Watchlist

The Watchlist – Jonny Evans

It’s not been the most straightforward of seasons for United’s Jonny Evans. Four times the centre-half has been sidelined now, with ankle, leg, groin and hamstring problems curtailing his game time over the course of the campaign – as a result, the most he’s managed is six consecutive league starts thus far.

Nevertheless, Evans’ presence in the United back-four has been significant. The league leaders have managed one clean sheet in the 10 games without the Northern Ireland international in their first XI – with Evans in the starting line-up, they have registered five clean sheets in 16 games by comparison.

Factor in three goals, a pair of assists and nine Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points and Evans has racked up 81 points – an average of 4.8 points per game, which is exactly the same as Patrice Evra and superior to Rafael’s 4.1. Indeed, this is joint-top for regular defenders overall, equalling Jose Enrique, with the likes of Leighton Baines and Branislav Ivanovic just behind on 4.6 and 4.4 respectively.

Providing he can now remain injury-free, Evans looks set to be key to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side over the remainder of the season. Over the last few days, the United boss has lavished praise upon the centre-half and suggested Evans’ game will continue to develop with the aid of regular appearances. Ferguson hinted that a fully-fit Evans is likely to afford him the chance to alternate Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand at centre-half as United also juggle FA Cup and Champions League commitments.

“Jonny is only 25 but he’s emerged in the last year as a real top defender. His form has been fantastic. If you can get consistency off young players you are on the right track and Jonny has shown great consistency in the last year. Last season it wasn’t until Ferdinand and Evans played regularly that we got a run going.”

Considering United’s midfield have failed to step up as Fantasy options this season, investment in defence could well appeal ahead of a run of games which affords the chance to consolidate their 12 point lead at the summit. Norwich and Reading roll up to Old Trafford over the next five and with trips to QPR, West Ham and Sunderland also on their agenda, faith in their Fantasy assets could extend beyond their free-scoring frontmen.

Coming in at 5.6 in FPL and 7.5 in the Sky Sports game, Evans is significantly cheaper than Evra’s 7.3 in FPL and also sets you back less than Rafael, at 6.0. An ownership of 1% offers a real differential route into a backline that has now registered four back-to-back clean sheets with the centre-half in their ranks – an indication of just why Ferguson sees Evans’ contribution as crucial to his side’s chances of wrestling back the title from City.

Afternoon gents. My team as is for this weekend:

    Bego (Andersen)
    Dawson Rafael Pearce Zabaleta (Davies)
    Mata Bale(vc) Felliani Walcott(c) (Michu)
    RVP Pog (Suarez)

No FT left. Tempted by Suarez -> Aguero, but could easily leave this a week.

Doubts to play with rotation as I see it: RVP Rafael Dawson -> so should I do -4 to add more certainty this week, or leave it? Cheers.

Why leave it a week, when Suarez has a blank this week and Aguero has a better fixture than him the next?

@ Pepin re cisse on previous page

His record in previous seasons? His record in Germany was awesome. He was averaging 1 goal in every 4/5 shots before this season (from his last season in france to now).

His conversion rate of shots on target to goals was 50% and if he had the same conversion this year he would be sitting on 9/10 goals so far.

9 of his 19 attemps on target this season have come in his Last 6 gw's (no coincidence that this has happened since ba has left imo) so if you want to extrapolate that out for the run in he could be looking at a rather decent 8-9 goals more between now and the end of the season imo.

see link here for figures http://espnfc.com/player/_/id/101423/papiss-demba-cisse?cc=5739

re-post as the page had changed by the time I managed to post the above and didn't want all my calcs going to waste 🙁

Ps Further to this his long term avg of approx 1.5 shots on target per game played should have put him on circa 16 goals by now. Cisse is defo a sleeper (fpl prospect with low ownership who is underachieving, bit like suarez start of this year) if ever I saw one.

Coincidentally (not really) 1.5 shots on target per game over the ramaining 12 games = 18 shots on target with conversion rate 50% = 8 goals. With such a high proportion of shots on target bp's will likely not be far behind also if he does start finding the net.

Up for it if you share a similar ethos:

          1) No point in talking about potential players until GW29 deadline has passed
          2) A team packed with talent vs differentials
          3) Low maintenance
          4) Not taking it seriously

If that sounds good - send me your email add over and I'll drop you a line?

Alreet lads. How many of you guys also had the hero trio of enrique, surrez and sturridge? They helped me to look respectable again, just outside the top 30,000. Two free transfers for this week.

I was all set on swapping suarez for cisse, to allow me to get sissokho for guthrie. Now i'm not sure if I can bring myself to get rid of suarez, especially as I got him for 9.4m. Is anybody considering going forward with suarez AND sturridge? I could get cuellar or wilson in for enrique this week, to afford the sissokho switch and field 11

I'm seriously considering it right now. Was going to sell Gerrard and either Suarez OR Sturridge, but I might keep both strikers and sell Davies instead. That gets me 11 players this week (5-4-1).

I wouldn't stick with both personally, too risky. Better off spreading the risk.

Anyhow I'd go Wilson for Enrique to get in Sissoko. Cuellar not guaranteed to get straight back in the XI.

I even got Suarez at 9.4, but Sturridge looks like the player you wouls want to stick with till the end. Playing CS+cup-tied+3 million less. I'm doing Suarez--> Aguero, hence.

You always knew Suarez could score 14 pts in a match or 15 in a a GW... nothing's changed - I'd stick to the plan if you're set on Sturridge > Suarez.

    Hello all.

Do you know if there will be any postponements in Gw 29 because of the quarter finals in the FA cup?

City are playing against Wigan and Aguero is tempting now instead of Suarez. If he does not have a game in gw29 I was thinking about a cheeky punt on Papiss Cissé.

I'd stick and hope they get a start. Taking hits on defenders means you're banking on a clean sheet to happen pretty much. If it doesn't (likely not to), you've lost points rather than gained.

I don't think we know, possibly rested, but the full back positions may be rejigged if and when Wilson is back.

I will be sweating on him (and O'Brien) playing in order for me to field 11, but can't spend any transfers as I'll have to have a hit to get rid of DGWers.

Only 2 that will definitely be moved are the first 2 as Chelsea (if they beat Boro) and Arsenal (if Everton beat Oldham) have European games that midweek. All the others could just be moved to midweek - although no guarantee

after scoring 120 pts this week without a hit i'm now faced with the reality of only scoring 30 ish this week (after a hit)

suppose thats why GW26 was never really a DGW.

    still, 120 pts! lol

Sooo...City will probably not miss gw 29...so who is the better bet for the next few weeks.

    Papiss Cissé (SOU,swa,STK,wig)

    OR

    Kun Aguero (CHE,avl,WIG,eve)

My head says Kun...but that little demon inside me who loves to take chances says Papiss!!

    God damnn
