Versus – Ramsey and Barkley

With five weeks of the season now behind us, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey and Everton’s Ross Barkley have been two of the biggest success stories thus far. Racking up 32 points and 25 points respectively in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, the duo’s displays, allied with their mid-price appeal, continues to tempt huge numbers of new owners.

Drafted in by over 510,000 managers last week, Ramsey has already picked up over 144,000 transfers in since Saturday’s deadline and with 31% ownership, is now the most popular midfielder in the game. Barkley is not far behind – now residing in 27% of teams, the Toffees youngster is third in terms of midfield ownership, with only City’s Yaya Toure separating the pair.

With Fantasy managers looking for ways to free up cash to acquire the returning Luis Suarez, we take a look at the pair’s performances over the first five Gameweeks so far to ascertain just what sort of an impact they’ve been making on the field of play:

Rooney definitely. He's got the form at the moment whereas Suarez doesn't and Sunderland can only improve after their sacking of PDC.

Both excellent choices, all I'll say is Rooney is a flat track bully at home. Also, with Suarez playing tomorrow, i doubt he'll play the full 90 on Sunday.

Sunderland were shite cos they wouldn't play for Di Canio. I'm expecting an improvement at the back for them v The Reds, but not too much to stop King Luis scoring a goal or two. Can't decide if Keiren Westwood us that bad a keeper or has woeful defending made him so bad. Reds have 10 points but not playing great ball so hopefully Suarez injects some play back into them.

Dunno. They're not great surely, but they're better than what they've shown at the back but I'd drop Westwood. Not too long ago with Keane managing them they were called SundIreland. Not looking great for Ireland when O'Shea led the revolt, Westwood is our 2nd choice keeper and the FAI want O'Neill to be the next manager 🙁

I reckon we could get better. O'Neill's a fairly defensive-minded manager. Trap didn't do a lot right but made them hard to beat. Hopefully a new manager will find some emerging talent and not put the likes of Whelan and Green in there.

Shall I do them today though and just assume he's out? If I wait til Friday pressers, Benteke will fall at least once, Ozil and Rooney will rise at least tonight (if not again), and Walcott may even drop too.

I usually don't place the prices but these are a lot of negative changes for my team.

You see, I'm leaning towards the second. I know that Oscar is supposedly Mourinho's No.10 but Hazard has outperformed him on almost every stat - Eventually these have got to pay off. Vidic I would rather have than Ferdinand true but does Vidic really justify the extra 0.5?

He hasn't outperformed on points though has he 😉

True, though neither have outperformed Brady in that respect either... 😉

Yeah Vidic is the better pick - I guess it's all down to what I do with the extra 0.5 since there'll probably be little between Oscar and Hazard price-wise come Saturday.

Speaking of goal threat, wtf ever happened to Vermaelen? At 5.5 he'd be the biggest steal in the game if he got regular starts and back to the form of two seasons ago...

      A) He's scored/assisted 41 goals in his last 45 EPL matches. Superb fixtures coming up.

      B) Sturridge is injury prone, Suarez is not. Suarez had the most touches of the ball in the opposition box in Europe's top 5 leagues last season - he wins penalties! He will also be on FK duties.

      C) He's the creative force in Spurs' midfield. Plays in the no.10 role behind Soldado so is likely to get many assists in addition to goals.

      D) He's a beast. Proved his FPL potential last season with WBA. May not be 100% nailed on, but like I posted earlier, he's an exceptional talent so you'd expect Martinez to play him most games.

With no injuries and everyone fresh who are in the starting arsenal midfield?

Already made my changes this week, just to settle an argument at work.

I say it is Arteta - Walcott - Ozil - Cazorla - Wilshere

    Potential WC team:

    Boruc • Myhill
    Nasty • Coleman • Wilson • Rosenier • Vidic
    Brady/Barkely • Ramsey • Erikson • Michu • Oscar
    Giroud • Sturridge • Rooney

    I think its a good team! could possibly do vidic + Oscar + Sturridge >> Mert/Dawson + Miralas/Hba + Suarez/Augero

Any players you had in your initial team that you now regretted not having?
For me it is Vertonghen, what a loss of points 🙁
Also another I have regretted not having is Ramsey, so many points, so much money
But I didn't consider him initially and I still don't have a space for him

That's what I thought about Michu last season...

With Arteta back though there will be more rotation in the middle (especially when Cazorla is fit and Wilshere drops deeper)

Still, he's playing with a lot of confidence and I think playing alongside Flamini (as he did on Sunday) will only boost his attacking potential. Flamini is happy to just sit back and hit people. Hard.

It's a bit of a different story to Michu though. Michu plays virtually as a striker and it was his first season in the PL (after topping the scoring charts for midfielders in La Liga the season before)

Is Clyne over the center backs a monetary constraint, a think-he-will-value-rise, or a belief he will out score Fonteyn and Lovren?

Gets the same CS points and got a couple of goals/assists last season.
