The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Gameweek 22 – Sunday

The Manchester clubs triumph to blaze the trail at the top of the table. Robin Van Persie delivers once again, as Patrice Evra turns provider. Over at the Emirates, Edin Dzeko finds the target once more for City, having missed from the spot. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s two attractions…

On the Up

Patrice Evra
Having provided the assist for Robin Van Persie’s opener, the Frenchman was awarded the assist for United’s second after his header found the net via a deflection from Nemanja Vidic. He’s now produced four goals and five assists and has climbed to the pinnacle of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) defender standings – given his form, he looks more than capable of finishing the season as the top scoring defender for the second year running.

Robin Van Persie
The Dutchman grabbed the opener to continue his incredible debut season at Old Trafford. Van Persie demonstrated just why over 72,000 Fantasy managers were willing to pay 14.0+ for his services heading into the weekend – he has now scored or assisted in 17 of his 19 starts for United this term and shows little sign of slowing down in his quest to become the top scoring FPL player once again.

Daniel Sturridge
Named as a substitute for today’s match, Sturridge needed just 12 minutes to open his league account for the Reds and propel himself onto Fantasy radars. Climbing off the bench after the break, he was handed the lone forward role, with Luis Suarez dropping deeper, though with Brendan Rodgers admitting the former Chelsea man is not yet 100%, he could continue as a sub as he builds up his match fitness.

Steven Gerrard
Yet again, the Liverpool skipper was amongst the points this afternoon. Gerrard’s assist for Sturridge’s goal was the seventh Gameweek in succession he has produced attacking returns – up to 119 FPL points now, he remains firmly under most radars; an ownership of under 6% highlights his differential appeal.

Edin Dzeko
A tap in today took the Bosnian’s tally to four goals in three starts – it could have been so much sweeter had he converted a first half penalty and if Tevez had taken his one-on-one opportunity later in the game. Dzeko’s start will remain under threat, with Sergio Aguero’s return to fitness giving Roberto Mancini options but his form is surely strong enough to see him retain his place and continue to offer value with a 7.4 FPL price tag.

Matija Nastasic
Having been rested/dropped for the previous two matches, the Serbian returned to the City back four who duly kept their ninth clean sheet of the season. With Vincent Kompany facing a three-match suspension following his red card (pending an appeal), Nastasic now looks well and truly nailed on with Joleon Lescott also presenting an option, although Nastasic is cheaper at 5.6 in the FPL. Kompany’s possible absence will, however, dent their clean sheet potential.

Going Down

Raheem Sterling
The teenage winger’s game time continues to be reduced by Brendan Rodgers as the Liverpool boss looks to alleviate any worries over fatigue. Hauled off on 61 minutes, Sturridge has managed 90 minutes just once in the last five Gameweeks – he had managed the full match in 14 of the previous 16, by comparison. With Sturridge’s arrival boosting the Reds forward options and Fabio Borini also back from injury, Sterling’s owners will be somewhat concerned by the recent turn of events.

Luis Suarez
One blank won’t worry his owners ahead of a home clash against Norwich but Suarez’s move to a more withdrawn role upon Sturridge’s introduction confirmed that Rodgers is looking to change his position somewhat when the former Chelsea man is on the park. With winter wildcards being wielded, Sturridge’s price of 7.3 to Suarez’s 10.4 may persuade some to take a punt on the former Chelsea man as their Liverpool attacker of choice.

Vincent Kompany
A straight red for dangerous foul play will see the City skipper serve a three-match ban, missing league matches with Fulham, QPR and the FA Cup tie with Palace. Roberto Mancini indicated post-match that he intends to push for an appeal against the dismissal, although this will risk a further one-match ban which would put his start against Liverpool on February 3 at risk. City recently decided against appealing the red card received by Samir Nasri at Norwich.

Per Mertesacker
Mertesacker’s owners will now be wary having seen their man start today’s match on the bench. The German missed two matches through illness recently but this is the first time that Arsene Wenger has appeared to prefer the Vermaelen/Koscielny partnership in the centre of his defence.

Santi Cazorla
The Spaniard’s ownership will benefit from double Gameweek investment ahead of matches with Chelsea and West Ham but Cazorla has now returned just a single assist in four league outings. With Theo Walcott outscoring him since the playmaker’s devastating hat-trick at Reading, the winger turned striker is continuing to look the more favoured option. Today was not the best scenario to judge Cazorla’s form but, clearly, his Fantasy stock is dipping as a result of his recent returns and Walcott’s potential.

Mikel Arteta
Arsenal’s other Spanish midfielder missed today’s encounter through injury. Arsene Wenger stating post-match that he expects the calf strain sustained in training to keep Artea sidelined for three weeks.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

what is everyone thinking about BA on wed.

i think is gonna start on WED.

Rafa cant risk the rage of the fans again, have to win this one.

will be same thing again, ba for 60 - 65 mins then torres will come on.

for ba or a winger. Ba might get 90 mins if he is lucky,

how can he put torres though that again or himself.

the fans were ready to have both their heads on a stick,

will be safer starting with ba going 2 nil up then bringing torres on,

will both be safe that way.

        how will that work.

they have not played 4-4-2 all season,

if he plays normal 4-2-3-1 will still not work as he would have to drop mata or haz and thats not gonna happen since they are much better options on the wing,

Just think he might try it at home against weaker opposition - Fergie always plays two up in these type of matches. Mata and Hazard could come in from wings and utilise full backs.

Just think at some point there will be a clamour to see how it goes with both playing together

You sound like ur suggesting rafa doesnt believe in torres? From what hes said he believes in torres and just thinks he needs a rest. I think torres will start for me, I see him getting progressively less game time as the stark contrast between their relative levels effectiveness becomes apparent to rafa but for now Torres will keep his place.

      Or maybe I just hope so because he's in my team decomposing ;_;

hahah no its in his contract to believe in torres he doesnt have a choice.

BIG but... he cant risk having another bad result at home, 3 in a raw might get him the sack or pitch invasion by half drunk fans,

if he brings torees on when the game is won there is no risk,

he has to win this game at home. they have not lost 3 in a raw at home ever i dont think, not in the last 10 years for sure.

So far I have taken 9 hits (9 weeks of hits that is), and used both WC's. I have had 6 green arrows from those 9 hits and WC's.

Granted my season has been poor, considering I finished 20k in only my 3rd season last year, but for those who are in the know, who say hits are bad news bears, how do you explain the fact that most of my rises have been from -8s, -12s, -4s, -8s and so on?

Ive had awful luck captaining once again.
Ive had awful luck with rotation at times.
Ive had awful luck picking and dropping players in and out of form, e.g Baines, Bale, Suarez etc.

Im hitting the rest of the way!!

I just mass text the regulars in my ML that mate. What's the point even signing up if you are going to pick a team week 1 and then not bother playing the rest of the entire season? Maybe I am bitter, because there are at least 10 part-timers in front of me who have half a team of injured players, some away in Africa, some suspended, and have luckily (or wisely) captained RVP from the start, and gained about 2m quid from him.

I personally wouldn't even bother signing up next year if I was gonna pick one team and then say sod it til the next year. Where's the fun/point?

City had Saints at home, I had Vinny, Yaya and Aguero.
Chelsea had a DGW ...TO START THE SEASON...I had Terry, Ramires and Torres (c).
Arsenal had Sunderland at home, had Vermaelen and Cazorla.

Smart money should have been on a 100 pt opening week.

You are right, but you are wrong. This game for me, is just as much about luck as it is about skill at times.

Here's the thing: hits NEVER pay for themselves. Once you pay 4 points, they're lost forever.

You've dropped scads of points. Over the course of a season, that will just kill your rank.

the dgw's rarely pay off, arsenal away to chelsea wont gain much and sure it depends on how good they do v west ham.. ill probabky end up getting in walcott somehow!!

My sarcasm was meant to show through ... the way Arse have been playing, I think that you needn't be too worried. I have Walcott, but otherwise I'm not bothered by their DGW.

Chasing the doubles can so easily end in tears.

ah yeah dont worry i knew you were messing 🙂 yep the dgw's have done me enough trouble in the past. i do have 3 hammers though.. two at the back so a clean sheet would be great v qpr. yeah walcott is the only one that looks decent but i cant get rid of mata..

Currently have Walcott, Gibbs, Jaask, Demel and Joe Cole for the DGW next week..
Definitely not getting in Podolski or Giroud.
Is Cazorla worth getting rid of Bale or Mata for on a FT ?

    Kun and Pog IN

leaving me 3-5-2 and RVP and Kun up front
