Versus – Daniel Sturridge & Luis Suarez

With Liverpool facing a blank Gameweek this time round, sales of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are picking up pace. The Uruguayan has so far seen over 73,000 owners part company, while Sturridge has been moved on by 38,000+, despite a strong set of fixtures to follow. Indeed, with an upcoming schedule that pits Brendan Rodgers’ side against four of the current bottom six in their next six fixtures from Gameweek 28 onwards (wig, TOT, sou, avl, WHM, rea), we analyse the performances of the pair since Sturridge’s arrival from Chelsea last month:

Last thing before I go// some of Balotelli's tweets!

"Liverpool XI: Irrelevant; Irrelevant, Irrelevant, Irrelevant, Irrelevant; Irrelevant, Irrelevant, Irrelevant; Irrelevant, Suarez, Irrelevant"

"#BestFootballChants He's Bald, he's Red, he sleeps in Fergie's bed, Howard Webb. Howard Webb!"

As a Newcastle fan I believe (and sincerely hope) we're going to be a better team for the rest of the season than we have been so far, but the groundswell of support for our defence is surprising me. Ok, the fixtures are inviting but I'd be much more inclined to invest in the attacking side of the team than the defence.

Question (cheat if you want but where's the fun in that?) How many clean sheets have Newcastle kept in their 26 league games so far?

There was, we're definitely in better shape than previously now we have our first choice defence available and a better midfield, it just feels a bit punty. I suppose it's the number of people I've seen making the move which surprises me.

Nice, I remember reading that at the time - was inspired by Baines wasn't it?

Perhaps, I've definitely noticed a trend over the last week or so of Santon or Debuchy questions though.

Yep, although Everton have conceded fewer which (rightly or wrongly) makes me feel they're closer to clean sheet potential.

I'm not really trying to persuade people not to make the move and I do get the logic, I'm just surprised at the popularity of our defence all of a sudden.

I hope it works out 🙂

and i would rather have Norwich defensive cover rather than Newcastle from gw29 onwards. don't get this Toon defensive love at all. Norwich has good fixtures and have shown they can keep cs as well. but like you said Toon attack is really tempting to overlook.

I think that tips over the edge, yeah. I don't mean castration, just make it impossible for them to procreate. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. A harsher punishment should reduce crime.

The more I think about it, the less I get this Newcastle defence bandwagon.

Their defensive record over the last 6 aren't encouraging and the stats don't help either.

Only four teams have conceded more big chances over the last 6 and they're in the bottom half of the table when you look at shots conceded in the box over the last 6.

What exactly are people expecting? A miracle turnaround?

I was looknig at this a couple of weeks ago. You get some lovely rotation with MCY, LIV, SWA and NOR, but I've since changed my mind.

For 1 m less you can get a Reading defender who has a similar spread of fixture (very similar in fact). It just seems cazy to punt that extra million for no guaranteed improvement.

I think there's a chance he could be benched. If not, he's likely to get subbed off before 75 anyway IMO. Giroud will surely start, then it could easily be 1 of Gervinho/Ox on the other side to Walcott. I wouldn't risk it.

You've got XI starters then? I'd swap demel if anyone, he's stinking your team up. Better still save the transfer and have two next week.

*power 5 include Michu? In that case then I'd swap GJ for Evans or Rafael.

Well I would have suggested Debuchy but this doesn't seem to be the right page to big up newcastle defenders 😉

Good to go, Demel is an obvious problem, but not worth a hit. I'm going to be captaining Walcott I think, but there's very little in it between Walcott, RVP and Bale.

Danny Dyer's latest film takes £602 at the box office in it's opening weekend. It's just a shame we'll have to wait a year until the next Academy Awards.
