Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Third Round Draw

With little time for turnaround between Gameweeks, we roll out the Round 2 results and Round 3 Draw of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, sponsored by Paddy Power, this evening. Before we look at the remaining contenders for the crown, those taking part should note that these ties take place over Gameweek 15 – the Gameweek 14 midweek matches do not count towards your tally:

Our defending champion Wild Rover seems to have risen to the occasion and, having climbed the rankings in the last couple of weeks, now faces Hillbillypete for a place in the Fourth Round. Wild Rover is one of only three previous Scout Cup winners still remaining; GoonerDave goes up against Mufcste55 – the latter is the favourite here, sitting just outside the top 10,000 – whilst sleepingmaster pits his wits against bigfourleggedbeast.

Mark’s podcast co-host and Champions League tipster Granville swept aside Dullardinho last weekend and now faces The Upper Deckers, who sits just inside the top 1 million. Gaz Downright – who tops the Contributors and Moderators league – is up against 2ndMan, whilst fellow moderators applebonkers and Ryan have been drawn against ste2510 and Bedknobs and Boomsticks respectively.

Amongst the community members still in with a shout, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad takes on Jafooli, The Sarjeant faces Isacki, EpicFAIL has been drawn against The Shadow and Daniel plays host to The Flying Nugget.

Giuliop11 may well be considered the favourite for the title. Sitting in 164th spot overall, he’s the man to avoid – Ferenc55 stands in his way of a Fourth Round spot.

As usual, we name-check the highest scoring winner from the previous round. Realunitedfc takes the honour, after racking up 90 points in Gameweek 13 – now up to around the 17,000-mark, he swaggers into the next fixture against bcdahm.

If you fancy a glance back at the Round 2 results, click here or if you are awaiting the fixture list for the next batch of head-to-head, the draw for the Third Round is available here.

As always, good luck to those still in with a shout of the silverware.

Looking at my ML leader, who is a terrible FPL player, I can't see how I'm gonna catch him this season.

Maybe a TV of 102.8 has something to do with it 🙁

The problem is that his team actually looks much better than my own.

About 100 points. I'm gonna have to hit the jackpot when it comes to the January WC!

long way left yet. 24gmwks or so. thats 4pts per week. if he is fond of hits, then thats 4pts per week right there.

be patient and wait for the right time to pouch. dgwks will cut that lead down quick time if you prepare for them in advance and he is caught cold

I know that, but when you have 4-5M less to spend than every other team it makes a difference. I'm just gonna have to go uber-cheap at the back one more year.

Team value is a bit of a joke mate.

First off you lose. At least half of your gains anyway.

Second if its spread around your team its worth even less. Say everyone goes up by 0.3 you only get 0.1.

Also is anyone going to sell ramsey if they bought him for 5.5. Chances are if people are going to sell him it will be the ones that bought him when he was more expensive. With his form that's not likelky. So someone with say suarez ramsey and aguero probably 'made' 3 million but that won't ever get used.

Like in school if A implies B then it does not mean B implies A.

      Success leads to team value.

Team value does not necessarily lead to success.

The fact that the media are giving so much coverage to Tom Daley's sexual preference, is massively hypocritical in a media world that claims to promote equality.

If he had made a video saying that he only liked women, it wouldnt have made the news...

      Disagree.

He's a well known athelete. He comes out. That can't be easy.

We still live in a world where homphobia is acceptable. How often do you hear people use homophobic slurs day to day? Its a lot more common that racism.

He's been brave to do it. Hopefully this will encourage others including the next generation of sportsmen.

The reason he's getting the attention is because of the rarity of the occurrence. Does it go against equality when people celebrate the first black president? Or the first women winner in a sports event? No.

Were slowly winning the war against racism. Next up homophobia and sexism and well be living in a truly fair society.

Also reading back and realising who it is, I've falled for a massive wind up haven't I ronh? 😉 you're still the best poster here. I haven't put this much thought into a post since doing liverpool formations.

    cheap defence untill WC?

i just looked at fixures and with few simple downgrades you can either get SAR upfront or add extra big hitting mf (i know theyn dont prefrom well atm but that could change)

aslo now is perfect time of the year to take a gamble if you wanna go up in rank

    so my thinking is

    Marshal

    Distin,Olsson,Chiriches,Ward,Evans

virutualy you have 3 big hitting defenders and most expesive one cost 5.1M and all those teams have brilliant fixures upfront

I agree, I think he's great and he's gone through his obligatory AVB settling in period. There is a risk that he'll rotate with Dawson and Kaboul especially when Rose comes back and Vertonghen goes back to CB but I really think AVB will want Vert and Chiriches as his first choice pairing. They're quite similar players and very much what AVB wants from a CB. I'm getting Chiriches today.

Yes, there is a risk but I'm going to take it. He played three in a row and kept cleans in all three. Then AVB tried out Kaboul and Newcastle scored (he put Chiriches on at half time and they didn't score again) and then again for the City humiliation, after which he brought him back for MUN.

But yes, there's a risk, especially with Europa.

So it's confirmed - both Soton keepers out.

I've gone Mannone - cheapest playing keeper, 3 point bonus last game (assuming jersey is his to lose now) and fair-ish fixtures. Extra cash useful for other moves.

Which Arsenal players do you think will be rested this GW? I think one of Ozil or Ramsey will be benched. Ars have some tough fixtures coming up:

Hull home - PL 8th Dec
Napoli away - CL 11th Dec
City away - PL 14th Dec
Chelsea home - PL 23rd Dec

Closely followed by Hammers and Newcastle both away (26th and 29th Dec)

I played around with this. I currently have Rooney and he's scoring so well that I can't get rid of him at the moment. This issue is how bad the mid-price midfielders are compared to Gerrard/ Hazard etc. If you have Aguerro and Suarez as captaincy options and with Rooney bound to miss a game soon I think i would go for Lukaku and Gerrard.

Okay. My defence needs some changes. Fortunately I have 2 FT to use. Only 0.3 in bank though.

    Boruc - Migs
    Coleman-Walker-Terry-Chico-Baker

I'm holding on to Migs for the home games, see about the GK after that. More acute problem is defence line as Baker doesn't play and Coleman visits OT and Emirates in next two rounds. I can live with Terry (sun), Chico (NEW) and Walker (ful), but with 2 FT's I could win some security instantly.

What would you do? I'm thinking either one or both of these:

    1) Coleman -> Koscielny. Would win me money and better 2 fixtures, can change to Distin after next two rounds.
    2) Baker -> Palace defender - who?

Not really convinced on this. Cardiff has two next away and have only kept 2 clean sheets whole season, only one of them away.

I know, Palace is even worse, but short term, they have only conceded 1 in last 3, have 2 good home fixtures coming and a new manager known to think defence first.
