The Stock Check – Sunday

Joe Hart palms away a spot-kick to leave it to Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez to seal the points at the other end, as City see off Chelsea at the Etihad. Up in the North East meanwhile, Newcastle power past the Saints with Moussa Sissoko and Papiss Cisse delivering on their promise. Here’s the Stock Check from Sunday’s league action…

On the Up

Moussa Sissoko
The Frenchman pulled the Magpies level to return his third goal in just four league appearances since his arrival on Tyneside. Indeed, Sissoko has returned points in every one of this league starts – form and consistency that now push him well into the reckoning for a spot in our midfield five.

Papiss Cisse
Another of our differentials who delivered, Cisse’s sublime strike earned the Senegal striker his sixth of the season, his fourth goal in his last nine league outings. While that kind of output is hardly a cause for scramble to acquire the Magpies hitman, there’s no doubt that he is set to benefit from Newcastle’s improved form and, for those who are overlooking Sissoko in midfield, Cisse is presenting a worthy option up top over a decent run-in for Alan Pardew’s men.

Rickie Lambert
On the losing side but, once again, Lambert’s form impressed as he came away with goal and assist returns. Incredibly, Lambert has now scored in six of his last seven away games with the Saints. Such form has seen his budget price edge ever higher but, even at 6.8, Lambert is providing strong value for his investors. With QPR and Norwich up next, his popularity is surely set to increase further.

David Silva
A pair of assists brought the City playmaker back on the Fantasy radar – although these were his first in his last five league outings. While Sergio Aguero struggles to justify his price tag up front, Silva is at least ticking away as a midfield asset but has still not yet done enough to lift him beyond the status of a differential.

Yaya Toure
Could Yaya emerge as a viable alternative to cover City’s attacking potential? The move to a 4-5-1 system offered some encouragement that the Ivorian could yet be given the freedom to join the attack; his well taken opener serving as a reminder of his qualities.

Carlos Tevez
Introduced early in the second half, the Argentine’s industry earned him a late opening which he took with familiar aplomb to seal the points for City. It remains to be seen if Tevez can force his way back into the City lineup given today’s experiment with 4-5-1 but it certainly seems as though he has shifted ahead of Edin Dzeko in the pecking order.

Going Down

Cesar Azpilicueta
Rested to the bench at Newcastle, dropped to the bench again today, it seems that the Spaniard’s status in the Chelsea lineup is now very much in question. After showing strong form, he had looked assured for the right-back role with Branislav Ivanovic left to compete for one of the centre-back roles. However, today’s teamsheeet confirmed the worst: that Ivanovic will also compete for the right-back role, denting Azpilicueta’s security of start.

Jason Puncheon
Surprisingly dropped to the bench to make way for the return of skipper Adam Lallana, after offering good value for his budget price tag as a fifth midfielder, Puncheon is another to come out of the is weekend suddenly looking at risk.

Edin Dzeko
Despite scoring in five of his last seven league outings, Dzeko found himself back on the bench today, only to watch Tevez take to the field in the second half to strike a stunning second goal. Dzeko’s chances of a recall look bleak and, if Mancini works more with the 4-5-1, his role looks set to be reduced to a mere cameo once again.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

5.3 from my sale of Suarez and purchase of Lukaku. I'm planning on beefing up my defense at some point, and I'm looking at Silva/Hazard/Nani for Fellaini at some point. Of course if I pick up Suarez for RVP I'm going to have about 8 million.

1 pt behind after hits and we both have Bale to come. I have Bale as captain, he captained Walcott.

He may also have some bonus points from Sissoko to come.

I need a Bale goal or assist really to be sure. If we end up level on points I will go through.

We don't know if de Guzman was on penalties. De Guzman only joined Swansea at the start of the season which means they have not had a penalty since he has arrived. 3-0 up and Bradford down to 10 men, I think de Guzman was greedy, OK he won the pealty but you should give your 'friend' a chance to be the first ever player to get a hat-rick in the League Cup final.

De Guzman is the main peno taker, was confirmed on the tv. I understand the point, but Dyer isnt even a starter guaranteed starter for Swansea, he has no place demanding to take the penalty just because he had scored before. The manager has chosen De Guzman to take the penalty and its his role to give away, not Dyers to petulantly take.

Just been thinking a bit more and have decided it's best to keep RVP and sort out my defence, as originally planned. I have a very nice attack with him benched anyway, and the blank gw29 means a future dgw (genius). No need to waste 2 transfers on a merry-go-round that will probably yield no more points anyway.

might as well take the bet in case you get it but i wouldn't be so confident. wouldn't be surprised to see reading beat everton. and united lost to norwich already this season... should still win but remember it's likely fergie will be playing second string guys and resting rvp etc. and i recon sunderland vs fulham could go either way as well.

      not a bad bet though

Need some serious help with this team. On 20 points this week!!

Here is how i am currently lined up for next week:

    Begovic
    Zabaleta, Evans, Davies
    Mata, Michu, Bale, Walcott, Fellaini
    RVP, Sturridge

    Bunn, Cameron, Pearce, Pogrebnyak

    0.9m in the bank.

    2 free transfers.

I am thinking that Evans may play as Ferguson might want to save Vidic for the Real Madrid game. That being said, there is Smalling!!

No suspension yet but he's only two bookings shy of a two-match. He's got to get to the second Sunday in April without earning them.

      Good starting line up
No JEvans isn't too bad as doubling on Stoke could work

I'd use 1ft possibly to lose Pog, but not sure who you could then afford?

I could Anichebe in for Pog. Then he could come on as my sub if RVP does not play. Everton are against Reading at home after all.

Will the midweek FA Cup games trigger definite decisions and/or rescheduling of the GW 29 madness? Or are we stuck waiting for the FA and clubs to sort their collective lives out? I know the midweek FA Cup games will determine who isn't playing in 2 weekends time, but will they be playing the same GW, the week after, on the moon...?

I am probably living in crazy rainbow dreamland, but it would be nice to have something definite before next week's deadline. I am considering a mass sell-off of United, but holding fire for now...

Yes, if Everton win, then their match with Arsenal will definitely be postponed due to Arsenal's CL match.

If Chelsea win, their match, and Man Utd's match, will both be postponed definitely, due to Chelsea's Europa League match.

Thanks, but that wasn't what I was asking at all. This is extra ironic, as you were asking about GW 29 a few days ago, and I replied to you 😀

The rescheduling is what I was getting at.

Same, I still have Davies too but I'll probably sell after the next 2. Fixtures aren't the best from then to the end of the season

Why are you all talking about selling RVP?

He probably will be fit for next weekend, it is just bruising.

He MAY have a blank the week after, but then he'd a DGW coming up.

He will probably be fit for next week but with Real in midweek I would imagine he and many others will be rested.

Because he'll be on the bench next w/e even if fit.

because he will more than likely be rested, and the chance of blank is off putting. then they'd buy him back for a dgw. with all that being said, i'm still keeping

The people without a strong front 8 are almost being forced to sell and it makes sense really.

When and what channel are the league cup highlights being shown? Cheers.

The League Cup Show is showing highlights of the match on BBC 1 after Match of the Day 2. It's 00:10 in Scotland because we are tortured with the highlights of the Scottish football first.
