The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety Five – Rush

Rush. The best form of goalkeepers for the playground. A long-haired Canadian prog-rock outfit. A mustachioed goal sniffer and, sadly, a description of how Granville and myself had to approach this latest episode of the podcast.

With our studio slot limited, we had to skinny things up and turn this one out double-time. Nonetheless, in 26-minutes, we touched on all the regulars, whilst scattering the silence in between with the usual sniping between the pair of us. It makes you wonder what we waste the other twenty minutes on every week.

Not to worry. Enjoy what you can of this little taster and look ahead to next week’s full-fat return, when we’re planning a new feature and a new voice.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Need a little help guys, just made the hard decision of doing Ba > Podolski, so team for this GW is now:

    Begovic
    Demel, Luiz, Gibbs
Michu, Walcott (c), Mata, Bale, Fellaini
    RVP, Podolski (v)

    Subs; Bunn: Pogrebnyak, Clyne, Mariappa

All look ok? Play Clyne instead of Luiz? Correct captain choice?

    Help most appreciated.

There was a Aus/Proteas 1 day game at newlands many many years ago. I tried to google it, but I think it's so long ago decent records weren't even kept in those days or maybe it was one of those tours that wasn't "official" if you know what I mean.

Corrie van zyl and Garth le Roux i think still played for Saffers. Anyway, aussies were bowled out for feckall and a second game was organised the same evening to give tghe spectators some value for their money.

    bego bunn
    davies, demel, wilson/martin, ____, _____
    mata, bale, walcott, afro, marveaux
    rvp, aguero, _____

which looks best for the remaining 3 spots

    a) ba + clyne + pearce
    b) sturridge + dawson (or someone else 4.5 or less) + cueller
    c) lambert + zab + another big hitter probably, else i could upgrade marveaux

Mata & Sturridge I reckon. Sturridge is incredibly greedy (worse than Defoe) so I expect him to score well with Suarez and Gerrard providing the ammo.

Also, Mata is pretty nailed on, whereas Ba may have to share time with El Nino.

So have a few tough decisions to make

    Begovic (mannone)
    demel davies rafael (cueller luiz)
michu fellaini bale walcott (c) sterling
    rvp berbs ba

have 1FT and 0.8m itb. planning to WC next gw

    A: sterling + ba >> nolan + podolski.
    B: luiz + sterling >> gibbs + nolan.
    C: mannone + ba >> sczencny + podolski

Each of the choices have their merits...

A: i bring in two attacking players but my defense is a bit weak

B: my defense looks a bit weak for this gw so even though i expect pod to score more then gibbs, i expect gibbs + ba to score more then rafael + pod

C: i end up having 3ars and 1whu player which could work out well but then will have to play one of sterling or berbs

    Bego – Jussi
    Zabaleta – Gibbs – Wilkinson – Martin R – Clyne
    Mata – Bale – Walcott – Michu – Fellaini
    RVP – Ba – Pogrebnyak

Leaves me 2m for possible Ba to Suarez(at 10.5m). I know Wilkinson is injured right now, but this is after GW23. Any thoughts, concerns or advice? Thank you.

So I resisted the urge to catch the price rises in the end...

Assuming we get no news of games being called off before the deadline, best move from these 2? I'm almost certainly going to do one of them.

    A) Azpil -> Gibbs - means double ARS defence and having to bench Davies (STO), but Gibbs is nailed on (Azpil perhaps not so much) and ARS have decent fixtures for cleanies.

    B) Ba -> Podolski - more potential upside with Podolski, but how many minutes will he get, and could Ba put ARS to the sword (again). If, and it's a big if, Ba proves to be a nailed on starter every week, I'd want him back in my team....

    Szczesny, (Bunn)
    Baines, DEMEL, Davies, (Azpil), (Harte)
    Bale, WALCOTT, Mata, Fellaini, (Marveaux)
    Rvp, Ba, Lambert

If you had the choice to

    1) Double up Stoke defense (Bego + Cameron) vs WIG RDG WHM

    2) Just 1 cover (Cameron) on that fixture and have Dawson vs nor, Nelsen* vs NOR and Nelsen** vs sot as the other defender on respective weeks.

    Which one would you pick?

    * can be Onouha if he's not staying
** can be Distin v RDG but I doubt Everton will keep a clean sheet and is it worth a 1 FT?

              Nelsen Ferdinand Hill BenHaim.

No one really stands out, but with Nelsen leaving it means that 2 out of those 3 should be first choice. Hill will defintely be one.

That wicket was unplayable and if I'm not mistaken all of the Aussies were either caught behind or bowled.(one Lbw)

Just to see the saffers not having any problems.

The thing is mids goals count for more + potential CS. So id get Mata over Ba for CHE cover.

Wait and see Walcott on the weekend. It really pisses me off I couldnt fit Fellaini into WC..

Sturridge vs Suarez is on my watchlist until GW26. Rodgers said he's close to full fitness, so we'll see how they fair playing full games together.

i sold him a few weeks back to get walcott for a hit for his hatty :D. and i knew i'd want to get afro in the next week anyways til the wc. now i'm probably going without michu because he doesn't fit my budget... would screw up my wc team having him over afro and i wanna keep walcott as i recon he'll do well and plays oop at least sometimes. and i def don't wanna ship mata or bale so that leaves me with no michu

Michu is a sore point for me.

I got rid right before his double double, and now I almost feel I've missed the boat a bit.

8.3/8.4m is quite a lot for a mid-table player, and I expect his points to regress a bit in H2. If you had him from the beginning then it's a no brainer to keep, but if not, it's not an obvious pick imo.

After all that, I still may bring him back come GW26.... 😉

Do you still have either WC? 1 or 2 likely to return the 4 pts this week, but without WC soon will obviously cost transfers to 'repair' later, thogh Arse fixtures are pretty good for a while so no great harm keeping them for a few weeks, personally prefer 1, but that may be that I am a United fan in denial that Bale will 'do' us again, also depends on what you lose on Bale to swap him back.

If no WC to play any time soon, then 3 sounds sensible, I have berba and have run out of patience, only worry is that Tevez doesn;t seem to be Mankini's favourite at the minute.

Thinks Ba' gametime is pretty safe while he is in such good form. In your case reckon 3 is the go. LEave it and do it next week is an option, but don;t see anything for Berb against City, so may as well do it now.

I would be more concerned about getting the 'o' on my kepyboard fixed.

Why do people think they have to choose between two players for the same team. ie Mata OR Ba? If both players are the best options in their respective positions, then why not get them both? To me this seems a very defensive strategy.

Yeah. That is different. This post wasn't directed at you. There is just a general feeling that you should "spread the risk". I don't agree. But then that's maybe why i'm not very good at this game!

i prefer not to double unless you have a good value player (i.e. sterling) or the team is from manchester and has great fixtures, like when i doubled with rvp and valencia earlier this season. not to mention both times i've doubled this season haven't worked out too great

Spreading the risk is a perfectly sensible strategy, but by no means the only route to success. I think the big difference is that with spread risk you can more easily have in form players from out of form teams. If you concentrate your risk into multiple players from same team you have a heavier (not complete) reliance on those players' team also having good form

I just look at each player on his individual merits. I don't factor in how many other players I have from that team. Unless the decision is borderline.

Ha. Don't worry, there's been loads of people on this morning saying exactly the same thing. I know that I am in the minority on here with this thinking. Splitting the risk is probably the best (safest) way to play, but i prefer not to limit my options like that. I would hate to decide between mata and ba, if I thought that both players were the best option in their price bracket based on form and fixtures.

You're not the only one. I largely agree, and I have Mata and Ba with no current plans to lose either. I generally prefer to spread risk, but like you a try not to limit myself to that view and like to take advanage of a good run of form (budget allowing)

you'll be seeded based on your league finish. so you've got a 3 seed. it's just tricky as i have to figure out how to seed the managers that we awarded the remaining spots to.

then each group will have a 1 seed, 2 seed, 3 seed and 4 seed. it's just gunna be tough as the hope is to make sure you don't have anyone from your league in your group

yeah definitely. we'll open it up for applications again towards the end of the summer and then draft in some new managers. there will be limited space and we'll be judging the entries so you're not guaranteed a spot if you apply.

if you click follow on our site (linked in my name) you'll receive email notification of new posts which will include any posts over the summer about the new season and spots, etc.

running the site is pretty simple. administering the leagues is all automated thanks to pratik's code. the main council work this year was planning over the summer and then setting up season 2 of the leagues and now getting everything set up for the CL and europa which will be by far the most work

so i think maybe it's a bit less time than you think. except for recently it's been a lot....
tbh i dont know how i find the time. probably don't sleep enough haha. but it should get better as the council work will decrease once the CL and europa starts plus i'm a second semester senior as of today 😀

i've recently applied to several colleges and will begin in the fall (though not sure where yet as i'm waiting to hear back from most of them in march and april)
