KPI Analysis – Robin Van Persie

A fortnight ago, we rolled out a Preview Movie of the latest addition to our Members Area – the Key Performance Indicators (KPI) tables. Essentially, these track the frequency of certain key statistics that can help Fantasy managers identify a player’s form – whether it be a turn for the good or worse – over a Gameweek range or season. With this in mind, our first KPI focused members article looks at Robin Van Persie’s first season at United compared to his final year leading the line for Arsenal.

By tracking Van Persie’s frequency of key stats, Fantasy managers can begin to quantify and identify the exact areas of the Dutchman’s game that have altered since his move to Old Trafford last summer as they prepare potential investment for the season ahead.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

average points per game last season - bale 7.67 and walcott 7.63. Just sayin...

      And you're right to...

I think Walcott is as close to essential as you can find this season.

Could also depend on Giroud (or Suarez...?) - if he carried on his pre-season form he could really nail down the centre forward role. I think Walcott would even then still be a good pick, but maybe not for the 16-17+ point hauls he produced a few times last year.

Got to have him and Hazard for me. Not convinced RVP will score highly enough in opening fixtures either.

    Hi All!

Would love some feedback on this potential starting team:

    Marshall
    Dawson, Clyne, Coleman
    Hazard, Walcott, Coutinho, Shelvey
    Van Persie, Soldado, Dzeko

I'm a little worried i'm a bit light in midfield...? Not sure that Dzeki will be a starter, but I think it's worth the risk early doors, can soon get him out for a form player.

    Any feedback greatly appreciated!

Never been massively influenced but DGW's, and I don't think any Chelsea striker will start both games. I think Hazard is essential though (as captain) as most people will pick this.

Benteke is tempting, but will probably get him in after Villas blank gameweek.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah i'm a little worried about Shelvey, may need a bit of tweaking there.

I'm assuming Soldado will be 9.0/9.5.

I think will Caulker going there is slightly less of a threat to Dawson, but will monitor the situation!

Really happy with my team at the moment but I have been changing it pretty often,

      For first GW 3-4-3

      Boruc (ruddy)

Kosc Coleman Azpi (par and chester)

      Hazard Walcott Coutinho Mirallas (pablo)

      Dzeko Lukaku Benteke

Risk possibly with Lukaku and Dzeko not starting but he who dares and all that. Pre season form says they start + manager comments.

Looking for alternative to Kosc with fixtures clashing with Villa, any suggestions at 5.5>?

Most probably. I actually tipped them for relegation last year.

"Laudrup has little managerial experience. Their defence will crumble without Rodgers. They'll have second season syndrome. No way can they reach last year's height's without Scott Sinclair."

I'm not sure how bent fits into the Fulham team. There comes a time for every striker, when the pace is not there any more and you need to learn other ways of getting past defenders. Berbatov never had that problem - he was always one of those "smart" forwards. I don't think Bent has made that transition.

Not overally keen on the midfield. There are big points to be gained I feel for some of the midfield heavy hitters. I think u need one of Walcott/silva.
Maybe downgrade benteke. I think 3dgw is enough

Yeah, the midfield's definitely light. Walcott the only other big hitter that I'm confident on from the off. Silva, Mata & Cazorla, are they all at risk of a rest due to the Spain Ecuador game? I'm guessing Snodgrass/Mirallas to Walcott & Lukaku/Benteke to Anelka?

Ronaldo is one of the best players to have ever played the game. At 28 he's in his prime. Bale has got a long way to go. I thought United might get him at 40m, a reasonable price, so how is he now worth 85m. Crazy.

You don't think there is a difference? Check the numbers. Bale hasn't scored 40+ goals in a season, isn't a Balon D'or winner, isn't a champions league winner, isn't a title winner, hasn't won anything.

Well said. The prices being talked about to buy Bale are frankly nuts. Bale has a fair way to go before he can be considered in the same breath as Ronaldo. Bale definitely has great talent but Ronaldo and Messi's abilities are still streets ahead of any other player.

Soldado will score a lot imo, you can see this from the occasional game Defoe has when he starts as to the potential the striker position at Spurs can have. I'm going with Soldado I reckon since he's one of the only nailed on strikers there is

I see there's a lot of love for Lukaku on here, and judging by the '% picked by stat', i'm really not convinced he will start though, and really can't see him starting both DGW matches.

Don't get me wrong I think he's a great player, but with him competing directly with Ba and Torres i'm not sure how much game time he will get.

Have you there been any suggestions / quotes from Jose that he is Chelsea's first choice striker, other than pre-season form?

most people who are buying lukaku are looking at the short term prospects (the DGW) rather than the long term prospects. Torres might be rested from the friendly in Ecuador and Lukaku has been outperforming ba in the friendlies so he should start at least one of those games. If he gets 120 minutes from both games, that should be good enough considering that they're playing Hull and Villa.

Most will ditch him because of the blank in GW3 so unless Chelsea sign another striker, it's a good punt

Lots on here planning on selling Lukaku week 2. But what if Lukaku happens to play both games in the double week and has a blinder. All of a sudden he'll be a must have. A Chelsea striker for 8.0. He'll be 8.3 by wk2 and rising fast. A blank in wk3 won't matter as most new FPL players don't know what a blank is. Will we want to sell Lukaku and Hazard for that matter and then re-buy for a lot more? I don't think so, might have to try and bench both.

Ah. Sone Aluko. As a Scot I remember this guy as a tricky standout player for Aberdeen and a run of the mill dud at the football club formerly known as R*ngers.

Agreed. And I can confirm I'm very biased! Really think Hooper would have been more suited to the Championship. Can see Wanyama holding his own at Soton but no more.

Samaras always done the job in Europe whilst Hooper flopped.

Rookie KPI question: if I bring up player X's stats for GW1-19 and then ask it to compare them with their stats from GW20-38, and it says for example that his minutes per chance increased by 10%...does that mean the increase was in the first period or the second??

Bit late at night, probably not the time to try get my head around this!

As a supplement to this article, have a squizz at RvP first half of last season vs second half.

Off to bed now, but would be interested to hear anyone else's thoughts on it at some point. Couple of interesting stats in there.

This is true, but if you think the Smith decision made up for Khawaja's, you're wrong.

Fully agree, plus the umpire on the field should never have given the Khawajas decision out, how far from a bat does the ball need to be for him to see it?

Well that's just a human error, but when it goes up to the 3rd umpire and he gets it wrong with all the technology available to him, that's unforgivable.

I also don't understand how England lose a review in a situation where the ball was hitting the stumps but because it was just about the outside of the stump. The DRS has major flaws.
