Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Devilish

The visit of former club Everton proved crucial for all the wrong reasons last night as Wayne Rooney toppled off the Suspension Tightrope. United’s main man delivered no more than a yellow card for his growing legion of Fantasy owners and subsequently earned himself a one-match ban, having picked up five cautions for the campaign:

Rooney now misses Saturday’s home game with Newcastle as David Moyes attempts to recover from the defeat to his former club and with Robin Van Persie still a real doubt, the United boss has plenty of issues up top against the Magpies.

Jonas Olsson is also set for the weekend off as West Brom prepare to welcome Norwich to The Hawthorns. The Baggies centre-half also earned his fifth booking of the season in last night’s home loss to City – an ever-present this term for the midlands outfit, his absence is set to give Diego Lugano or Craig Dawson a rare start alongside Gareth McAuley at centre-half.

West Ham’s Ravel Morrison also sits on the naughty step this weekend as his side head to Anfield. The former United midfielder picked up his fifth yellow for pushing Palace’s Joel Ward in the face in Tuesday evening’s loss at Selhurst Park – his owners will at least be relieved to hear Morrison will receive no further punishment for his behaviour and is available for the Gameweek 16 clash against Sunderland.

Two players clamber onto this week’s Suspension Tightrope after picking up their fourth cautions of the season. The culpable duo in question are Southampton’s Jose Fonte and Sunderland midfielder Jack Colback – if they collect another yellow in the next six Gameweeks, they will trigger the automatic one-match ban. Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy now moves onto six bookings after falling foul of the referee’s wrath in last night’s defeat at Swansea.

Elsewhere, Palace winger Yannick Bolasie serves the last of a three-match ban at home to Cardiff this Saturday. In terms of returns, Hull welcome back Curtis Davies for their trip to Swansea after the centre-half missed last night’s 2-0 loss at the Emirates, while West Brom’s Youssouf Mulumbu and United’s Phil Jones are also available for home games against Norwich and Newcastle respectively.

Why is everyone buying Gabbidon over Ward when Ward is .1 cheaper? They are basically the same no?

    Just a note on Lukaku

man is the biggest beast I have seen

I was at Villa park last season to watch Benteke give us a hard time, but that was Smalling he bullied

I saw Torres destroy Vidic, but that wasn't a different type of bullying, he destroyed Vidic using a fantastic change of pace that Vidic couldn't compete with, hence Torres usually got away or Vidic fouled him and got sent off

last night Vidic kept pace with Lukaku and tried to knock him off the ball, he couldn't. Next time around he tried to foul him, Lukaku just swatted him aside.

    Unreal stuff.

hence why I'm happy to sell Rooney for him

tbh I've been thinking of ways to talk myself in and out of that move

Rooney being unavailable plus Theo being unlikely to start shifted the balance in Lukaku's favour

I ran the stats on FPL since GW5

      Rooney - 6 goals, 5 assists 14 BPs, 72 points

      Lukaku - 8 goals, 2 assists, 10 BPs, 66 points

Price gap 2.9, is 6 extra points worth 2.9, especially when you look at Lukaku's fixtures

      Also, I considered this

with Rooney I eseentially have to have JWP and Brady rotating

with Lukaku I can sell one of them to a Lampard/Nasri type, so then you ask yourself who scores more

      Rooney and JWP/Brady

      or

      Lukaku and Lampard/Nasri

      You tell me

          as I said above

Rooney will, in all likelyhood outscore Lukaku, as he will get more assists, but i don't believe the difference will be enough to justify 3 million extra (same principle as Rooney over RvP) plus the extra money you have in midfield that doesn't involve 2 budget options where you're almost forced to play one, instead of one, who can be a good bench player

The key figure, when you're making these decisions, is how many points per million will each of them score? Get the one you reckon will earn you the highest points per million. Invest all your money that way, and if you've guessed right, your team is sorted. (Of course, it's hard to guess future points right!)

Only exception is with expensive runaway points scorers, because captaining them doubles your points, so they can still be worth signing, even if their raw points-per-million isn't quite as good as another candidate's.

And, finally getting to the point: buy Lukaku.

Rooney. Hazard doesn't tend to get returns in the bigger matches, and Rooney does. That might be the main differential between the two. In other words, Rooney is more consistent. (And I just argued that getting rid of Rooney right now can be a good thing. Guess you just gotta make the call and roll with it. You can always pick people back up after you get rid of them.)

IMO very few people are ever 'season keepers'

Michu was almost one for me last season. You can cling to an under performing player for too long and miss out on some big points elsewhere

Whilst Rooney is clearly not under-performing, his suspension, coupled with Lukaku's form, price and fixtures (after this weekend at least?) a really decent option that allows you to strengthen elsewhere

    Mignolet
    Terry, Chico, GJ
    Walcott, Ramsey, Ravel, JWP
    Rooney, Suarez, Kun
Subs: Davis, Cabaye, Coleman and Faye

Would you do A or B?

    a) Walcott and Rooney to Hazard and Lukaku
    b) Ravel, Walcott and Rooney to Hazard, Lampard(away form is good) and Lukakaka
    Thanks lads

Tbh, this is exactly what I am thinking too. Jags looks good, but then Arsenal this week doesn't sound very good, and WBA against Norwich at home, I see high clean sheet potential there. Don't know if I should overlook Jags though.

I'll do one now. Everybody is considering or going through with a Rooney to Lukaku move considering such things as suspension, fixtures, and budgetary constraints. Suarez is amazing and is worth of the captain's armband with another home fixture to relish, and is it time we realize that Frank Lampard is still a viable commodity? Other notable topics include Stevie G's prominent run, Hazard's recent form explosion, and the waning appeal of a certain Chelsea midfielder named Oscar. Finally, we wrap it up with a closer look at R. Morrison and contemplate his state of mind and whether or not he was in the right to be angry at the incident of ball kicked into teammate's head. - - There ya go!
