenal can't really do without Caz so looks like Mata is going to keep the seat warm this week.

Every time they rest him they basically don't score. I'm sure RDM will rest him. Winning the league is overrated.

It's a strange criticism....but, your front 8 is way too good. You'll be posting this question every single week and definitely continuing to leave lots of points on the bench from time to time

I've looked at it for like a minute and I just cannot bench any of them in my head

Cheers GAFFA but that's the joy of being a manager deciding who to field for the week and every manager is in the same boat. I would still like to be in the predicament each week decided who will be my starting 11. Anyone of my top 8 can be replaced at any one time so the scenario doesn't change. Cheers for your input and best of luck this week.

I'm gambling on Ba and RVP both starting. My other issue is the midfield I play, as they all have rather good fixtures:

    Mata (wba)
    Bale (ars)
    Michu (new)
    Fellaini (rea)
    Sterling (WIG)

    I'm leaning towards Sterling.

Although it depends - are those 2 defenders, defender numbers 4 and 5 in your squad or are they 2 and 3? Does that make sense?

          sagna would be 2

ridgewell would be rotated with cuellar and cameron as 3rd def on fixtures

what i wnat is a storng squad and i feelmy 2 weaklinks are davies and gorkss

and with mata and hazard away for the world match in dec it would be good to have various formations available to me.

Of all the shit X Factor and Rylan posts that clog up my Facebook and Twitter on a Saturday and Sunday night why did nobody mention James Arthurs performance! I have only just seen it. I would buy it now if it was released, better than Adeles version.

He's definitely talented. Shame he had to go on this sh*t to try and get noticed. I will be honest though, he to me sounds very similar to a number of smaller singer/songwriters I've heard over the past couple of years.

Disagree, he's got a grittier voice then most, raw emotion, a bit like Ray Lamontagne

We've just heard different singers. Sure a number of my friends in school used to be similar. I was always a bit more of a Jeff Buckley than anything.
