The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Saturday

A stunning hat-trick from Luis Suarez maintains his devastating form and keeps Liverpool’s prolific “SAS” pairing on track. Meanwhile, at Old Trafford, a wonder strike from a lesser owned Austrian earns our attention, as David Moyes is forced to turn to his benched young starlet to help rescue three points and keep himself in touch with the leaders.

The Game Changer

We went in the Gameweek without a Premier League hat-trick this season – a statistic that was emphatically banished by Luis Suarez who single handedly dismantled West Brom at Anfield.

A superb solo effort opened his account, before two headers put the game to bed prior to Daniel Sturridge getting in on the act with a sublime fourth for Brendan Rodgers’ side. The Liverpool “SAS” produced again, then, taking their account to ten goals and four assists between them since the partnership was renewed in the Gameweek 6 win at Sunderland.

Incredibly, that has seen Daniel Sturridge score in every match since the return of Suarez, but, significantly, he’s now been overshadowed by his Uruguayan strike partner for the last two outings, with Suarez set to pocket 17 points this evening to add to the 10 gathered in the 2-2 draw at Newcastle.

Predictably perhaps, Suarez is emerging as the weapon of choice in this vibrant Liverpool attack but the consistency of Sturridge continues to make a case for doubling up on the duo. A trip to league leaders Arsenal next weekend will provide their sternest test yet – deliver again and the case for “SAS” acquisition will build to new heights.

The Underused

While he was on the losing side at Old Trafford, the performance and superb dead ball strike by Marko Arnautovic at last revealed his potential.

United’s tormentor in the first half, the Austrian was handed back his role on the flank as Peter Crouch returned to lead the attack for the Potters. Nevertheless, Arnautovic made his mark on his fifth Premier League start to suggest that he could yet be a key figure for Mark Hughes’ side and a factor in our Fantasy seasons.

Priced as a 5.5 midfielder, we’ve already seen Arnautovic deployed as a lone striker, while his propensity to shoot and ability at set-plays adds to his potential. Owned by less than 1% Fantasy Premier League managers, it’s likely that the Austrian will have to prove his worth again before interest begins to escalate given the competition for places in our midfield, even within his price bracket.

Even so, with home matches against Southampton, Sunderland and Cardiff to come in the next five, Arnautovic should have the opportunity to impress and draw further attention to his talent.

As a side note, Mark Hughes has confirmed, post-match, that illness forced Arnautovic to make way shortly after half-time.

The Selection Poser

While the Suarez vs Sturridge debate will be re-ignited and reassessed following Suarez’s superb haul, elsewhere it was the benching of Adnan Januzaj that will have caused some concern amongst his early adopters.

Having started in the 1-1 draw with Southampton, David Moyes elected to take the 18-year-old out of the spotlight for the visit of Stoke, only to turn to him in the final quarter to reinvigorate the ailing home side. Once again, Januzaj impressed, raising the expectations of the Old Trafford crowd whilst bringing fresh ideas and impetus to the United attack. Ultimately, his introduction was instrumental in their comeback which saw them earn the three points.

It’s not clear what this means for Januzaj – clearly, as we’ve previously indicated, Moyes appears to need the young winger’s influence right now. While today’s decision to start him from the bench will have caused some concern amongst his Fantasy owners, then, his performance will have at least confirmed his importance to the cause. It remains to be seen if that’s enough to see Januzaj start at Fulham in Gameweek 10.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

it's premature, but if i do decide to take -8 hit, i can field this team next week.

    boruc
    terry,GJ, coleman (chester, faye)
    oscar, silva, ramsey, barkley (ravel)
    suarez, aguero, giroud

then i'll have 2.7 in the bank, so i can get walcott for ramsey when he gets back. good plan?

some weird things that i have noticed so far.

    1) mass sale of RVP only drop 0.1m
    2) sturridge just score a goal + 2bp but due to suarez hat trick maybe, his %rise just drop by close to 10% for the previous rise

The whole RVP thing highlights for me everything that is wrong with FPL's price change structure. It only takes Moyes to say he's a doubt, which he now does every week so the flag goes on, comes off when he plays and all the transfers out are reset. It is a nonsense.

Selling Sturridge just before his price rise makes no sense to me at all.

Hey guys, I won't make any transfers until the last minute, but I have decided to take quick and decisive action to get Suarez... I'm not even bothered that they play Arsenal next, since he destroyed us there last year anyway, and Arsenal are hardly tight at the back these days...

    Which do you prefer?

    A - Evra, Barkley, Rooney & Sturridge > M.Turner, R.Morrison, Suarez & Aguero (-8)
    B - Evra, Rooney, & Sturridge > M.Turner, Suarez & Benteke (-4)
    C - Evra, Rooney & Sturridge > 4m defender*, Suarez & Aguero (-4)
    D - Evra & Sturridge > M.Turner & Suarez (2 FTs)
    E - Evra & Rooney > M.Turner & Suarez (2 FTs)
    F - Mignolet & Rooney > Boruc & Suarez (2FTs)
    G - Something else...

*Ideally, I'd like to have Chester, but not sure when he will return from injury... so maybe Faye could deputise...

I would kinda like C, but I'm just 0.4m off being able to afford M.Turner, which would be absolutely perfect for me, since I want Aguero too... but I'm not sure if I want any 4m defender other than Burner tbh...

I reckon D is the best option, and I the exact money to afford it...

Obviously, in the options where I'd get rid of Rooney, I'll have SAS, so will get rid of Sturridge the week after, to get Aguero for a hit...

Thanks for taking the time to help...

      Shorten your post!

        But it's Suarez...

I don't feel great about losing them, but Evra won't assist every week, and United are not keeping CS... and Sturridge is no longer better value IMO...

I find it very hard to keep these kind of posts short, since I feel that when people only ask what transfers they should make and/or offer the options, you are not really getting a feel for the persons thought process, thus the advice can never be optimal...

I like to get all of my thoughts into a post, if it takes up too much space for some, so be it...

        Do you have enough for...

Baines, Evra, Barkley, Sturridge -> Suarez, Silva, 2 ubers

It will get you Suarez, City cover and an extra big hitter.

I can afford that, but I'm not too thrilled on losing ALL that money from my defense that quickly... I want to do it gradually... I still believe it will be profitable to have some money tied up in defence (i.e. 2 big hitters) moving forward...

    Morning all

So, with Ozil and his little chums looking absolutely cream-crackered and some tough fixtures on the horizon, how about this plan:

    Ozil > Silva
    Sturridge > Rooney
    Lukaku > Aguero

    Ramsey, Silva, Michu, Ravel, 6m.
    Suarez, Rooney, Aguero

It's hot, but is it a little too bold?

That's a great front 8, but I'm not sure is take a hit to lose those 3 players.

Just Sturridge -> Aguero if you can afford, otherwise fund that with a downgrade of the 6m mid imo (if you have 2 freebies).

Hey Billy K, I am actually considering Ozil > Silva myself. I am probably not going to do it because (i) he does well at home, at least so far and (ii) Liverpool defense has not been that impressive. So he may get something next weekend.

I do think that if Ozil's returns start slowing down, given his ownership, owning Silva could be very profitable. That Members article basically put nothing between them.

Sorry to disappear but I had to put the washing out. Four straight days of rain here means it had piled up somewhat.......

I wasn't totally serious about those moves but:

Silva's stats are off the charts, even better than Aguero's.
Aguero's stats are really good and the combination looks to be improving.
      Low ownership.
      Decent fixtures.
I can afford them ( always an issue ).
      I have two free transfers.

Ozil is brilliant, especially at home but Arsenal looked exhausted yesterday and a more precise team than Palace may well have beaten them. Fixtures aren't great either:

Tues: Chelsea ( League Cup )
      Sat: Pool ( League )
      Wed: Dortmund ( PL )
      Sat: Man U ( League )

Just something to think about, haven't decided yet.

Hey Jins. All good. I should not have benched you this week! Bad move on my part. Let's at least hope we win.

I'd be tempted to do something with that midfield. Though it has served you well so far, it's probably going to run out of steam pretty quick. I'd be tempted by B) given Chelsea's upcoming fixtures. Though D) looks pretty good too. Not sure why you would lose Sturridge / Giroud, though. They have been tremendous so far and are showing no signs of letting up.

Thanks Pep, how's it looking for team Russia this week?

Fixtures for Arsenal/Liverpool over the next few games and having S&S (it surely can't continue to deliver all season) are behind the planned moves.

Aguero has 2 prime fixtures up next, and Benteke and Hazard have good fixtures also.

Currently on A) as things stand! But I agree that Nolan needs to go soon. May try and work a switch -> Hazard in GW11 along with Giroud -> Lukaku...

I have Arnautovic for 3 GW as starter, no contribution, so I dropped him and replace him with Cabaye
Just when I already dropped him, he scored against MU
What's wrong with this game? #headache
