Sunday Dugout Discussion

Filed under: Dugout Discussion - Posted by: Mark

Sunday finds us camped in front of the box, preparing for a feast of football that delivers four challengers for the Champions League places. Proceedings start at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea host the Gunners as Arsene Wenger’s side get their double Gameweek underway. United’s trip to White Hart Lane then follows, with Fantasy managers facing the unlikely prospect of watching Robin Van Persie in action without their armband on his sleeve: Theo Walcott or Santi Cazorla being the popular choices this weekend with their two fixtures at play.

Our Dugout Discussion Chatroom is now available to collect your thoughts as we sit back and wait to see if Van Persie’s unerring consistency makes us regret that particular decision.

The team news form the early afternoon kick-off is hugely significant. As suspected, Rafa Benitez chooses to rotate his forwards, bringing Fernando Torres in from the cold and resting Demba Ba to the bench. Branislav Ivanovic also makes a return to the fray after a midweek rest: he replaces David Luiz amidst claims of a slight knock.

Arsenal are without both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski through illness, so they’re unchanged from the side that took on Swansea in the midweek FA Cup replay. That sees both Abou Diaby and Francis Coquelin in central midfield, with Jack Wilshere expected to push up in support of lone striker Olivier Giroud. Captain contenders, Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla seem set to occupy the flank roles.

    With regards to Bale.

    Had him at the start of the season for 3 weeks and never again. Have made the points up elsewhere and refuse to put him back in the team…

    Koflok - like taking hits because not taking hits is too mainstream.. says:

    Just for the next 2 GWs, which one?

    a) Fellaini in GW 24-25 + Pog (bench) -> Sturridge + Marveux (as 5th mid in 3-4-3) or
    b) Fletcher in GW 24-25 -> Sturridge + Punch (as 5th mid in 3-4-3).

    Either way I’m gonna end up with my preferred front 7 in GW 26

      I expect Sturridge to be a lot more by then. Especially if he does something in his next 2 games (which I think he will).

    In Bale We Trust says:

    People are judging Bale far too quickly. I mean how much can we realistically expect when playing the league leaders, who specifically set up to nullify him. Also most of Bale’s points do seem to come away from home and he has much nice fixtures to come.

    It’s so lovely to see Fergie deflated. His arrogance taking a dent. I’m no City fan either but you just know those points dropped are going to seriously test United now and City will be feeling mighty good. Going to be a great season from here on in.

“I am happy with the way I’ve started, but on the other hand, I should have scored four or five more, so that’s something for me to work on.”

Robin Van Persie talks about his early form at United ahead of his first Manchester derby
