Versus – Ramsey and Barkley

With five weeks of the season now behind us, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey and Everton’s Ross Barkley have been two of the biggest success stories thus far. Racking up 32 points and 25 points respectively in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, the duo’s displays, allied with their mid-price appeal, continues to tempt huge numbers of new owners.

Drafted in by over 510,000 managers last week, Ramsey has already picked up over 144,000 transfers in since Saturday’s deadline and with 31% ownership, is now the most popular midfielder in the game. Barkley is not far behind – now residing in 27% of teams, the Toffees youngster is third in terms of midfield ownership, with only City’s Yaya Toure separating the pair.

With Fantasy managers looking for ways to free up cash to acquire the returning Luis Suarez, we take a look at the pair’s performances over the first five Gameweeks so far to ascertain just what sort of an impact they’ve been making on the field of play:

Like it. Ditch Lewis, he could drop in price in the next couple of months before Jan. Get a 4.0 with less ownership.

Not sure which two of Ozil, Ramsey, Giroud??

    Giroud: Nailed on, focal point
Ozil: Creative hub but assist based player, pricey
Ramsey: Only bringing him in now...ship sailed? value for money? allows investment in other areas of the team

Just some stats from Football 365 about players many of us own I said I'd throw up.

-Peter Whittingham recorded pass completion rates of just 48% v Tottenham on Sunday.

-Mesut Ozil has created more chances (10) in two PL games than any Manchester United player all season. He made seven key passes v Stoke on Saturday.

-Everton attack down the left in 42% of their attacks while only 32% of their attacks come down the right. (Baines more than Coleman.. )

-Nikica Jelavic touched the bal just 15 times in 45 minutes v West Ham. Romelu Lukaku came off the bench and had 40 touches in the same period of time. He also scored. (You really would expect him to start from here on in)

-No Fulham player is averaging more than one key pass per game this season. (Anytime I've seen them they look woefully short of creativity, not awful at the back though)

    - Robbie Brady created four chances for his Tigers teammates v Newcastle, with three of seven crosses reaching a teammate.

-Seven different City players have registered a PL assist this season. Only two United players have done the same. (Startling lack of creativity. Surely Kagawa and even Januzaj will get a look in over the next few weeks. )

-Ashley Young has reached a teammate with just one of 22 attempted crosses in four games.

-Ricky van Wolfswinkel missed the target with all five shots v Aston Villa. He has hit the target just once in his last four PL games. (Surely nobody has him anymore.. )

-None of Southampton's last eight PL games have featured more than two goals.

-Marc Wilson has been dribbled past more times (14) than any other PL player this season. (Not sure what to make of this.. )

-Swansea have conceded just one goal in three away games so far this season.

-Morgan Amalfitano has created more chances in two PL games (7) than any other West Brom player in five games so far this season.

      Lovely stuff.

I think pure assisters are still a no go but Ozil could well be a massive exception to that rule.

Agreed, can't call him a pure assister either when he seems to score more than the likes of Silva. Not unfeasible for him to score 10 goals this year as Arsenals main man really.

Does anybody have any data (or just from memory/experience) about transfer activity? It would make sense to me that midweek days (Wednesday/Thursday) was the slowest days after the knee-jerking is over. It does seem very active right now though, I guess a lot of WCes are being wielded.

Haha... had a bit of a discussion on here today about it.
Seems its about 50-50 though maybe Brady edged it. He is a goal scorer and is at the heart of everything attacking that Hull do. No question marks over his future spot regardless if they prove wrong.

This week, Bentekke, RVP, Wally > Suarez, Rooney, Michu

    No transfer GW7 then GW8 Zab & JWP > Wally & 4.0 defender

    That would leave me with

    Roo, Suarez, Giroud

No. He went from yellow to Red so I believe that means no.
      Right?

It seems good. But the funny part about planning for future transfers in advance is that an injury or price drop always messes your plan.

Totally true, but I think planning ahead allows you to establish a broader 'policy' - E.g. 'from GW X I want to have attacking ARS coverage' - 'from GW Y I want to get in a MCI defender' etc...

Theo Walcott has been ruled out until after the international break as he needs minor surgery on an abdomen problem. #AFC
    Didn't know it was surgery..

Thanks for replies earlier about my not understanding stuff.
I now understand a bit more.
I am stuck between Sturridge & Baines OR Suarez & Coleman though.

Sturridge & Suarez when playing together

Mansfield - (Sturridge starts, Suarez comes on for Sturridge)
    Sturridge - 1 goal
    Suarez - 1 goal

Man Utd - (Suarez starts, Sturridge comes on for Lucas)
    Sturridge - 1 goal

    Norwich - Both start
    Suarez - 1 goal
    Sturridge - 1 goal

    Oldham - Both start
    Suarez - 1 goal

    Arsenal - Both Start
    Suarez - 1 goal
    Sturridge - 1 Assist

    Man City - Both Start
    Goals: Sturridge

    Swansea - Both start
    Suarez - 1 goal, 2 assists
    Sturridge - 1 goal(Pen), 1 assist

    Spurs - Both Start
    Suarez - 1 goal, 1 assist

    Southampton
    Sturridge - 1 assist

    Chelsea - Both Start
    Sturridge - 1 goal, 1 assist
    Suarez - 1 goal, 1 assist

    So:
    Sturridge - 6 goals, 4 assists
    Suarez - 7 goals, 4 assists

Suarez big hauls against Wigan, Zenit etc... came when Sturridge was injured.

I'd say, if you have Sturridge, there is no rush to get Suarez. If you are on a WC, i'd probably get Suarez unless you feel the extra £ can be used better elsewhere.

Nice post. Was a large £ difference too last season. Not so much anymore... £1.7 can still buy a lot of upgrades though.

I thought Sturridge came off the bench vs Chelsea?

Anyways, upvoted, I was waiting for someone to do this haha.

Sturridge probably played less minutes as well.

Yeah you are right, he came on for Coutinho at half time, my mistake.

I remember it only cause I had him that game and how smug I felt after the Suarez braggers were left looking silly.
