Fantasy Premier League Focus
Filed under: Fantasy Football Games - Posted by: Paul
The breakneck speed of the recent festive schedule has afforded us little time to roll out many regulars but as the schedule finally begins to ease, we take a look at the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, analysing the goings-on at the top of the Scout League and the hectic transfer activity, as winter wildcards are activated:
Scout League Standings
T.I. reclaims top spot in the Scout League after an 80 point haul in Gameweek 21. Handing Robin Van Persie the armband earned 32 points, while Edin Dzeko, Raheem Sterling, Theo Walcott, David Silva and Leighton Baines all produced. T.I. is now up to second in the overall standings on 1348 points and, intriguingly, has already activated his winter wildcard.
Kevin Travers climbs to second after racking up 72 points last time out. He also captained Van Persie at Wigan, while Silva was joined by Dimitar Berbatov and Luis Suarez in picking up the points. Kevin is eighth in the rankings, with 1330 points accrued.
Former world number one Iyad Zahlan has recovered after a temporary festive blip. Back up to third in the Scout League, he picked up 83 points in Gameweek 21, albeit with a four point hit. A front three of Van Persie, Suarez and Berbatov delivered 40 points between them, while captain Marouane Fellaini and Joey O’Brien both produced double figure hauls. Iyad move back up the ranking to 16th overall, on 1324 points.
M.P. slips down to fourth after a 59 point Gameweek 21 haul, despite handing Van Persie the armband. Rafael, Walcott and Jason Puncheon were his other main men.
Eddie McGeever completes the top five. He sits on 1319 points, level with M.P, having returned 77 points last time out. Yet another one to captain Van Persie, he also saw Suarez, Walcott, Sterling and Fellaini chip in with attacking returns and moves to 20th overall.
The performances of our top five helped Fantasy Football Scout hold onto top spot in the Best Leagues. We are 14.8 points ahead of our nearest rival, while the FFS Members league has moved up to fourth overall.
For the contributors, Mark has hit top spot for the first time this season. Nine of his XI produced for a Gameweek 21 haul of 96 points, with captain Van Persie joined by Dzeko, Berbatov, Silva, Fellaini, Walcott, O’Brien, Glen Johnson and Ryan Nelsen – he now nestles inside the top 3,000.
Market Trends
Joey O’Brien has proven the most popular pick after his 15 point haul for West Ham against Norwich. The full-back was subbed off just prior to the Canaries scoring at Upton Park and with a goal and maximum bonus also accrued , he has earned over 71,000 new owners ahead of the Hammers’ double Gameweek 23.
Elsewhere at the back, Manchester duo Pablo Zabaleta and Patrice Evra have both earned a place in 26,000 new teams. Ian Harte’s cut-price appeal has seen over 20,000 draft in the 3.8 priced Reading left-back, while Russell Martin and Kieran Gibbs have each received over 16,000 new owners. Between the sticks, Asmir Begovic (21,000), Simon Mignolet and Adam Federici (both 17,000) have picked up plenty of attention.
Midfield reinforcements have been a priority. Marouane Fellaini (71,000) and Gareth Bale (38,000) have picked up plenty transfers in after their respective suspensions, while Theo Walcott’s new forward role has persuaded over 53,000 Fantasy managers to pick him up prior to the Gunners’ double Gameweek 23. Michu’s return from a brief ankle injury has him on the radar of over 23,000 new suitors, while 17,000 have snapped up West Ham’s Mark Noble for the double.
Up top, Luis Suarez, with back-to-back doubles, leads the way for transfers in. Over 65,000 have grabbed the in-form Liverpool forward – he is some distance ahead of Robin Van Persie (38,000) and Demba Ba (34,000), with many perhaps anticipating the latter’s move to Chelsea. Rickie Lambert has been subject to 31,000 trades in – he moved up to sixth top scoring forward over the festive spell, while Dimitar Berbatov’s return to form has persuaded over 26,000 to climb aboard the Bulgarian’s bandwagon.
In terms of transfers out, Carlos Tevez (73,000) is head and shoulders above any other player. With one goal since Gameweek 12 and 14 minutes game time over the last two matches, Tevez is now back down to his original price of 9.0, having risen as high as 9.9 earlier in the season. Jermain Defoe has been sold by 44,000 Fantasy managers after producing one goal in his last six, while current Chelsea forward Fernando Torres (38,000) and possible incoming rival Demba Ba (40,000) have been sent packing by many, with Rafa Benitez’s rotation likely to be detrimental to both players’ prospects.
Yaya Toure’s upcoming African Cup of Nations duties have seen 47,000 sell on the Ivorian, while Eden Hazard continues to slip in popularity – one goal and two assists under Benitez has prompted 38,000 to call time on his services. Somewhat bizarrely, Santi Cazorla (28,000) and Kevin Nolan (25,000) have also seen significant sales, despite both bracing themselves for a double.
Similarly, Per Mertesacker (23,000) and Jussi Jaaskelainen (13,000) have been transferred out, while injuries to Petr Cech and Jose Enrique have seen them both exit over 22,000 teams.
Commenting is now closed for this post.
“I am happy with the way I’ve started, but on the other hand, I should have scored four or five more, so that’s something for me to work on.”

Another LB? Danny Rose has been class this season so not sure where this Fryers lad is going to fit in.
January 3 at 5:53 pm

Rose? Really! I’m always astonished how he gets a prem game myself, I think he’s a classic trier but simply doesn’t have the nous. I’d be more than happy to flog him to Sunderland, as I suspect Levy/AVB might.

Guess the signs point to him being sold with this signing.
I’m going off what my Mackem mates have said about him this season. Think he’s outperforming the rest of their mediocre defence.
January 3 at 6:05 pm
Frazek says:
Yes, fair enough, but you’ve probably hit the nail on the head… it’s relative.
I’ve watched him for a few years and he is never going to make a top player, and he’s 22 now, hardly a kid still learning the trade.

Didn’t look like a MOM performance to me, but there you go. I worry about QPR, really lack creativity and robustness. They can be got at by any team, and usually do. Taarabt going no where near my team, but good kuck if he arrives in yours.

He was a class above everyone else on the pitch. But he only played there because QPR played 10 men behind the ball and Taarabt can hold onto it better than anyone else when it breaks to him. I don’t think he’ll play there in games that they’ll fancy winning in.

Fellaini was underwhelming vs Newcastle, also looked like he was playing in a less advanced position but perhaps that was due to Everton trying to close the game out in the second half. Don’t like Fellaini at all he seems to accidentally trap the ball 5 yards in the wrong direction and beat defenders by pure fluke half the time. He has all the qualities of Carlton Palmer outside the box and Heskey inside it and yet still gets all the points! I’m torn between RVP and Bale as captain tbh.

Now this is a quite amazing piece of analysis. I can barely believe it has been written down.

g’evening all
have pulled the seasonal WC
finding it very hard to set up the team i envisioned prior to playing my wc ;(
the way i see it i have to isolate the MUST HAVES and then build up the rest of the 15-man squad around those players:
bale mata michu walcott
RVP suarez
which leads to the question of formation (3-4-3 vs 3-5-2)
which one is more essential assuming the above 6 are constant? : fellaini/dzeko/berba/baines
the DF n GK positions will have to be low bracket players based on schedule n rotation
cheers
January 3 at 5:59 pm
GeneralDegenerate says:
This is my first post on here after using wc I have…..
Turnbull, Begovic
Demel, Davies, Azpilicueta, Cameron, Harte
Bale, Walcott, Fellaini, Michu, Mata
RVP, Suarez, Ruiz
WC still active did have Demba and Marvuex in instead of Fellaini and ruiz but that damn Demba such an uncertainty. Also have Lambert and O’Brien in at the moment as I have to make 0.1 to upgrade O’Brien to azpilcueta. Not sure I have seen a better team on here so far but then I have thought that all year and got rubbish points. Got Robbing Van Persie too too late……
January 3 at 6:03 pm
Frazek says:
Hello GD. Personlly, I’d be ditching Turnbull, unlikely to stay in sticks long and then you have to waste a transfer. Also, I see Ruiz in quite a few teams and don’t buy it, even for price. He plays well with Berbs and will create chances but I would just find the extra dosh and have Berbs by a country mile.
I’d go four strong mids + cheaper, three strong strikers. Still, good luck with your ;plans.

Cheers Frazek, that’s pretty much the choice I could have Berbs, Fletcher, Dzeko etc. I like Turnbull atm, I did have Jass and Bego but just felt I wasn’t getting enough out of them both for the value and might regret it. Have no faith in Fellaini and never will so he’d be the switch out but I can see him at 8 mill in no time and they have good fixtures. The problem I see with the 3 – 5- 2 is if you can afford to have a half decent striker like say Ruiz over a complete throw away 3rd striker when would you play them over one of your 5 midfielders. For example next GW Walcott has Man City tough call between him and Ruiz it’s always a sickener when you have a choice and get it wrong

Playing around with potential wildcard team on Rate My Team in members area.
Its giving me a 330 for 6 week period. Is this a strong score compared to others? My team as it is now is only getting 313.72

When you click on my link am I still Pravin Shet? I have no idea how this happened as that is not my name and I am not from India. My team used to be correctly linked – has this happened to anyone else? I have hopefully re-linked successfully…

Found a way to field 5 mids with 3 forwards!!!
Mignolet (Cerny)
Evans – Baines – Wilson (O’Brien – Harte)
Bale – Mata – Walcott – Michu (Marveux)
RVP – Suarez – Berbatov
Baines is the 5th midfielder
He can’t do any worse than he has so far and that goal has to do something to his confidence. And what if he gets transferred to United…?
This team of 11 has an average of 60.7 points per game, which will give me an aggregated 2149 points without captain-points, and includes the points I’m already on…with avg. RVP bonus it’s 2270! Should do well! Especially since Berbatov and Baines have been underperforming.
In essence I’m gambling Berbatov will outscore Fellaini, and I reckon his insane form will deter.

May as well get Luiz in if you want a defender who is actually playing in midfield.
