The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Monday

On a night that saw Jonjo Shelvey play a part in all four goals, we witnessed Michu notch his first of the season, while Daniel Sturridge maintained his relentless scoring streak with a fourth goal in four games. With Victor Moses impressing on debut and injury concerns surrounding Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez, Monday’s encounter offered plenty for Fantasy managers to consider.

The Game Changer

Michu’s sweetly struck half volley from Shelvey’s smart knockdown issued a timely reminder of his talents. Up until tonight, Michu was amongst an array of several heavy hitting midfielders who have failed to live up to their pre-season billing. While Philippe Coutinho continued to toil without returns for Liverpool before being subbed with a shoulder injury, tonight’s strike from Michu promoted him in our thinking.

With Pablo Hernandez potentially sidelined with a hamstring problem, Michu stands out as Swansea’s key attacking asset as they embark on a run of friendly league fixtures in the weeks ahead. Having dropped to 8.9 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) after a run of sales, Michu may just be set to replicate the kind of form that saw him strike 18 goals from midfield in his debut season.

The Underused

A cult hero on these pages, Victor Moses announced himself to his new supporters with an encouraging display and a debut goal. Having suffered limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge, Moses is set to be given the freedom of the Liverpool left flank by Brendan Rodgers and his pace, power and trickery troubled the Swans all evening. With an eye for goal and the likes of Sturridge and Luis Suarez to convert his supply, Moses is owned by less than 1% of Fantasy managers but already looks good value at 6.2 in the FPL.

The Selection Poser

There were two notable absentees from the evening’s teamsheets as both Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez missed out. Liverpool’s Danish defender picked up a knock in training on Sunday which saw him sidelined – he is expected to return to the fold for the home clash with Southampton, however. That would signal a shake-up in the Liverpool back four which currently has Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel, Mamado Sakho and Andre Wisdom battling for two starting berths.

Hernandez’s situation is less certain. Michael Laudrup confirmed a hamstring injury prior to the game and stated that the Spanish winger could be out “for a week or two”. Hernandez had enjoyed an outstanding start to the campaign, attracting sizeable investment which had led to a FPL price hike to 6.2. Seemingly a major doubt for the trip to Crystal Palace, it remains to be seen if his owners hold firm ahead of Swansea’s favourable schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Possibly. Nani (gametime) and Coutinho (injury) are concerns.
Also not sure if Toure is still injured or out of favour at Pool... i'd consider it.

      Yes I probably would:

      Get Migs
Ward, Nani, Coutinho, Boetang & Nolan out
      Possibly Soldado also.....

    4 key questions..

    A - Eriksen or Sugurdson?
I think Eriksen will get more minutes and will proabably be more consistent over the season

B- I need to sell either Benteke or Giroud? What do you think?
I think Giroud can heavily benefit from Arsenal's midfield. he's the only legitimate striker in the squade so rather than spending 10 on Cazorla or Ozil, I think it's wide to only keep one player from the gunners and that would be Giroud. Benteke is very consistent though.. :-/ tough decision

C- Chelsea's central defense. Is Terry a safe pick? He's been havng a lot of game time under Mourinho's orders. I wanted to wait for Luiz' return to see what's will be the plan but it looks like Cahill will be the benched one.

D- Lampard playing time. What do you guys think. Is he a safe pick?

      A) Erikson
      B) You can't sell either. Benteke at a push for me.
      C) I think Terry might be the PL pick, but he isn't safe.
      D) He will get good returns, but you have to expect him not starting some games.

      A - Eriksen - nailed on.
      B - Neither unless injured.
C - Some say Luiz is nailed on, but they'll likely all be rotated. Terry not a safe pick but just as safe as the others, have a decent backup if you go for him. Cech & Cole only guarantees.
D - Same as the defence, be prepared for the odd 1 pointer. He should play 30+ league games.

I currently have Benteke - Giroud - RVP but I am planning to bring Rooney in instead of RVP. I don't think the mooney spent on RVP is worth compared to Rooney's returns

And I want to bring Suarez in too. I think Suarez will be a must have within a month.

Regarding Terry, well, I tend to think there will be some rotation at some point indeed but so far, he played a fill 90 min on the 4 GW. And we all know Mourinho's like warriors like him

Lampard.. well yes. The only concern I have regarding him are tactics. He indeed is the kind of player you'll play for the remaining 20min of a game and this would screw your atutomatic sub strategy

I'm considering captaining Ivanovic over Walcott or HBA this weekend...

Pretty confident about the cleansheet....very decent chance of bonus points and he loves to get in the goals.

    Thoughts?

Will do Coutinho to anyone of these players tonight.

    A) Lampard
    B) Oscar
    C) Eriksen

I am aware that they all have games this week but I am willing to take the risk of injury instead of dropping value. Can you help me pick one?
