Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Third Round Draw

With little time for turnaround between Gameweeks, we roll out the Round 2 results and Round 3 Draw of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, sponsored by Paddy Power, this evening. Before we look at the remaining contenders for the crown, those taking part should note that these ties take place over Gameweek 15 – the Gameweek 14 midweek matches do not count towards your tally:

Our defending champion Wild Rover seems to have risen to the occasion and, having climbed the rankings in the last couple of weeks, now faces Hillbillypete for a place in the Fourth Round. Wild Rover is one of only three previous Scout Cup winners still remaining; GoonerDave goes up against Mufcste55 – the latter is the favourite here, sitting just outside the top 10,000 – whilst sleepingmaster pits his wits against bigfourleggedbeast.

Mark’s podcast co-host and Champions League tipster Granville swept aside Dullardinho last weekend and now faces The Upper Deckers, who sits just inside the top 1 million. Gaz Downright – who tops the Contributors and Moderators league – is up against 2ndMan, whilst fellow moderators applebonkers and Ryan have been drawn against ste2510 and Bedknobs and Boomsticks respectively.

Amongst the community members still in with a shout, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad takes on Jafooli, The Sarjeant faces Isacki, EpicFAIL has been drawn against The Shadow and Daniel plays host to The Flying Nugget.

Giuliop11 may well be considered the favourite for the title. Sitting in 164th spot overall, he’s the man to avoid – Ferenc55 stands in his way of a Fourth Round spot.

As usual, we name-check the highest scoring winner from the previous round. Realunitedfc takes the honour, after racking up 90 points in Gameweek 13 – now up to around the 17,000-mark, he swaggers into the next fixture against bcdahm.

If you fancy a glance back at the Round 2 results, click here or if you are awaiting the fixture list for the next batch of head-to-head, the draw for the Third Round is available here.

As always, good luck to those still in with a shout of the silverware.

Hey lads, carrying on from my previous post on the number of games this season that teams have scored in ( http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2013/12/02/fantasy-football-scout-cup-viii-third-round-draw/?hc_page=26#hc_comment_6137431 for those who missed it ), I thought I'd break it down into home and away matches.

I'll use the number of 'blanks' each team has had in the premier league this season.

    Arsenal
    Blanks: 1
    Home: 0
    Away: 1

    Aston Villa
    Blanks: 6
    Home: 4
    Away: 2

    Cardiff
    Blanks: 6
    Home: 3
    Away: 3

    Crystal Palace
    Blanks: 8
    Home: 4
    Away: 4

    Chelsea
    Blanks: 3
    Home: 0
    Away: 3

    Everton
    Blanks: 4
    Home: 2
    Away: 2

    Fulham
    Blanks: 5
    Home: 0
    Away: 5

    Hull
    Blanks: 5
    Home: 2
    Away: 3

    Liverpool
    Blanks: 2
    Home: 1
    Away: 1

    Manchester City
    Blanks: 2
    Home: 0
    Away: 2

    Manchester United
    Blanks: 2
    Home: 1
    Away: 1

    Newcastle
    Blanks: 2
    Home: 1
    Away: 1

    Norwich
    Blanks: 5
    Home: 2
    Away: 3

    Southampton
    Blanks: 3
    Home: 1
    Away: 2

    Spurs
    Blanks: 5
    Home: 2
    Away: 3

    Stoke
    Blanks: 6
    Home: 3
    Away: 3

    Sunderland
    Blanks: 6
    Home: 1
    Away: 5

    Swansea
    Blanks: 5
    Home: 1
    Away: 4

    West Ham
    Blanks: 7
    Home: 3
    Away: 4

    West Brom
    Blanks: 4
    Home: 2
    Away: 2

    Tl;dr
    - Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham and Man City have all scored in every home game this season.
    - Aston Villa and Crystal Palace have the most number of home games in which they didn't score a goal (4)
    - Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle have scored in all but 1 of their away games.
    - Sunderland have the highest number of blanks away from home (5) and Crystal Palace, West Ham, Swansea and Sunderland have failed to score in 4 of their away games.

Hopefully this gives you an idea of who it is best to play your defenders against and which sides normally blank home and away.

    Cheers.

Probably Cabaye though I know everyone will say Sess because he's blanked the last couple. His games coming after this GW are immense though. Check your team and see who you will bench when Sess has an easy fixture as it might be excess to your needs.

Not quite - it resets to 0% when a player changes price (or has a flag removed). If it reset to 0% every day, no-one would ever rise! 🙂

No worries. When a player is injured or suspended they get a yellow, orange or red flag on FPL. When a red flag is removed, the player's price is frozen for 8 days and their previous % is reset to 0. I think that is also the case for orange flags but not for yellow flags but I'm not totally certain on that.

That's the reason RVP has lost so many owners since the start of the season but his price has only gone down 0.1 - he keeps getting flagged and then they take the flag off just before he's about to fall.

Yeah I was about to cite RVP's case . These sought of case leaves me bewildered and I can't figure out right strategy for changes . Similarly Sturridge is falling like anything but his price is not changing at similar pace but benefit is going to negredo/ giroud as people are switching over to them for studge. Countless examples but no clarity .
Price change system is not transparent and efficient IMO as nothing clear is given in rules of FPL . Love to see what others think about it .

Well, we're not really supposed to know about the price changes. FISO "cracked the code" and told us how it worked but the majority of players don't know anything about it.

But just forget about it is my advice. The only thing you need to worry about is when the player you want to buy is going to rise and when the player you want to sell is going to drop. Definitely don't let price changes dictate WHO you buy, only WHEN. TotalFPL tells you all that. Don't worry about the rest of it.

We are going to sell Ramsey to Real Madrid next season for £50,000,001. 😯

"I was asked after the Cardiff game whether I would sell Aaron for £50 million and the answer is no, of course. We just want to keep our team together. We have suffered in the past because we had to sell players but now we are in a stronger position financially." - AW

Losing your best player to Real Madrid for a hefty fee should not damage your club if you reinvest the money wisely as spurs can attest to. What's that? Oh..

Tbf to Spurs, they've never seen anything near that kind of money before. They have a really young squad, I think Dawson is the oldest non goalkeeper at 30 or 31. They could improve

i compleatly changed my strategy and invaste all my money upfront

    Walcott,Hazard,Couthino,Rooney,Suarez,Aguero +rotating Brady/Ravel looks solid

but i have problems with my defence now

Clyne , Pieters , Rat , Ward and Olsson

i am perfectly happy with my defence for this gw and Ward + Olsson have some nice fixures comming up

thanfully i have my eye on 2 Bigger defenders who dont cost that much also with good fixures upfront

    1) Chiriches at only 5.1M as Spurs defnder

    2) Distin at only 5.1M as well

i can updgarde Pieters and Clyne to get this two next gw

    thoughs about this?

    any other option maybe?

I'd play a decent defence; 3 cheepies in midpark and SAR upfront.

Fwiw, I think my defence of Terry, Dawson, Clyne, Flanface and Wilson is a nice balance to have. Obviously remove Wilson for a 4.0-4.5 like Vlaar for example.

Is anyone considering the 'Tosey Triple' with Everton players?
In two gwks time I should have Howard, Coleman and Jagielka leading up to Christmas.
5.5-6m defenders seem much better value this season than the same price midfielders.
