The Stock Check – Saturday

An instantly forgettable Saturday saw the majority of Fantasy managers scratching for points, as clean sheets crumbled and captain options faltered. Here’s the Stock Check on a day of slight returns…

On the Up

Santi Cazorla
The consistent form of Theo Walcott has, understandably, seen Santi Cazorla drift down the Fantasy pecking order and, for a player once at the forefront of Arsenal’s attacking potential, the Spaniard has now become an effective differential. A brace today won the game for the Gunners and took him to 11 for the season, keeping him above Walcott in the overall Fantasy Premier League (FPL) rankings.

Rafael
Sticking to the script, with Jonny Evans dropped to the bench, Rafael stepped up his claim as the weapon of choice in the United backline with a stunning third goal of the season. Despite being rested back in Gameweek 24, Rafael’s claims are strong, although, like all United assets, the Brazilian looks vulnerable for the Gameweek 28 home clash with Norwich ahead of the Champions League second leg with Madrid.

Arouna Kone
The Ivory Coast international took little time to underline his importance to the Latics cause with two first half strikes – taking him to eight goals for the season. Selected as one of our three differentials this week, sadly for Kone, competition in his price bracket remains fierce, with Romelu Lukaku, Dimitar Berabtov, Rickie Lambert and Christian Benteke all offering value with their sub 7.0 price tags.

Dimitar Berbatov
The Bulgarian continues to do just enough to keep his points tally ticking over: a ninth goal of the season today was his third in six to offer a reminder that, if Martin Jol’s side can somehow rediscover some form, Berbatov remains a rare talent worthy of consideration.

Sascha Riether
On the Scout Picks bench this week, the German returned an assist, clean sheet and is likely to earn bonus points from today’s 1-0 win. Riether has enjoyed an outstanding season and has now contributed four assists this term, whilst Martin Jol’s defence have conceded just twice in the last four league outings.

Romelu Lukaku
The Belgian justified his Scout Pick selection with a brace, taking him to 12 goals for the season. Once again, Lukaku looked an unstoppable force at times and the fact that Steve Clarke paired him with Shane Long from the start provided some encouragement. Lukaku is, however, ineligible for the Gameweek 28 fixture with parent club Chelsea.

Marc Wilson
While the Potters defence conceded for the ninth consecutive league outing, the return of Marc Wilson at left-back at least gives those still holding Stoke’s defensive assets an obvious escape route. At 3.9, Wilson looks set to be a hugely popular acquisition for those downgrading the likes of Asmir Begovic and Ryan Shawcross, after a string of disappointing Gameweeks over the past two months.

Going Down

Jonny Evans
Rio Ferdinand’s recall at Loftus Road was far from a surprise but, with Sir Alex Ferguson previously talking up the need to preserve Nemanja Vidic, it was a real surprise to see the Serbian maintain his starting role at QPR at the expense of Jonny Evans. With the rotation of Ferdinand and Vidic looking a likely trend, Evans had seemed nailed on for a run of starts: today’s teamsheet confirmed that as far from certain.

Robin Van Persie
The Dutchman provided the assist for Rafael’s opener at the Bush but the Dutchman’s contribution was cut short by a hip injury sustained in a collision with cameramen on setting up the goal. Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t seem too concerned post-match, although there are big question marks over Van Persie’s start in the Old Trafford clash with Norwich next weekend, regardless of the injury.

Lukas Podolski
Benched for the third consecutive league outing, memories of the 17-point haul in double Gameweek 23 now seem distant as the German struggles to maintain his start in Wenger’s lineup.

The Everton Defence
David Moyes’ side remain unable to see out matches and, having looked in command at Carrow Road, conceded two second half goals to lose the points. They’ve now gone four without a shutout with just four for the season in total, as Leighton Baines’ owners were left clinging to the comfort of the assist for Leon Osman’s opener.

Alex Pearce
Having looked to be a viable budget option in the Royals back four, Pearce was relegated to the bench by Brian McDermott and Sean Morrison earned a recall to the defence. Given the performance by the Reading defence, however, you have to wonder if Pearce will earn a recall soon enough.

Pavel Pogrebnyak
A miserable day for the Royals was compounded by a straight red card for the Russian who earned an early bath for a reckless challenge on Maynor Figueroa. Pogrebnyak will miss three league outings against Everton, Villa and United.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Do the Sturridge loan GW28 vs Wigan and GW29 vs Spurs. That way you negotiate GW29 and have two playing although you can't be too enthused about the fixture. Liverpool could absolutely explode against Wigan too. They have been hot. Then GW30 get RVP back for the golden boot chase at a discounted price, well hopefully.

Table Tennis IS the greatest game in the world...

I love it so much... it brings me nothing but pure joy when I play it... there is just so much you can do... it has the best rallies ever, and when you get pretty good at it (which I am), and play against other good players, you feel like a king...

Ah fair enough... it is quite tough to find an original idea though...

Maybe focus on something that you have a vested interest in... In my experience, it adds more energy to the piece when it comes from a place within you, rather than just something that is out there... even if the topic has less resources, it will still come across as a more rounded piece...

Only my opinion of course... Good luck...

Suarez for Aguero (pending status on tomorrow's game) or Suarez for Sturridge? I want Suarez to increase my captaincy selection potential and I have 5.4 in the bank. Unfortunately, I can't wait until midweek to make this transfer. If Aguero does well and I feel like keeping him, that brings a dilemma GW29, but if I swap Aguero for Suarez that brings two Liverpool attackers for GW29 and I can swap Sturridge for RVP GW30. Thoughts?

Aguero to Suarez or Sturridge to Suarez. Sorry DZ

      Current team is
      Bunn-Mign
      Cueller-Davies-Clichy-Harte-Wilson
      Sissoko-Taarabt-Walcott-Lampard-Bale
      Aguero-Benteke-Sturridge

      1FT 5.4 in the bank

Regardless of fixtures, Suaz would be a permanent fixture in my team right now. If you are all set for Aguero, then Studge becomes your next best option.

Personally, Ag hasn't fired this season and I'm not yet convinced. Hard to overlook a front line of RVP/L'chop/Suaz imo.

Looking at my team for next gw,

    Ddg(NOR) ---- bunn
Baines (RDG) Davies (NEW) cueller (FUL) --- onouha Harte
Michu(NEW) fellaini (RDG) bale (ARS) Wally (spur) ----- Maloney
Rvp (NOR) grioud (spur) sturridge (Wigan)

Team looks...thinking of saving FT and do grioud + fellaini >> sissoko + augero for gw29 if city game goes ahead.

        Bale Mata Walcott Sissoko Puncheon

        Sturridge Lambert

And RVP on the bench. Hope someone can convince me i should play robin ahead any of those.

My ML rival didnt take a hit, fielding 11 with fillers. Now he's looking at a sub-30 score by yhe end of the gameweek.

I took -8 and fairly confident with at least 40 pts. Sometimes those "filler" players are as worthless as a non playing player, then hits can be useful.

Then again i dont know what im talking about. But another lead extension in myML! 😀

It's only rubbish if you're in the crowd & it still was a good fight. Undercard etc was great so they got their monies worth.

I wish there was a League vs. League Cup.

So basically you pick 1 coach from each league, and they choose their 15 or so players from their league (any team) to compete against teams from other leagues.

    i.e. Fergie vs Mourinho.

Fergie would have RVP, Mata, Bale, etc. all in the same team, and Mourinho would have Ronaldo, Messi, and Falcao all in the same side 😯

Maybe to make it less biased, two players max from each club.

Would be more of an individual spectacle rather than a team sport but a mouth watering thought nonetheless 🙂

Which club would win? I actually think EPL would have a decent shot.

If they could add a competative edge....i.e a trophy, big prize money etc..... then it would be awesome to watch these games. But the clubs would never allow it to happen.

Imagine if Ronaldo or Bale broke their leg playing in the game. There would be hell to pay

Cos he's cheap and plays pretty much every game. Plus he has a few strikes to his name this season so will give you a run for your money.

No way anyone could have predicted he would get sent off for a clumsy centre forwards challenge. He has no priors with this kind of thing.

Pretty obvious choice really if you're going down the 3-5-2 route

Movies that are amazing that maybe most haven't seen.

    1) Oldboy- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364569/?ref_=sr_1

    2) City of God- http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0317248/

    3) Road to Perdition - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0257044/

I have more if people are interested.

I never get tired of talking about movies...

Perhaps lesser known, but I always enjoy The Machinist.. if you enjoy psychological thrillers like Stir of Echoes, Shutter Island or Memento then you'd like this....

Christian Bale really gets into character for this one... so much so that he went on a crazy diet to get very skinny for the role...
