The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety – Subtle

Maybe I underestimated Granville. Maybe his throwaway comment made at 10.32 on a weary Wednesday evening wasn’t throwaway at all. Maybe Granville is a Fantasy football mind games genius.

Regardless of whether his plan was pre-meditated and devious, it certainly worked as you’ll find out in this, episode ninety of the ScoutCast.

Aside from my sidekick’s scheming, we give dear old Leighton another rinse following his twanged hamstring, tackle the template midfield yet again, check on the market movements in “all aboard” and, of course, look forward to the weekend action. We also start spending points on the ScoutCast team: it’s the slippery slope. Where’s Granville’s genius when you need it?

Reveal the evil plan via this link or simply stream this latest episode on the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Given Rafa's penchant for keeping it tight, I actually fancy West Ham for a CS...

In the unlikely event that McCartney doesn't play, I have stuck Cuellar as my first defensive sub ahead of Cameron, since I'm playing Begovic anyway...

You guys agree with this move?

          But seriously...

'In the unlikely event that McCartney doesn't play'

          HUH?

Also...what does Rafa's penchant for defensively keeping it tight have to do with West Ham's chances of a CS?

I guarantee you Chelsea score against West Ham...(uh oh...laying my reputation on the line here) 🙂

'In the unlikely event that McCartney doesn’t play', means that I think McCartney will definitely play if fit... which I think he will be...

            Does that clear things up?

Next, Rafa's team have had 3 SoT in 2 games and no goals... 'keeping it tight' is just my way to simplify that explanation...

Sou has been better at the back lately, and sterling is still not a goal machine, I believe you bought sterling to stay on your bench incase your other mids don't play, soo use him as that, he will score points on your bench occasionally but that's part of this game, isn't it?

IMO If you want to maximise your points potential in a scenario like this, and you have other options you can use instead of one of these players, you have to pick which one you think will score the most points and bench the other...

In my case, I have Nastasic & Fellaini, but will drop Fellaini for Sterling as I don't think Everton will score... I might get it wrong but at least I'm not sitting on the fence...

In fairness though, the fact that Sterling has such a promising fixture is also pushing me towards that decision...

Yes, I would bench Sess or even Fletcher... I don't think you can justify playing both of them over Fellaini, so you'll just have to stick him in and hope he scores against Citeh...

Who do you think will be more threatening given the way Norwich play, Sess or Fletcher?

Yeah I think you should bench Sess, but only just...

Thanks. I was also thinking that a City CS is slightly more likely than another Fellaini goal. Just feels wrong to drop Fellaini though. Still, as you say, it's about maximising points, which I certainly need to do. Shame my bench options are not great though. Duff (TOT), Cameron(wba) and O'Shea(nor and inj doubt). I suppose Duff always has chance of an assist and the odd goal in him.

Nice transfers IMO. I have a small dilemma in who to bring in for Mata out after WHA. Can't make up my mind between Silva and Walcott. Silva offers consistency and City coverage while Walcott explosiveness and great fixtures. Can't have both without downgrading Rafael. 🙁

Nolan's 5 goals came from easy opponents IMO

Villa Fulham, Sunderland, Soton ALL at home are poor travellers, and Newcastle away which can be explained by his extra motivation to score against his former employees...

Your comments earlier in the week brought that to my attention... he never seems to score against tough opposition at home...

Sterling has exactly the same kind of fixture that has brought him two double figure hauls...

He scored a perfectly legitimate goal against City but it was ruled out unfairly for offside.

The problem is we're dealing with FPL superstitions here. Sterling looks so PLAYABLE in this fixture because surely he will repeat that 11 point score against Southampton. The logic is same scenario = same outcome. But Nolan just happened to be playing these opponents at the time. He has proven over many seasons that he scores about every 2/3 games and has kept that record up. It's not as easy a decision as it seems imo and I fear I my judgement might be clouded by those 11 point memories for Sterling.

So I'm deciding between these 2 moves this week. Both are for free.

    A) Baines & Michu -> Enrique & Walcott
    B) Baines & Taarabt -> Nastasic & Walcott

Ultimately, my decision appears to be hinging on the importance of Enrique & Michu in the run up to the Jan W/C. If Enrique continues at left wing, he's verging on a must have given LIV's fixtures. Then again, Michu has served me very well, but he does have 3 very tough games in the next 4 (ars, NOR, tot, MUN), and if he gets booked at the w/e he'd miss the NOR game. Also, if I do B), then I'd have a benching headache most weeks. The main concerns I guess are the NOR game and the value I'd lose on selling him, if I were to want him back in the future.

So, given all this rambling, which would you say is the best option?

Leighton Baines is the death of FPL.

The whole 'never bench, never captain' and the myth around Baines really grinds my gears. I hate this idea of just always playing a bloody player for the sake of it. You can strategically be really clever with defensive transfers imo and Baines just kills this because he's on penalties. F___ Y__ L_______ B______

I've had Suarez from the start and he's done me proud, but me got a sneaky feeling this weekend is one of Liverpool's struggle to win 1-0 days.

Ba at home this week to Wigan which he could do well in....Suarez also home but would need to score 2 goals more than Ba to deliver a pts profit considering a 4 pt hit would be involved in getting him in. Also he may pick up a yellow which would rule him out the following week.

It would have been nice to have Suarez in the team but as said the finances didn't permit. I wasn't going to take multiple hits to reshape a team just to get Suarez. 70pts this week and a steady climb to 2nd place in the work league (only 7 pts down) backs up my strategy to date. My transfer this week was Baines out and Enrique in which freed up funds but I can't justify getting in Suarez for a 4 pt hit when Ba is at home to Wigan.

Hopefully he will do well but he may well get a booking ??????????

    Ming, Jask
    Enrqique, Ridg, Demel, Rafeal, Cameron
    Mata, Bale, Walcott, Mcnuff, Sess
    Augero, Fletcher, Suarez.

    A) I am thinking to keep the same team till GW 16 and
then bring in Long/ Lukaku, Nolan and Hernandez for Fletcher, Sess and Mcnuff.

    B) Another option is Nastatic, Fellani, Hernandez, Morrision from GW 17 onwards

WHAM, Wbrom, City, Swansea have good fixtures from GW 17 onwards.
Even Chelsea seem to have good fixtures from GW 18. So worth keeping Mata and see how he goes about.

Need your thoughts on the same.
