The Numbers Game – Festive Form – Defenders

Continuing our round-up of the Christmas period, it’s time to treat our members to a series of articles which examines each of the positions and analyses the form of the key protagonists over the past four Gameweeks. We start in defence, by casting an eye over the top tens for our ICT Index, plus a more in-depth look at the main performers in terms of goal threat and creativity….

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Alternatively Foster and Defoe -> Turnbull and Ba for an 8pt hit surely their hauls will more than recoup the 8pts

So....it Torres starts mid week in the league cup match.....would we reckon that Ba will start vs STO and that might mean Torres will play vs SOT .

That seems to be the argument. I would argue however that Ba will still feature in the SOT game but possibly off the bench.

I know it seems crazy but I'm probably going to captain Ba and hope for the best. Going on a hunch really. He could change the game against SOT if things start off slowly.

When you put it like that, I feel I have to defend myself.

I will be blunt....I play this game for fun - there's no cash involved for me, so just plain old fun. But if the game is depressing you, I don't see much of a point in playing it. And this downhill period went for quite a few gw's mind you.

Anyways, there's something like this uefa council shit that I was a part of, if you know what I'm saying. That ends in gw19. So I had no choice but to play as well as I could till then. Towards the end, I really started picking up (read as enjoying the game agaub), and hence I continue to play even now. Otherwise I would have given up after gw19.

If Terry is out for the DGW (seems more than likely) and Mikel and Romeu are unavailable at DCM, surely Azp has a great chance of playing both games this week?

I'm deciding between Azp and Luiz, and was swaying towards Luiz due to the extra security of starts, OOP status and being on some set pieces. Now I'm not so sure due to the extra 1m....

I can get Luiz in like this - worth downgrading to Azp in order to upgrade Benteke and/or keep some cash in the bank?

        TURNBULL, (SZCZESNY)
        LUIZ, Baines, Martin, (DEMEL), (Wilson)
        MATA, WALCOTT, Bale, Fellaini, (NOBLE)
        Rvp, LAMBERT, Benteke

Ba will probably only start one game and will likely be under constant threat of rotation with Torres. The two options I mentioned above are fairly even but I stand by backing Benteke & Luiz

Suarez over Ba, maybe even Tevez too given Ba's gametime is uncertain and Aguero is out.
Dzeko is an interesting one, even with Aguero there I fancied him given Mancini doesn't like Tevez.

Ivanovic has a greater chance of scoring a goal and if terry is back and he is pushed to rb he will be even more of a threat so if price is not an issue defo ivan for me

which combo do you guys think will score more in the listed fixtures? trust me it all balances out

    A) suarez (mun, NOR) + Marveaux (nor, RDG) + luiz/ivan (sto SOT, ARS)

    B) ba (sto SOT) + lambert (EVE) + mata (ARS) + walcott (MCI) + nasty/cueller/o’brien (ars/WHU/sun, FUL/wig/QPR ars)

This might sounds like an odd question but is anyone considering Pog on their WC?

He's back in the team, has hit form with two goals in his last 2 and has dropped to 4.3 in price. His price is enabling and yet he still carries a threat with not too much risk considering he's likely to spend most of his time on your bench.

Would allow me the front 8 of:

    Cazorla, Mata, Bale, Silva, Michu
    RVP, Fletcher (or Berbatov), Pog

...and a not too rubbish defence.

    1) the general consensus here is that mata is better then hazard. I would think that hazard is more nailed on since chelski have Oscar lampard who can play in the cam role....whereas with Moses out, hazard and Marin are the only wingers.

    2) Would you do bale >>> mata for hit?

    3) would you do sterling + Suarez >> hazard + lambert for a 8 point hit??

    Thoughts?

Bertrand can play on the wing and so can Mata. Hazard can also play in the hole. Mata is more essential to Chelseas cause and Hazard is lacking a bit of form in comparison. Its obvious why Mata is the better choice.

Personally I'm not getting Mata because I don't want to sell the likes of Bale or Fellaini for a player who will inevitably get the odd rest. Just hoping Ba(c) will cover me for the DGW.

Ba could easily play only one of those games. I seriously doubt he will play both and will probably be given the tougher away trip to Stoke.

let's try this again with better formatting, which combo will score more over the course of the two weeks?

    A)
This week: suarez (mun) marveaux (nor) luiz/ivan (sto SOT)
next week: suarez (NOR) marveaux (RDG) luiz/ivan (ARS)

    B)
this week: ba (sto SOT) walcott (MCI) nasty/cueller/o'brien depending on who's fit (ars/WHU/sun)
next week: lambert (EVE) mata (ARS) nasty/cueller/o'brien depending on who's fit (FUL/wig/QPR ars)

Not sure why, but have a feeling, Walcott won't sign a new contract and will move to Utd in the summer.

Replacing one of Nani, Young or Valencia......

Why not? He's and english player and United suit that style of football. Young, Rooney, Welbeck and Walcott is essentially the England attacking lineup.

Walcott's overall play isn't great at all....Lots of raw pace and acceleration which is great for FUT, but I can see it infuriating Fergie.

He'd end up spending a lot more time on the bench, even when fit. I think he'd end up extending his contract at Arsenal eventually.

I agree that he will look to extend his contract at Arsenal eventually. However Fergie bought Young and I think he's a similar player to Walcott. Nani is also a ball runner and he did alright.

He'd do alright at United but that would throw away his ambition to be a striker. I think he'd like to stay at Arsenal if he continues to get opportunities up front.
