Monday Dugout Discussion

Filed under: Dugout Discussion - Posted by: Mark

The Gameweek rolls on with Monday night football under lights and a clash at St Mary’s made all the more spicy by last week’s shock dismissal of Nigel Adkins. The Mauricio Pochettino era at Southampton starts tonight, then, handing him a tough baptism against David Moyes’ rugged Everton outfit.

Fantasy managers will have eyes on the hat-stand attacking talents of Marouane Fellaini, with backers of Leighton Baines hoping for some set-piece joy and raids down the left. As for the Saints, Rickie Lambert will carry the burden of scoring the goals for his new boss and, with plenty holding tight after his double Gameweek success, he carries decent Fantasy interest going into tonight’s match.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom is now open to follow their fortunes for those who fancy some real-time banter.

The team news from St Mary’s finds the new manager make two changes which come as no surprise: both Rickie Lambert and Gaston Ramirez earn recalls to the starting lineup having been benched for the 2-2 draw at Chelsea. Steven Davis and Jay Rodriguez drop out to make way. As for the visitors, they make one change as Victor Anichebe gives way to Steven Naismith. The big news for the Toffees is that the live-wire Kevin Mirallas is fit enough for a return to the bench.

Fellaini are annoying me lately! Would it be good to upgrade one of them to mata or gerrard and downgrading sturridge to someone cheaper?

isacki - losing makes winning sweeter says:

Regarding Fellaini’s positioning tonight, he was unambiguously playing in the hole/striker for the first half. They were hoofing it to him but it wasn’t working today, the whole Everton team passed appallingly badly, Stoke would have been embarrassed.

In the second half Coleman came off with an injury and that forced Fellaini to play CM alongside Osman with Neville covering RB for Coleman. Anichebe came on and played in the hole.

Everton were getting pressed so badly it probably was necessary to bring Fellaini deeper in this game just to compete in midfield, until Saints tired in the second half, they made the pitch so small.

Assuming Everton have someone to play at RB next game and free up Neville to play CM, I’d expect Fellaini back in the hole. Even if they don’t, Hitzlsperger is available to play CM.

Finally, I am impressed with Saints’ pressing shutting down Everton’s generally impressive passing game. I would think twice before picking attackers against them.

Love it when BAP Chap predicts bonus points…. you always get someone (usually a cretin like Bemba) saying… “Oh, none for Lambert??”, or someone else who isn’t listed.

Ehh.. no, if he predicted some for Lambert he would have put it down!
