Moneyball – Esteban Granero

This is very likely the first and last time a former Real Madrid player graces the pages of the Moneyball series. Esteban Granero made an astonishing 31 appearances in the league in 2009-10 for Los Blancos, more than Guti, Rafael van der Vaart, Kaka and even Cristiano Ronaldo. The arrivals of Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil pushed Granero out of favour in future years, though he still managed to finish his time in Madrid with almost 100 appearances in three seasons before making his way to Loftus Road this season.

Despite that pedigree, his arrival in England barely registered on the transfer radar and he’s hardly captured the collective eye of Fantasy managers – Granero has just a 0.5% ownership in the Fantasy Premier League game, which has risen by just 10,000 or so transfers all year. Given that this is a Moneyball piece, though, we’re not going to settle on a player based on his CV: it’s when we delve into his statistics so far this term that Granero really catches the eye.

      If u were going to go one Stoke, one Hammer would not be better to have them be Bego and McCartney starting. Bego is more likely to have more saves and McCartney is more likely to assist. I feel like those two are more likely to earn u anything extra.

      Totally disagree, aside from the Hughes bit. Refreshing to see layers of his quality commit to a smaller club, the pl needs it to happen more. Sod the greedy rich clubs, that hoover up players for a lifetime on the squad sheet. We are a pl club regardless of how poor at present, we are entitled to have him as much as anyone else.

              Nothing's happened yet but it's been in the pipeline for a long, long time and is now fairly imminent. Last I heard was it was to be launched in January but I'm not sure what's get everyone talking about it all of a sudden.

              The way I understand it is there'll be some sort of reputation system whereby posters who receive positive feedback build a reputation and become more influential (i.e. their feedback carries more weight). Those who receive negative feedback will have less influence. Comments which receive sufficient negative feedback will be 'hidden' by default.

              I'm sure there's more to it than that but that's the gist I think.

              Most people will be broadly unaffected but hopefully there'll be a little less spam/nonsense showing by default.
