The Stock Check – Monday

Dimitar Berbatov’s quality is ultimately too much for visiting QPR, as the Bulgarian’s early strikes prove decisive, despite a strong second-half showing from Harry Redknapp’s seemingly doomed side. Here’s the Stock Check on a Monday night that delivered on its promise…

On the Up

Dimitar Berbatov
A third brace of the season took Berbatov to five goals in his last four matches as the Bulgarian stuck to the script and lived up to pre-match expectations. There were instant dividends for Berbatov’s new owners, then, and with a double Gameweek to come, his stock will surely continue to rise at pace.

Mark Schwarzer
A third penalty save of the season denied QPR a point and saw the Aussie stopper return seven Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points for his owners, despite failing to keep the clean sheet. Schwarzer is top rated for form in the FPL, averaging 6.5 points per game over the last six matches.

Adel Taarabt
With Redknapp going all out for the points, Taarabt came back into the lineup to lend his creative spark and goal threat. For once, the Moroccan delivered, firing QPR back into the match with a late first half goal, before winning the spot-kick which Remy squandered. With three points essential for QPR, surely Taarabt will retain his starting role for matches to come.

Loic Remy
Brought in from the flank for the second half, the Frenchman wasted his spot kick, only to surge through and make amends with a fine finish to hand the R’s a lifeline. It’s three strikes in the last four starts for Remy who continues to look the most likely to fetch the goals that QPR so badly need over the remaining seven matches.

Going Down

The QPR Defence
While Chris Samba was culpable for Fulham’s opening two goals in a disastrous first half, it was skipper Clint Hill that made way at half-time, presumably to protect him having earned a booking and escaped a potential sending off. In Gameweek 7, under Mark Hughes, Hill was subbed at half-time at West Brom – he remained out of the side until Gameweek 13. It remains to be seen if Hill will be restored to the side for the visit of Wigan – in truth, Redknapp is likely to be more displeased with the showing from Samba.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

As fixture proof as he is though, I don't see a haul.

Like we can predict these things though ... some of his long range strikes would need 2 Joe Harts to save.

    Good morning/evening/afternoon DZ!

Two weeks on and I'm still buzzing at St Mirren lifting the League cup! 🙂

It seems the footballing gods are smiling on me and long it may continue. I know it's no great shakes around here, but I've hit the top 15k for the first time in my life and I can also add Theo/Pappis > Berba/Santi as among my best ever hits.

No The game changed a few weeks ago. It was without a doubt the best strategy to go cheap defence, power five...and RVP plus two others. Now a heavier defence is very much an option with three mid price forwards and a more mixed midfield... Having said that the DGW's will put paid to that realisation.

Earlier this week I argued (Laernu will remember) that it was stupid to swap Wally to Caz in the run-up to GW33. My logic was sound, in that everyone would want Wally for the DGW, so it was wasteful to make that move.

A few days later two things happened: first, there was a tweet that Wally might be more injured than was suspected. Second, I realised that I could not have both Caz and Berb (for -4 as opposed to -8) without losing Wally. I knew I needed to have Caz and Berb.

Fast forward, and I did Wally and Lambert (8 points total) to Caz and Berb (c) (38 points total).

Morals: (1) sometimes you just need to get in the players you think will score well regardless of what it does to your plans or how it looks in terms of wasted transfers; and (2) I am a moron and my arguments should be ignored. 🙂

    Team for upcoming gameweek is

    Begovic (Federici)
    Cameron Davies Martin (Rafael, Demel)
    Santi Bale Sissoko Michu (Maloney)
    RVP Suarez Benteke

Thinking of saving the FT and doing four transfers next week for a 8 point hit. Will hopefully bring in Walcott, Sagna, Fellaini and DDG for Bale, Cameron, Michu and Begovic. Leaving me with a double gameweek team which looks like this.

    DDG (Federici)
    Rafael Sagna Demel (Davies, Martin)
    Santi Walcott Sissoko Fellaini (Maloney)
    RVP Suarez Benteke

Does this sound like a decent plan?

Evening. I cannot get any traction in the rankings over the past two months -- after a big surge up to 12.5k OR during dgws 22/23, my last eight weeks have been maddening:
    14.4k 20.5k 18.5k 17.6k 20.7k 16.9k 22.2k 19.6k
What kind of weekly numbers are all of you top 1k folk getting? My captain choices have been subpar, but besides that I can't sort out how to break 10k -- anyone know what score I would be on around that mark? I'm at 1774 and 19.6k now. Thanks.

It was a nice day to own Berbatov for the very first time.
It was a bit like losing your virginity to one of those Japanese slithery demom thingys who flip-flap their way across your cheap laminate flooring before frightening you to death with a silky smooth first touch and/ or ripping your throat out and gorging on the contents.
