KPI Analysis – Robin Van Persie

A fortnight ago, we rolled out a Preview Movie of the latest addition to our Members Area – the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) tables. Essentially, these track the frequency of certain key statistics that can help Fantasy managers identify a player’s form – whether it be a turn for the good or worse – over a Gameweek range or season. With this in mind, our first KPI focused members article looks at Robin Van Persie’s first season at United compared to his final year leading the line for Arsenal.

By tracking Van Persie’s frequency of key stats, Fantasy managers can begin to quantify and identify the exact areas of the Dutchman’s game that have altered since his move to Old Trafford last summer as they prepare potential investment for the season ahead.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Luiz: Because he played the Confederations Cup, was given a few more days of rest. Has thus played only one match (45 mins last night, vs Inter Milan) so far this pre-season, and wasn't on any kicks in those 45 mins. Although, it is obviously premature to assume that he wouldn't take any, at all. Played as CB, and should continue to do so. Mourinho has stated that he sees Luiz as a ball-playing central defender. His days as OOP could be history, as it stands.

Cole: The most nailed-on Chelsea defender, as it stands. Should be least prone to rotation, at least for the first few weeks. Perhaps, the safer bet.

A referance often quoted on here, read it again yesterday is how Everton are generally slow starters. Perhaps a more important factor and a chunk missing from this statement in the " under Moyes" bit. Will they be as slow out of the blocks under an attack minded Martinez, and even more importantly will Utd under Moyes start a little sluggishly? Swansea away is far from easy, my gut feeling is to avoid RVP to start with, too many question marks for me.

Got a niggle up at St Mirren but should be fine. I like him a lot.. am looking at Hazard --> Arfa early on with Mirallas and Altidore from the off potentially. Similar lines ... I prefer Nolan to Sess I think.

Have noticed the RMTs have changed a bit of late to include some rather dubious picks up front.

Dzeko: He just wont get regular game time given the competition. Has always been a super-sub/sporadic starter and its a massive gamble to bet otherwise. Should he nail down a role under the new manager then he'll be in my team, but it pays to wait and see.
Soldado: Unproven in the EPL and will take time to settle. Another one which is far too risky to start off with.

If you want to avoid WC in wk2 or wk3 then you want a full team of starters. There will be 1 or 2 bandwagons you want to jump on which could mean team surgery and its not good to have the extra hassle.

      i completely agree about soldado
how many players have arrived in the prem with good reputations and fallen flat on their face. forlan, veron, luque, morientes, cisse....

if he proves me wrong he'll be in my team, but start with him in my team before hes kicked a ball in the premier league? not a chance

especially players from Spain as they are just not used to the physical side of the EPL. off the top of my head only Torres & Aguero I can remember who flourished immediately.

The Dutch league on the other hand is a better indicator, and given Swanseas pre-season the only new player I would be tempted to bet on is Bony, but his fixtures are not good enough early on. Could be this seasons Benteke though

Dzeko is actually a good pick for the first 3 GWs. He is having a solid pre-season. It's not his first season in EPL. Also Pellegrini's comments indicate that he sees him as a starter.

A report on Nacer Chadli I found on the Spurs community website, which some may find useful:

"I've watched about half of the games Chadli has played in for the past 2 years. I work at a company similar to Opta when it comes to sports stats. I have access to over a wide range of scouting reports and analysis on the players (Prozone, Opta, Scout7).

Based on compiling scouting reports and analytics, we have Nacer Chadli as the 19th top prospect in the Eredivisie.

He is also not a starter in the Belgian national team. He's one of the first players used in rotation or off the bench but he is not a regular starter.

Some of the advanced stats that I did not show are his effective impact on possession. Compared to other players, he has a very low efficiency in establishing, maintaining, or creating attack in possession (translation: he's wasteful with the ball).

For the record, the Eredivisie is one of the better leagues when it comes to a correlation between a player's performance there and in the PL. What Chadli provides you is a strong, athletic, direct player who is very raw when it comes to integrating with other players. He might turn out pretty good (he has some very good attributes) but I don't think he makes an immediate impact."

If the the Eredivisie is one of the better leagues when it comes to a correlation between a player's performance there and in the PL then why did Kezman and Alfonso Alves fail so badly ? Apart from Van Nistellroy and Suarez think of other examples of players from Holland how have succeeded in the Prem

not necessarily, don't forget he was a one man team at arsenal so was involved in everything. at man utd hes utilised more as a goalscorer. i don't think we can write off the highest scorer in the fame two seasons running. i remember when henry was 14.5mil and everyone said it was too much. 4 weeks later everyone struggled when he went up to 14.6

Thouhh question; if Ronaldo makes a shocking return to United, like the rumours say, will you have him in your team? My guess is he'll come in at 14-15m.

Lets say you have Hazard, Santi and Michu, you would have to sacrifice two of them. Put Ronaldo on for Hazard and Koren / Kim snd Jarvis for the other two. Lets say the first three lands on 200pts avg, while the two cheap choices lands on 120-130 points. If Ronaldo continues to play like he hsve done, he could probsbly come close to 300pts, and adding the safe C choice, i see this as a safer and better option atm, but its a though one for sure.

Guys, we have reached around a 100 registrations in the FFS Uefa Council Leagues, with registrations closing on 9th August.

To those of you who don't know what these leagues are about, here's a quick gist -: Basically, we host leagues trying to mimic the best leagues in Europe i.e. -: Premier league, La-Liga, Serie-a, Bundesliga, Ligue1 and a fictional Rest of Europe. Each league has 20 participants, and it also has a corresponding live score and live table site. Your scores used are retrieved directly from FPL so you have to make no extra effort. Plus there are pressers, league-match reviews and other shit! 🙂

If you want to know more about the competitions, read the article -: http://uefacouncil.wordpress.com/2013/07/27/return-of-the-leagues/

If you want to skip the nonsense and go straight to the registration form go here -: http://preciselyme.com/fpl/form

I am genuinely surprised at the number of people who opted for their previous club. How's the summer been?

Frankly speaking, I am super excited for the World Cup. Got some ideas, and I think it could be a blast fantasy-wise, so don't take a break then. But that's way in the future 🙂

To give maximum participants a chance, it should be like the Euros. This was when the FFS UEFA was really launched, and the community (myself included) were extremely excited as it was the first time. Now, I don't even remember who came up with the idea of a doubles competition for Euros.......

Don't The Gunners have the best opening fixtures?

AVL, ful, TOT, sun, STO looks tasty. 3 out of 5 at home as well.

With his amazing home record, Giroud could be very useful to own for those games. Of course, if they don't sign any big name, who would become a main striker right away

    The season to play 3-5-2?
I've always been a 3-4-3 fan because of the Flexibility it affords in terms of transfers moving through the season. I.e. if you're third striker is 5.5/6m fodder then you have to release cash through transferring elsewhere in order to upgrade - which means two transfers.

The number of appealing midfielders this season - coupled with uncertainty around almost every forward - though is making me reconsider this with a view to moving to a 3-5-2.

Almost every "premium*" forward I can think of has doubt surrounding them. *Premium in my view is a forward from a top seven club (MUN,MCI,CHE,ARS,TOT,LIV, EVE - subjective, I know) - the archetypical goalscoring machines from seasons gone by. RVP - very expensive at £14m. MCI forwards - rest and rotation (I 100% do not by that Dzeko is going to be their "main man". CHE - rest and rotation again. ARS - Giroud actually appears nailed on unless ARS sign another forward (but ultimately though, it's Giroud

3-4-3 for me. With the change in the way assists are awarded, there'll be fewer this year so goals, and therefore goalscorers will be more important.

replying to a post just reminded me about something. in the 05/06 season henry was 14.5mil. i wrote him off as overpriced.

a few weeks later i really struggled when he went up to 14.6, ended up as seasons top scorer. and although i don't plan to have him in my team initially, i'm going to make sure i have the capacity to raise 14.5mil in case he has a stormer in the first 2 games.

What I read from this artical is not that RVP can be discounted because of stats from last season.
Yes he had a drop off of some stats but that's because every player at arsenal passed the ball to RVP in the 11/12 season if he was in the best position or not. Added to the fact he had been there donkeys years and knew everyone inside out.

The fact that RVP still produce the goods in a big team full of egos in his first season with them only shows me that with that first season under his belt he will be even more deadly this coming one. He now knows the players better he is clearly still there main goal threat. 14mil or not especially with bale all but gone you gonna want him in your team.
