Fantasy Premier League Focus

Filed under: Fantasy Football Games - Posted by: Paul

After one long, drawn-out Gameweek we’re finally edging towards the weekend’s deadline. Before we get there, we take our regular look at the Scout League standings and analyse the transfer trends, with a certain Tottenham wide man proving the most popular acquisition so far:

Scout League Standings

Kelvin Travers remains at the Scout League summit after racking up 99 points in Gameweek 26. He opted for just three players from Liverpool and Swansea, with captain Luis Suarez, Michu and Ben Davies picking up 49 points between them, while Robin Van Persie, Rickie Lambert, Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale all produced the goods. Kelvin now has 1753 points and has moved to first in the overall standings.

In joint-second spot sits Dan Jones, thanks to a 113 point haul last time out. He went with four players for the double, with captain Daniel Sturridge, Steven Gerrard, Michu and Jose Enrique picking up 65 points between them. Van Persie, Lambert and Walcott all boosted his tally, as did Cesar Azpilicueta and Wojciech Szczesny, as Dan moved up to sixth overall on 1726 points. Intriguingly, he still has a wildcard in hand, too.

Nicolas Boutar moves up the rankings after producing 100 points in the previous Gameweek. He chose a trio of players for the double, with captain Suarez, Sturridge and Michu providing 58 points, while Lambert, Bale, Walcott and Szczesny are chipped in as Nicolas ended the Gameweek on 1726 points, joint-sixth overall – similar to Dan, he also has a wildcard left to wield.

Sitting in fourth spot in the Scout League is Paul van de Kerkhof after he picked up 120 points in Gameweek 26. His decision to pick four players for the double paid off, with captain Suarez, Sturridge, Michu and Enrique registering 77 points between them. Bale, Walcott, Van Persie and Rafael all helped Paul climb to eighth overall, on 1722 points – Paul also has a wildcard left.

Finally, T.I. completes the top five after an 84 point Gameweek. He went with three Liverpool players for the double, with captain Suarez helped by Sturridge and Steve Gerrard in picking up 48 points, while Bale, Walcott, Jason Puncheon and Joe Cole all produced attacking returns from midfield. T.I. sits in eleventh position overall, on 1720 points.

Thanks to the endeavours of our top five, the Fantasy Football Scout league remains top of the Best Leagues. We now have a lead of 10.6 points over our nearest rival, which remains the FFS Members league – Julian Zipparo leads the way there on 1751 points, which is second in the overall standings. Julian chose just two players with a double – captain Sturridge and Michu – while Van Persie, Lambert, Bale and Szczesny, in addition to Russell Martin and Patrice Evra helped him rack up 96 points last week.

For contributors, Mark remains on top after an 84 point return last time round. Captain Sturridge, Michu and Ben Davies were his three double Gameweek players, while Van Persie, Robert Huth, Edin Dzeko and Mark Bunn all produced to keep Mark inside the top 1,000 on 1618 points.

Market Trends

Gareth Bale’s recent scoring exploits have made the Tottenham midfielder the number one target for Fantasy managers heading into this weekend’s deadline. The Welshman has earned over 121,000 new owners after notching back-to-back double figure returns and has risen from 9.8 to 10.1 ahead of a trip to West Ham. Moussa Sissoko has been welcomed into over 53,000 new teams, having scored or assisted in each of his three appearances for Newcastle, while Jason Puncheon, Theo Walcott and Marouane Fellaini have all been drafted in by over 29,000 managers.

Up top, Rickie Lambert’s rise to third in the forward standings has had a significant effect. The Southampton striker has been acquired by 77,000+, more than double the next most popular forward, Christian Benteke, with 35,000 transfers in. Edin Dzeko’s mid-price appeal has persuaded 23,000 to take the plunge, while Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney have been snapped up by a combined 34,000 ahead of United’s trip to QPR; Rooney’s 15,000 new owners will be kicking themselves after reports suggest he is unlikely to feature in that one. Indeed, a similar amount have invested in Arsenal duo Lukas Podolski (19,000) and Olivier Giroud (17,000) as Arsenal prepare to welcome strugglers Villa to the Emirates.

At the back, investment has been less frantic overall. Seb Bassong, with 18,000 transfers in, leads the way over United full-backs Rafael and Patrice Evra, with 17,000 and 14,000 respectively, while cut-price options such as Ian Harte, Nathaniel Clyne and Michael Turner have all earned around 12,000 new owners. Between the sticks, Simon Mignolet has been far and away the most popular keeper – the Sunderland keeper has earned 11,000 transfers in.

For transfers out, the double Gameweek 26 protagonists lead the way in light of their upcoming blank. Liverpool players, in particular, have seen significant sales – Steven Gerrard has shed more than 85,000 owners, Luis Suarez has been sold by more than 79,000, while Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge have both been shown the door by over 41,000 managers. Swansea trio Michu (38,000), Jonathan de Guzman (27,000) and Ben Davies (23,000) have also been sold on by plenty.

Elsewhere, the rotation issues up front up Chelsea and City continue to frustrate. Demba Ba has been shifted by over 44,000, while 38,000 have had enough of Carlos Tevez. Somewhat surprisingly, top scoring midfielder Juan Mata has earned over 24,000 sales – the result of Rafa Benitez’s decision to bench his compatriot for the 4-1 home win over Wigan.

  1. No Rooney for QPR?

    *switches armband to Persie

    1. Now switch it to Walcott.

      1. Now back to Van Persie.

        1. And now Bale

    2. Don't see how it increases his appeal.

      1. Points hog.

      2. I tend to agree, will still be very difficult for QPR but believe me Redknapp will be over the moon he is not playing.

    3. Chicarito

    4. Yep, RVP tends to shine more when Rooney-less. Tempted.

Between RVP, Bale or Walcott... Not a bad position to be in. ;-)

      1. lets hope all three do well, as the rest of my team looks shocking this gameweek.

  2. For this gameweek:

Mignolet (wba) or Bunn (EVE) ???

    1. Wilkinson is a right-back. ONe would assume that Wilson returning would just push him back to his natural position, or is Cameron more nailed on at RB?

      1. fail...

      2. Cameron's aight, Wilkinson's rubbish.

  3. Do you know any good movies like Shutter Island, Inception....?

    1. imdb.com

      1. Both of those movies are terrible... Are you joking?

      1. Not that I condone priacy'donloading movies - but this site has good links to imdb for you to have a quick read. :)

            1. NP, just don't tell all your friends about it.

    2. Is this guy some sort of Di Caprio fanboy?

      1. I'm not but i like that type of movie

    3. Memento and Minority Report.

      1. Will check Minority Report now....
        Memento made me fall asleep

        1. Minority Report sounds great, watching it now :)

    4. Are you looking for Di Caprio movies in particular? Aviator, Titanic, Blood Diamond are all great movies.

If you are asking for movies in general, ask for a particular theme? (Thriller, Crime, Legal etc)

      1. I like the movies make you think a lot to understant them.

    5. I still know what you did last summer.

    6. Two completely different movies so, yeah loads. Like you are asking for good films or just sci-fi? - 2001, Sunshine, Blade Runner are three of my favourites

    7. Any Christoper Nolan movie... The Prestige, Memento...

    8. Source Code, Looper...

      1. Source Code is good, i watched it.
        Looper? marked.

        1. SC was ok.

  4. People are reading a bit to much into the fact that RVPs returns are diminished when Rooney plays. Every game is different, also worth noting Van Persies returns in his last game, with Rooney also playing.

    1. Guaranteed pens with Rooney out, adding to his appeal.

      1. He's on pens anyway at the moment

        1. We don't know this for sure till they get one with both on the pitch.

          1. I thought Fergie had taken Roon off pens.

          2. We do know this for sure as both Rooney and SAF have said it.

  5. Would you do C.Cole -> Pappiss for -4?

    1. Absolutely

  6. In choosing between 3-5-2 and 3-4-3 for the remainder of the season, appears my choice boils down to Gerrard or Lambert. Who, in your opinion, will score more across the 12 GWs?

  7. Utd wont be scoring more than one this weekend

    1. Cheers. I'll sell RVP.

    2. If it's RvP then I'd gladly take the 9 pts x 2

  8. Competition time

For a £5 free bet, tell me the 3 highest scoring players in GW27 (in order)

    1. Ronny Rozenthal
      Cyril Regis
      Mark Robins

    2. *gets the delorean out

      1. lol

    3. Bale Walcott and Nani

      1. Nani is still awful and won't even start...

    4. Kone
      RVP
      Bale

      In that order

    5. walcott
      rvp
      aguero

  9. Best Harlem Shake....
    http://youtu.be/RGJ5rw1DS5g

dunno why it's still allowed on Youtube

  10. Sczesny or Bunn?

    1. Sir Ches

    2. To play this weekend? Sir Chesney.

      1. Yep, cheers!

    1. Link is blocked at work, can't be a good sign ;)

      1. Really? got it from google images, just a gossip site I think!

    2. Is that Ballo in drag?

    3. he seems happy now, good for him

  11. A: suarez >> augero
B: GJ + suarez >> santon/sagna/wilson + augero for a 2 point hit (will allow me to field 11 players)
    C; GJ + suarez >> baines + giroud

    dilemma’s:
    - I need to bring in a defender to play for me this week and next gw as it will allow me to save an FT
    - I am leading my monthly ML by 15 points so making an extra emphasis to do well this gw
    - Not sure which striker to get…my other strikers are rvp and sturridge

I like the look of C, agreed it will give me grief in gw29, but it will really boost me for this gw and I might win my monthly ML. Also, if I save my FT next week, I can use 2 in gw28 to get them out

    1. I've done B myself. So it's obviously the right move.

Giroud absent from the CL would give me cause for worry for C.

Personally I think a front 3 of RVP, Aguero, and Sturridge is ideal going forward.

  12. Better option:

A: Rooney, Dea Gea, Cuellar, M. Turner
    B. Rooney, Begovic, Evans, M. Turner
    C. Aguero, Dea Gea, Cuellar, Evans

  13. Gameweek 29, now also Wigan - West Ham missing?

    1. as of now, yes

      West Ham - Man U

      Man City - Wigan

  14. Football league ratifies Swindon takeover, ssn.

  15. My ladies walk to work this am, she leaves the house at 5 am.

"A man is in police custody after more than a dozen shots were fired during a standoff near E. 12th Ave. and Grant St. early Thursday morning.

Denver police say the shooter was on a balcony, firing shots down 12th Ave. They warned people to stay out of the area or stay inside their homes.

"The bullet doesn't have a name on it," said Lt. Matt Murray. "It just goes which way it's going."

A SWAT team arrived just after 2 a.m. and police blocked streets for several blocks around the area.

"The Gotham" building at 1190 Grant St. was evacuated.

Police confirm they released a chemical agent into the building, but said the gunman continued to fire shots, before surrendering at approximately 6 a.m.

    There are no injuries reported.

    WTF!?!

      1. just more gun violece in the states, carry on

  16. Which one would you bench this gw?
    Clyne, Dawson, Azp, Zaba

    1. Rafa will take care of that 1 for you

  17. Newcastle, Krul, Simpson, MBiwia, Colloccini, Haidara, Anita, Cabaye, Sissoko, Marveux, Sh Ameobi Cisse.ssn

    1. sissoko - guaranteed to get injured

    2. Go on Marvs, make yourself undroppable for the w/e....

  18. how nailed on is S Taylor fr Newcastle @ 4.6 m??!!!!
    fixtures seem very appealing.......

  19. best midfeilder for 7.7m or under for this game week?

    1. Fellaini (nor)
      Lennon (whu)
      Arteta (VIL)
      Pienaar (nor)
