KPI Analysis – Robin Van Persie

A fortnight ago, we rolled out a Preview Movie of the latest addition to our Members Area – the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) tables. Essentially, these track the frequency of certain key statistics that can help Fantasy managers identify a player’s form – whether it be a turn for the good or worse – over a Gameweek range or season. With this in mind, our first KPI focused members article looks at Robin Van Persie’s first season at United compared to his final year leading the line for Arsenal.

By tracking Van Persie’s frequency of key stats, Fantasy managers can begin to quantify and identify the exact areas of the Dutchman’s game that have altered since his move to Old Trafford last summer as they prepare potential investment for the season ahead.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

But will also give some rationale.
        1. Kompany vs. Mert: I'm not convinced City will be as solid in the back this year. They already took a step back last year from the year before and with a supposedly "attack-minded" plan for the year, it could be worse. Arsenal was quite solid in end last year.

        2. Silva vs Dzeko: Too much competition at the attacking tip for Dzeko to be reliably a part of it all, and he doesn't do anything else. Silva could rack up shit-tons of assists this year and will be in the middle of whatever kind of lineup they put together up top, I would think.

        3. Oscar vs Lukaku: I like Oscar, but he certainly hadn't reached the point where he was pushing Hazard or Mata out of the way for playing time. Those two are both stiffer competition for Oscar to overcome than Little Bunny Foo Foo Torres, or Demba Ba are for Lukaku. Lukaku was third or fourth in goals scored in EPL last year.... As a part-timer. The fact that Mourinho wouldn't let him out on loan again says to me that he has plans for him.

        That's why B...

Rodgers seems to hate Squirtle for some reason (why else would old man Carragher get so much gametime ahead of him last season?) and he's widely expected to go out on loan to Napoli.

Liverpool are strongly rumoured to be in for Papadopoulos and I think most expect him to be ahead of Kolo eventually if he signs, but the clock is ticking for bedding into the team and even if he signed tomorrow, he'd probably be eased into the side.

      Good question. Needs some thought.

On balance B looks the nicer long term selection with Koren and JRod solid picks for 5th mid and 3rd striker. There's less competition in my team for these places and the selection itself is not critical to the overall team. Silva, otoh, occupies a more important position which i would rather give to Haz, Wally or Coutinho.

A offers a few more intriguing options and fixtures appear to say Mirallas and Jarvis could score well early doors. But i worry about team balance if Mirallas is 3rd mid and Bony is 3rd striker.

      So, B

Pozuelo has the best attacking prospects but the least chance of regular gametime.

Evs wrote a very positive appraisal of Kim yesterday but he's 5.0m which puts me off.

Everyone went mad for Cabral after he scored in pre-season but you need to remember that that was his third goal in eight seasons. Very defensive. But I think he stands a very good chance of being nailed on and ought to protect the defence well. Possibly even BAPS for his defensive work in low scoring games. 2-3 points every week for a 5th mid isn't a complete disaster.

I am getting a little tempted, Evs, I have to say. Last season I almost always had a 4.5m nailed on 5th mid. I had to play them 12 times through the season and I only got attacking returns once. Maybe I should consider splashing out a bit more?

I'm not sure attacking threat is what you're looking for in a 5th mid. More important is nailed-onness (it's a word!)

Pick B and hope for the best.

Yes, I agree nailed on is most important. But any attacking threat would be a real bonus.

Koren is an interesting player. I watched a few live games with him before he moved on to the PL , and he was really a great player at the time. I would have thought he'd gotten further in his career by now, but maybe he didnt get matched properly, or maybe he lost his flair. I do think maybe his flair is just dormant, in hibarnation, and I hope we will see some og his former greatness. He had a precise strike from a distance, and could pick out any man with long passes, and showed a great football smartness. He showed top class footballing at his best.

I plan to make room for this guy in the squad. He is definately one to put on your watchlist. His stats from last season are not bad, and he has (or have once had..) the potential to go "michu" pointswise.

could do the math from past years, probably.

Zero and zero every week from GK
Have to go with four defenders. Maybe luck into one clean sheet, plus 2 x 2 and maybe a 3, so maybe 13 from back line.
Tally those five mids points from last season, add to Coutinho, subtract a bit from Bale due to Soldado (assuming Bale stays), leave Hazard, Walcott and Silva the same. Divide all those points by 38, because you will play all five every week
Add RVP's points and divide by 38

Add half of RVP's points again, plus half of Bale's points again, assuming you would captain one or the other every week.

        Voila.

Back of the envelope math, from last year, more than doubling Coutinho's points and only dropping Bale from 249 to 220, leaving everybody else the same, gives you... fifty points per week if you get that lucky from your back four every week.

          0 per week for keeper
13 per week from back four (if lucky)
262 RVP, 220 Bale, 147 Silva, 190 Hazard, 150 Coutinho, 191 Wally plus half of RVP points again and half of Bale points again gives you 37 per week from the front.

Assuming no injuries and no fall-off in form from anybody.

Ditto, but the time isn't completely wasted. The process is fun which is the main thing.

But it's also good for acquainting yourself with the teams, players, fixtures and prices. When the clock starts ticking, you won't need to waste time figuring out who your best options at £7m are, or whether Cardiff's fixture list warrants investment.

    Snodgrass vs. Pilkington

There's a LOT of discussion about picking up Snodgrass, but what about Pilkington? He is the cheaper option, and IF you review the minutes played vs. points scored, Pilkington did better off in 12/13. Am I missing something? lol

Snodgrass gives much more attacking threat and is on set pieces so has to be the premium option particular if baps are factored in. For me he's the best midfield in that price range.

I'm happy with the midfield, and the likes of Kagawa, Paulinho, Misalles all provide easy transfers out after the first gameweek. My biggest concern is the lack of a "season keeper" up front. I think with a midfield that strong Soldado is going to be essential?

Thinking of doing the same. The only problem is who to remove..

            Goncalves, Collin, Wallace, Sturgis, Yedlin

    Boruc, Jaask

    Zabaleta, Chester, Turner, Coleman, Collins.

    Miralles, Snodgrass, Hazard, Coutinho. Tonev

    J Rod, RvP, Lukaka,

    0.5m left...

    Some Rationale..
The keepers rotate well with good fixtures...
Didnt want to spend much in defence.. Cheapies with good fixtures and ok rotations..Hopefully all starting.. Will consider Toure and possibly Alcaraz too... for extra value..

Spent big in Mid, Tonev has a double GW and he could be Fantasy gold.... or not.. but anyway not a risk...

Up front.. Ive gone for RvP as I expect Bale to go almost certainly..
Will consider Saldado and Negredo too though.. Also Giroud looks tempting..

What are yer thoughts on the line up anyway?
    Cheers..

Monitor Tonev, if he starts the two could be a decent pick. Lambert has so many options in attacking midfield so I doubt it.

As I mentioned before, I am not a fan of Snodgrass.. but he is well backed here so don't listen to me 😉 I feel as though he won't be the consistent midfielder we want in our teams.

Zabaleta may be rotated with Richards.

Oh Arsene. How you infuritate me. With Suarez making sounds he'd join Arse, why not just stump up the cash? If they fail to get another quality striker this season, Arsene, and Arsenal will look bad, and i'm sure many of the first teamers will be low on morale. Just do it man!

Always with the 'promise' though. We said that when we had Fabs, Song, Nasri, etc etc. Many younger players don't make the heights expected of Arsenal, and then many who do, they leave to win trophies. It's good for the club and and the youth to bring in top class players. Ferguson was always smart this way - balancing the two.

Going for a balanced side with not too much exposure for DGW. How does this look?

    Mignolet (Given)
    Ivanovic Clyne Collins (Chester Parr)
    Hazard Walcott Coutinho Mirallas (Thomas)
    Van Persie Dzeko Anelka

Plan to ship out Big Ivan after the double and upgrade Anelka. Thoughts?

I like that a lot on paper, but i'm risk averse and i think Dzeko and Anelka are both risks for game time. If they both play, it would be a great team.
