The Stock Check – Monday

Dimitar Berbatov’s quality is ultimately too much for visiting QPR, as the Bulgarian’s early strikes prove decisive, despite a strong second-half showing from Harry Redknapp’s seemingly doomed side. Here’s the Stock Check on a Monday night that delivered on its promise…

On the Up

Dimitar Berbatov
A third brace of the season took Berbatov to five goals in his last four matches as the Bulgarian stuck to the script and lived up to pre-match expectations. There were instant dividends for Berbatov’s new owners, then, and with a double Gameweek to come, his stock will surely continue to rise at pace.

Mark Schwarzer
A third penalty save of the season denied QPR a point and saw the Aussie stopper return seven Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points for his owners, despite failing to keep the clean sheet. Schwarzer is top rated for form in the FPL, averaging 6.5 points per game over the last six matches.

Adel Taarabt
With Redknapp going all out for the points, Taarabt came back into the lineup to lend his creative spark and goal threat. For once, the Moroccan delivered, firing QPR back into the match with a late first half goal, before winning the spot-kick which Remy squandered. With three points essential for QPR, surely Taarabt will retain his starting role for matches to come.

Loic Remy
Brought in from the flank for the second half, the Frenchman wasted his spot kick, only to surge through and make amends with a fine finish to hand the R’s a lifeline. It’s three strikes in the last four starts for Remy who continues to look the most likely to fetch the goals that QPR so badly need over the remaining seven matches.

Going Down

The QPR Defence
While Chris Samba was culpable for Fulham’s opening two goals in a disastrous first half, it was skipper Clint Hill that made way at half-time, presumably to protect him having earned a booking and escaped a potential sending off. In Gameweek 7, under Mark Hughes, Hill was subbed at half-time at West Brom – he remained out of the side until Gameweek 13. It remains to be seen if Hill will be restored to the side for the visit of Wigan – in truth, Redknapp is likely to be more displeased with the showing from Samba.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Operation catch Forca Inter...

    Dear diary,

Another week, another ascent up this rocky terrain. The conditions are harsh and unforgiving but we're surviving. Morale in the camp is high and rations are plentiful. Our sherpa Acquafresca went out ahead to do a bit of reconnaissance, we'll be passing him in a few days and he will descend to about 1k rank once again using his steady supply of red arrows.

We're so close to the summit now, we can almost smell it. We've been praying to the FPL gods to keep us all safe but manny obstacles have harshed us before, so we know that there is still a bumpy ride ahead. For now though, we remain optimistic. Our Croatian nemesis up ahead is falling slowly and cries of harshing can be heard daily now, he is clearly struggling to maintain the sort of optimism we have in our camp currently and for that we are grateful.

I've been jotting things down in my logbook since GW20, the ascent has been long and arduous but looking back on it now, wow do I feel uplifted.

FORCA pts // SantiagoUnreal pts (points trailed by Santiagounreal)

    1162 - 1091 (71)
    1251 - 1149 (102)
    1344 - 1252 (92)
    1455 - 1337 (118)
    1518 - 1387 (131)
    1570 - 1465 (105)
    1668 - 1582 (86)
    1704 - 1629 (75)
    1756 - 1704 (52)
    1806 - 1764 (42)
    1838 - 1819 (19)
    1896 - 1884 (12)

As you can see we've narrowed the gap significantly and I hope manny can take inspiration from our journey thus far. The gap is now only 12 pts, and he looks a bit screwed for next week.

Temperatures are rising despite us being so high up and my nose has been bleeding for days, but that is the price you must pay to achieve such momentous ambitions.

Wish us luck for the rest of our journey

    Yours truly,

    Commander Santiagounreal

I will have 7 dgwk players for gwk 33: Jussi, Demel, Monreal, Santi, Walcott, Fellaini, Rooney for no hit or a 4 point hit if I include Remy -> Berba to make it 8 players.

I still have have my wildcard intact so should I save it or play it and bring in the likes of DDG, RVP etc.

I've got a decision to make in 2 weeks, but since I have a bit of time I might as well put it up here and see what I get.

I'm not planning to do any transfers this week but I'm planning to do Mata -> Fellaini and with the other FT I could do Benteke to Giroud. This leaves me with a lineup of the following (with 6DGW players, starred)

    DDG* (Boruc)

    Zaba Enrique Clyne (Wilson Turner)

    Felly* Wally* Caz* Jenas (Bale)

    RVP* Suarez Giroud

The obvious flaw in this lineup is Jenas, but while downgrading Mata gives me some cash, it only gives me 6.4 for a midfielder to work with. So I've tinkered around a bit and I've come up with some options:

    1) Stick to the plan
    2) Wait Fellaini to drop another 0.2 so that I can do Jenas to Pienaar instead of Benteke to Giroud. Leaves me with 6 DGW as well + Benteke (FUL)
    3) Shoot for the stars. With an additional 2 hits (On top of option 1) I can do Suarez -> Berba and Wilson -> Baines, leaving me with 8 DGW players but playing a 4-3-3. So that's 4 transfers right before GW33 but leaving me with a lineup of:

    Zaba Enrique Baines Clyne (Turner)

    Felly Wally Caz (Bale Jenas)

    RVP Berba Giroud

I hope this hasn't been too long, but it's just something nice to ponder while waiting for GW33. Cheer for any feedback, and thanks for your time 😀

Yea I wonder too whether Baines is worth the hassle. I just like the fact that my defenders play against 3 of the bottom 4 + West Ham, who are dire away. Fiddling around with resources.

Are you struggling to come up with a good midfielder beyond Caz Wally and Felly too?

Yes. It would free up money for me to get Fellaini on the flipside, but Suarez looking best captain material this coming week too. I suppose if I got Tevez, I would have to captain him.

I think Tevez is a great shout. My problem is that right now I think all transfers should go towards DGWers. Tevez will have a DGW eventually, so you should get him after GW33, but for now I would get in Arse, MUN, or Everton.

So will everyone be captaining one of Rooney/RVP for the double or will it be one of the Arsenal lads?

    DDG Robles (for future dgw)
    Sagna Reither Demel Martin Wilson

I feel like Sunderland is a bit like Germany circa 1930

Heavily in debt, low in morale, hit by a stifling depression, in search of an ubermensch to lead us, longing for the fatherland of our past to reign supreme again.

Suddenly there's a crazed mad man screaming from a beer hall in Swindon...and we've answered his call.

Whatever about Di Canio's questionable politics, if he can steer us clear of relegation, he will forever be a Sunderland legend in my eyes.

    Sunderland uber alles!

Id be an O'Neill fan for what he did at Celtic so keenly follow him.

As you say the proof will be in the pudding, the timing of the sacking is awful and the replacement at the minute over hyped.

O'Neill has a tendency to spend quite a bit on home nations players.

I"m thinking about the long term actually. You have Zabaleta coming on for Evans if he doesn't start anyway, and with the Benteke v Stoke issue, you're gonna get clashes eventually, happens to everyone. Once in a while it's good to hedge your bets.

I don't see any move you can make this week that (1) improves your team for this week and (2) adds to your DGW team. I would save the transfer this week and take whatever hits you need to for GW33 once you know what is up (that's what I am doing fwiw).

That makes a lot of sense to me actually. If there is any time to make a points hit it's on a DGW to soften the blow as long as it's for bringing in a DGW player. It's either that or I get a DGW player early. Not keen on JEvans though, his injury and rotation are worries.

why? if he scores it's still a goal..and he has looked threatening whenever he has played this season. His shot totals are often high enough to suggest he is practically a striker, which is why he's been classified as one (he is a forward who can also play wing)

You can say he's the opposite of OOP all you like but if he's got the threat then he's worth considering. I'd go Mirallas a million times over going for the likes of Osman for instance. Osman's goals would be a point more but who is the better threat? Mirallas for sure

just an example of how Mirallas is, despite being classified as a forward (and thus gets 1 point less for a goal + no CS point) is still in my opinion better than owning a player with less threat but who has that potential to score one more point from goals.

I might make 2 transfers with that team, unless you're absolutely sure Mata will play against Sunderland.

Your defense is ok for this week, I just worry about your front 7. If you're benching Marveaux, Mata Sturridge and Rooney are at risk for you.

Might do Sturridge + Marveaux to Berba + West Ham mid or Maloney even. Schneiderlin is also a decent option considering his advanced position + decent game in GW33. But Studge to Berba is a MUST for now before his price rises.

Yeh Nasty has to go. I had him a while back and it seemed like he was going to be a great pick....alas it didnt work out so I did a straight swap with Clichy.

With DGW coming up though not sure who you should pick. Only really fancy an Arsenal player but you have 3. Utd are in best form defensively but you can only really rely on DDG.

      I was a big help wasnt I 😕

Well you could possibly just scan through the GW33 fixtures for potentially profitable defense GWs in general. Doesn't have to be a DGW.

A southampton defender might do you well.

Already have Clyne - need to keep looking, just noticed Smalling has started the last 3 United games... worth a punt?

Not for me, especially when there's no solid news on Rafa injury. Like for like? Clichy? 5.6 and you have 0.3 in the bank i noticed

Doubt Smalling will play both games so probably not worth it. If Rafeal injury is bad, it becomes more appealing though

I'll have to keep an eye out for news on the Rafa injury then before i commit to that idea...

                I'll consider Clichy too...

    Morning scouters.

Missed the game last night. Seems theres a Berba bandwagon now. I dont care though, brace or no brace, DGW or no DGW.......the guy is dead to me.

People should get on the Anichebe Ass (as in donkey 😕 ) instead. It's all soft and comfortable I swear!

Don't really fancy getting 4 points from a DGW forward though...

haha, I know what you mean about Berb, I find it hard to believe in him too. Penalties are a real strength of his and that's always handy but in terms of overall threat I find it hard to get turned on by his stats. He gets a good monopoly of Fulham's chances but Fulham can be so awful when at times.

I'm just looking at his DGW fixtures and thinking Villa away and Chelsea Home is just not appealing enough, maybe if it was Villa away, QPR home I could buy into it?

I held onto Berba for so long when he was churning out his 2pts every single week.

I even blame him for my reverting to 3-5-2 for the first time in my fantasy 'career'. I think he turned me off strikers.

Anyway I'm going with just RVP (and Anichebe :?) as a DGW striker but likely will have Santi, Walcott, Afro in MF to make up for it

I'm thinking Mata out too, but I'm holding for another week for sure. He looked lively last night and after some oif his massive scores (for me) this season I think he warrants another week.

I will be holding for one more week, only because I'm not sure about who I want to replace him with.

Well maybe make your decision based on whether you have a Plan B. I have Jenas v Wigan coming off the bench so I'm keeping Mata, not sure about you though

    Di Canio's first epic quote...

'The players they don't have to love me, they just have to follow me'

I guess you could apply that to the fans too...I'll follow you Paolo if you get the results!!!
