Everton are set for a Fifth Round FA Cup replay with Oldham later this month after a 2-2 draw at Boundary Park. Victor Anichebe continues his strong recent form, while Phil Jagielka is also amongst the goals for the Merseysiders. A much-changed Arsenal taste defeat at the hands of Blackburn after the Gunners spurn chances aplenty at the Emirates, while Robin Van Persie stresses his desire to play every game for United…

Arsenal 0 Blackburn 1
Arsene Wenger made seven changes from the side that squared up to Sunderland last weekend. In defence, the Gunners boss changed three of the back-four from the Black Cats match. Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen recovered from calf and ankle injuries respectively, while Francis Coquelin was fielded at right-back – Carl Jenkinson served a one-match suspension and Bacary Sagna remained on the bench, while Per Mertesacker was given the day off. Abou Diaby replaced Aaron Ramsey in central midfield, while Tomas Rosicky, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gervinho were given starting roles, with Jack Wilshere, Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla dropping out – Lukas Podolski was once again named amongst the subs. Wenger sent on Walcott, Cazorla and Wilshere with 20 minutes remaining but the Gunners spurned chance after chance to crash out and will have to pick themselves up before in-form Bayern roll up to the Emirates on Tuesday evening.

Oldham 2 Everton 2
David Moyes made two changes from last Sunday’s defeat at United. Sylvain Distin replaced Johnny Heitinga in central defence, while Nikica Jelavic came in for Kevin Mirallas – the Croatian’s return to the lone forward role saw Anichebe partner him up front, with Marouane Fellaini significantly shifted back to a deeper midfield role for the first half at least. Jelavic supplied the opener for Anichebe before the Nigerian (who has produced three goals and four assists in his last nine Gameweeks) made way for Mirallas after the break with a knock. Details of that injury are sketchy right now but, presumably, Anichebe is an early doubt for the Gameweek 27 trip to Norwich. With Mirallas deployed wide right for the second period, Fellaini shifted back up front to partner Jelavic. It was Mirallas who provided the assist for Phil Jagielka’s goal courtesy of a corner. Moyes also handed Bryan Oviedo a chance to impress with 11 minutes left – the Costa Rican replaced Steven Pienaar on the left, while Jelavic was subbed off for Shane Duffy minutes before the end.

The draw means we are still uncertain as to whether Arsenal’s Gameweek 29 home clash with Everton will go ahead as originally planned. If either team had won yesterday, then the game would have been due for a reschedule as the next round of the FA Cup falls on the Gameweek 29 weekend – the only certainty is that the game cannot be rescheduled for the midweek prior to Gameweek 30, as Arsenal travel to Bayern Munich on Champions League duties on March 13. It’s still up in the air, then, with the Toffees’ replay against Oldham now set to take place for Wednesday February 27, as confirmed by their official twitter feed immediately after the match. A win for Oldham at Goodison, of course, would wipe away any need for the game to be moved to another date.

In Other News
West Ham could be set to welcome back James Collins in time for next weekend’s home clash with Tottenham. The centre-half has missed the previous five Gameweeks after sustaining a hamstring injury against Sunderland early last month but, in an interview with the club’s official website, confirmed he is on course for a return:

“I feel good; I am raring to go and can’t wait to get back into training with the rest of the lads. It is looking like I can do this next week, in the lead up to the Tottenham game, and see how I go. It has been frustrating and a pain, being out injured, but sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say it is an injury and get on with it. During the match [Sunderland] I felt good and my body was fine, but I then over-stretched, which can happen, and I have just been working hard to get back ever since.”

While the Hammers were less than impressive in Collins’ absence, with a single clean sheet in five, it’s fair to say they’ve struggled defensively over the past few months now. Sam Allardyce’s troops have kept out their opponents just twice from Gameweek 12 onwards but with George McCartney still sidelined due to a knee problem and Joey O’Brien limping off in last Sunday’s loss at Villa with a leg injury, Collins’ return looks vital, given his side’s upcoming schedule. After the Spurs clash, the Hammers travel to Stoke before squaring up to United and Chelsea – currently just seven points from safety, they could well be dragged into a scrap for survival if they fail to prosper over those fixtures.

Finally, Robin Van Persie has pleaded with Sir Alex Ferguson to allow him to play in Monday night’s FA Cup tie with Reading, stressing that he has a desire to play every game for the Red Devils. The United boss is widely expected to rotate his troops for the Reading tie, preserving energies for the Premier League campaign and the second leg Champions League tie with Real Madrid. Van Persie’s statement in reports today will be met with mixed news by his Fantasy owners – while the desire to play every game will be welcomed, the thought of Van Persie being risked in Monday’s tie will provide some concern. Here’s what the Dutchman had to say…

“I have found out that when you play for Manchester United, every game is a big game… There are some extra-special matches – like when you play City or Liverpool in the Premier League and Real Madrid in the Champions League – but the so-called smaller games are important also because winning those games makes you champions. I want to play against Reading. I want to keep going, playing all of the games. You get into a rhythm. I get used to having a game every three days and when you don’t play for a week, it can take maybe 10 or 15 minutes to get your rhythm back. Personally, I love to play all of the games.”

  1. OOOOOHH what a strike from Yaya just over

  2. I'd just like to thank laudrup for taking pity on us and fielding what can only be described as his third team.

Not that Liverpool will beat it anyway*

    * Getting my mockers in early.

    1. He really is doing his bit for all us fantasy managers, isn't he?...

Must have captained Suarez himself.. ;)

      1. Coutinho (C), the man has flair :)

Today's act confirms him as a legend.

    2. whatup? no michu or davies?

      1. No michu, Davies or Williams. Monk starts at CB. One man disaster zone.

        1. Davies does start, I own him and had a double take just now...

        2. woooo. cheers isacki. have the above two. but more importantly i gots 2 suarezes, gerrard and sturridge. tho i fear for their chances of beating a doncaster z team

          1. Doncaster's fine, they just magically turn to jelly anytime they play someone in the top ten. Like mighty mighty west brom.

      2. No michu, Rangel or Williams. Monk starts at CB. One man disaster zone.

  3. why has everyone disregarded pool even if swans had a full strength i expect them to win they wont go 2 home defeats in a row and it was just a while ago when they dominated city and everyone was so excited about the double

    1. no wins against the top 10 all season might be a reason, although more likely to be their fail easy week.

  4. The not wishing an injury rule does not apply to Michael Brown right?

    1. Absolutely right. There's a guy still bitter that he never amounted to anything in the game.

    2. SW6
      • Reputation Level: Scout

Correct, or coincidentally El Hadj Diouf.

    3. I love to play him just to bury him, what a c*ckhead

    4. Michael Brown & John Terry for me.

    5. sod off

  5. Which teams got good looking prospects in terms of clean sheets in the coming weeks?

    1. Newcastle perhaps? Decent fix

      1. Yeah, thats a good shout now I look at it

    2. Cue... Next six ticker ----->

    3. Stoke, once Wilson makes his Second Coming

    4. Man Utd

  6. Glad I didnt drop any points for this DGW. Michu and Studge limited to one game, Gerrard putting up zero in the first game, no cleanies. Nightmare week

    1. Glad in hindsight. Means very little now.

    2. JWF
      • Reputation Level: Scout

Would you consider 18 points a good return from a DGW player? If so, it doesn't really matter whether they come in one or two games.

  7. Laudrup was always going to level the playing ground by benching Michu and Williams, their two best players.

    1. This would be Hindsight if you weren't saying it after it happens...

      1. If he said before it'd be foresight

      2. Well, I'd be intrigued to hear your reasoning

      3. non sequitor alert

      4. yeah my bad :| , Cpt Foresight would be much more usefull

    2. In hindsight, what would you have said in two hours time? I have some bets to make.

  8. Which front 8 is better?

    Bale, Mata, Walcott, Michu, Fellaini,

    A) RVP, Le Fondre, Suarez
    B) RVP, Le Fondre, Aguero
    C) RVP, Lambert, Sturridge
    D) RVP, Lambert, Cisse

    1. What front three is better?

      C

    2. I'm going with B) Myself Pog instead of Le Fondre tho

    3. since you r going with the power 5 i would pick one of the combos with a bench fodder in it... in this case either A or B

    4. A.

      Still...

    5. I don't believe in the bench fodder theory. Be bold and bench the right player! Laugh at the unfortunate who have to deal with injuries/surprise benchings! So I vote C.

      1. huzzah! me and you guy. screw these scaredy bitches wot can't abide the thought of losing points to their benches

    6. C if you like selection headaches, A otherwise

  9. Yaya best city coverage? other than their striker...

    1. Good Fellaini exit strategy if the blank happens.

    2. zaba

    3. Always. :-D

      *ducks*

      1. As you should! ;)

        1. :-P Best player on the team! ;-)

          1. That's debateable

      2. Nah, he's the Alex Song of FPL OH WAI-

        1. You were saying? ;-)

    4. Yaya is never the best City coverage

      1. Yes, well - you are just wrong there ... ;-)

        1. How'd that Sidwell punt work out? 8-)

          1. Very well, at the time. Thank you. :-)

    5. Yes. Get him over Bale.

      1. Now you have gone TOO FAR! :-P

      2. I have Bale...opss

  10. this muchu benching will mean loads will transfer him out even more now

    1. Yup, season keeper over here :)

    2. 8O he might plummet to 45% ownership

    3. As they should

    4. Or transfer him in if this week is anything to go by.

    5. Nope. All BLUE ...

      44 Michu, Miguel Swansea 8.4 24805 10900 -68

  11. Is Rangel on the bench?

    1. Yeah

  12. Rodgers out if pool lose today

    1. His name was in one of the three envelopes.

      1. Haha!

    2. Rogers is building a philosophy there mate.

      1. yeh, unsuccesfully

  13. Would you rather have Baines and Fellaini or Zabaleta and Lampard.

On a wildcard and have no City or Chelsea coverage....what say you?

    1. It depends if Everton have a blank in GW 29 and you have Chelsea/Arsenal cluttering up your squad too.

      1. Only have Walcott from Chelsea/Arsenal currently

        1. I've been happy with Lampard so the second option gets my vote anyway. You should be able to deal with it comfortably.

    2. Zab and lamps

    3. Zabaleta and fellaini

    4. I think I'd rather have Zabs and Fellaini for the next couple weeks. Lampard could be a great pick, but I'd like to see how rotation goes with Mikel back and all the defenders fit (Meaning Luiz might be pushed OOP)

    5. Fellaini is playing deeper atm. Lampard is a resting chance.

Go for a different mid with Baines. There are so many - Oscar is on top form if you want a chelsea player but I'd go for Kagawa or Bale

  14. Remember Swansea you don't want to play till next week, come on on Sturridge!

    1. Getting a hammering today won't be too clever, always head into Cup finals on the back of a decent result.

  15. Matalan can suck my D! Getting too big for there boots with there prices!

    1. You are three years too late ... ;-)

      1. I know. Well theres always Primark :)

    2. Yeah suck his D matalan you god damn shop

    3. there there. they're their own worst enemies.

  16. suarez > aguero -4?

      1. could captain him in round 28 when RVP is benched

    1. will you field 11 without this transfer? do you have struriddge?

    2. not for a hit

    3. if you cannot field XI yes

  17. Is de Guzman and Davies both starting?

  18. Liverpool vs Swansea: Liverpool have failed to score a single Premier League goal in their three top flight meetings with Swansea

    1. thanks for your effect on pozitivity here

  19. Expect nothing, accept everything. lesson of the day.

  20. Draw no bet, Swans are 5/1. Seems a little generous.

    1. with who ?

  21. so who to get rid of?

Jagielka (Wilson instead) - Rooney (Mirallas/Benteke instead) - Michu

was gunna keep michu but not if hes gunna be rested! :/

  22. Hey guys, who do you think is the best Newcastle defender to have? Who is most nailed on and have most attacking threat?

    Thanks! :)

    1. santon defo. Debuchy yet to shine and coloccini is defensive. Santon is good value tooo

    2. who to captain:

Walcott (AVL) - Baines (NOR) - RVP (QPR) - Sissoko (SOU) - Rooney (QPR)

      1. DIDNT MEAN TO POST THAT THERE!

    3. I'd say Saylor , nailed on starter I think , gets 2/3 goals every season ...and only 4.6

  23. who to captain:

Walcott (AVL) – Baines (NOR) – RVP (QPR) – Sissoko (SOU) – Rooney (QPR)

    1. Roonpig definitely !

      1. rooney might only come on at 1/2 time - ive got him on the bench atm :/

        1. are you on drugs!

          1. if he starts the reading game he'll have played for england and man utd 3x recently

            1. Fergie has stated he needs to play every game or otherwise he goes off the boil and looses his rythem and becomes a porker. Leave him on the bench - good luck with than one!

              1. i'll start but not captain

  24. Is the Liverpool game on tv in UK?

“I am happy with the way I’ve started, but on the other hand, I should have scored four or five more, so that’s something for me to work on.”

Robin Van Persie talks about his early form at United ahead of his first Manchester derby
