The Numbers Game – Festive Form – Defenders

Continuing our round-up of the Christmas period, it’s time to treat our members to a series of articles which examines each of the positions and analyses the form of the key protagonists over the past four Gameweeks. We start in defence, by casting an eye over the top tens for our ICT Index, plus a more in-depth look at the main performers in terms of goal threat and creativity….

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Just about to press the WC button, before I do a final ask. Does this:

    Fed/Bunn
    Cuellar, O’Brien, ShawX, Gibbs, Nelsen
    Caz, Bale, Michu, Sterling, Maloney
    RVP, Berba, Suarez

    0.8M in bank and 1xFT

    to this:

    Turnbull/Fed
    Gibbs, Shaw, Harte, Demel, O’Brien
    Mata, Bale, Walcott, Noble, Puncheon
    RVP, Suarez, Ba

    0M in bank

    look OK? Thanks guys!

I know you're going light on defence to afford your front 3, but I'm not sure of the logic of doubling on WHU def and Shaw will concede bags in both games, and is useless long term.

I'd forget Suarez for now (3 of next 4 fixtures are horrid) and give your defence a bit of love instead. Everton's fixtures are hard to ignore at the back, and Utd seem to have their act together, plus Vidic is close to full return...

Will people be keeping Ba after the DGW?
Not sure who to go as my third striker, so 3-5-2 with Lambert might be an option longer term, now that my Aguero plan is out the window.

Afternoon gents... prepare yourselves for another ridiculously long post of the "should I or should I not WC" variety...

Weighing up the merits of WCing now against doing it later after the DGWs...I have two lines of attack for this DDGW... I might just keep it and use my FT to do Nastasic > Ivanovic/Luiz and surrender So'ton coverage completely... with the possibility of taking a hit for the right player...

    Begovic
Ivanovic/Luiz* Gibbs Cuellar (Hughes if injured)
    Michu Pienaar Walcott Mata*
    RVP Suarez Berbatov

    Then in GW23, Berbatov & Ivanovic/Luiz > Podolski & O'Brien/Demel (-4) leaving me with this...

    Begovic
    O'Brien/Demel* Gibbs* Cuellar
    Michu Pienaar Walcott* Mata
    RVP Suarez Podolski*

Then use WC to get rid of the likes of Pienaar and other dead weight...

Alternatively I could use my WC... If I do it now, I obviously want to find the balance between short term and long term success... for that reason I am considering Jaask over Turnbull since I plan to rotate him with Begovic until the end of the season...

    *denotes transfer in...

    Jaask* Begovic
    Ivanovic* Luiz* Gibbs (Demel* Cuellar)
    Bale* Walcott Mata Fellaini* (Noble*)
    RVP Lambert* Ruiz*

    Then GW23 I'll do Lambert & Ivanovic/Luiz > Podolski & 4.9-5.4m defender (-4)

Thanks to anyone who got this far... so which one looks best? Btw I will be keeping Podolski for the next 5/6 weeks after the DGW for their good fixtures...

P.S. The Noble punt is one of those flashback premonitions I had about him scoring a penalty against Arsenal... 😕

Suarez has Utd, City and Arsenal away in next four. Might be rested vs Norwich at home.

Sturridge is an unknown factor also.......don't worry about losing him too much.

WC now is the best option imo. I agree with the noble punt.....if you have him in your team, he will work well as a reliable 5th mid if you play 3-4-3

What are your thoughts on Ba? I know most on here are hyping him up but imo he’ll play 1/2. In that case, Berba might have a chance to outscore him vs WIG(H).

On the other hand, if WCing this week (yes looking at you CF) what balance of DGW players/ heavys (bale) are you putting into your team?

    Cheers.

Hey dz'ers. Hows my plan sound.

    Begovic foster
    Nelson nastasic demel cameron hughes
    Mata cazorla bale michu puncheon
    Rvp berbatov suarez

2ft this week so Nelson 》shaw which leaves me with Mata , puncheon and shaw for the 1st dgw

Then 2ft bale》nolan & hughes》lasagna or gibbs. ( also leaves money to get another dgw player for a hit) which leaves me nolan, demel , cazorla and gibbs/sagna for 2nd dgw

Then wildcard after to get bale back and set up team I know the dgw players arent the best but it is what I can work with without losing a lot of value on the players I want to keep

No , im very NOT sUre about BA

i dont even want to wildcard.

However , im in the top 1000 and the risk of not doing what
\everyone else is doing is too high.
I think Ba will play one game , and it likely to be the southampton one
However he likely to play a pert in every game , even if only as a sub.
He will be one of the first i will kick out after the double.

Maybe i coul;d still wildcard and just keep berbs hmm tricky

Hmmm, just looking at physioroom.com here. And it says Danny Rose was taken off with a hamstring injury earlier. No news on Cuellar though. I wonder is it possible the reports elsewhere muddled up the news on Rose with Cuellar?

Might be clutching at straws here but interesting that there's news on Rose but none on Cuellar.

In a normal club, for the remainder of the season, the only reason to start Torres would be a Ba injury, resting Ba in an easy cup tie, or playing a two-top formation (over Benitez' dead body).

Yeah but you're talking about two reasons he wasn't in both sides

              Drogba

              and

The Spanish team = the best team in the history of the world

Those midfielders were keeping him out of the team.

Impressive that he could still score the most goals with such little gametime. Still I think Ba and Drogba are more complete strikers.

if he was WORLD CLASS as you say, he would have played himself into those squads.

for the spanish team, remember he started off with a starting role but lost it cuz he was horrid, eventually causing cesc to play a false 9. they even tried another striker up top because torres was so horrid (and not world class)

Having been deciding between Ba & Berba in my WC for what seems like ages (less than a day), I think I'm now leaving them both out in favour of Lambert and Benteke.

Ba - inevitable rotation, at least to start with. I see him starting against sto, but then Torres being given the juicy SOT tie.
Berba - after GW24 his fixtures get very tough, and I need to use my transfers to ship out excess DGWers. Benteke has better medium term fixtures, is cheaper and offers more threat.

    Thoughts on this lot?

    SZCZESNY, TURNBULL
    LUIZ, Baines, Martin, (DEMEL), (Wilson)
    MATA, WALCOTT, Bale, Fellaini, (NOBLE)
    Rvp, LAMBERT, Benteke

There's no way on planet earth benteke offers more threat than ba or berba. He plays for villa! 😆

Haha, check the stats (Benteke > Berba)! If I knew Ba would play both in the DGW and start every week for CHE then he'd be miles ahead. Rafatation.

Err...couldn't disagree more Acqua...he offers way more threat than Berba generally. Berba plays for Fulham...who are as bad if not worse than Villa.
