PlayON Player Picks – Gameweek 16

The Player Picks for our weekly Fantasy Football game are served up this Friday lunchtime. Once again, there are a number of potential bargains in this week’s PlayON Price List as treatment rooms around the country begin to empty:

If you’re new to PlayON, read this season’s introduction article for more information. If you’re already a PlayON player, read on for our selection of this week’s targets…

Goalkeeper – Petr Cech
There’s no question that Chelsea have been particularly porous at the back in recent matches but a home game with Crystal Palace affords the Blues a chance of a shut-out this weekend. Rested for the midweek Champions League win over Steaua Bucharest, Cech is set to return to the starting XI at Stamford Bridge tomorrow afternoon against a side that have scored just three times on their travels this term. At 8.1m, Jose Mourinho’s first-choice stopper looks a bargain, as does Hull’s Allan McGregor for a home clash against Stoke. Coming in at 7.8m in this week’s PlayON Price List, he’ll be hoping to maintain a superb defensive record which has seen his side concede just three times in seven matches at the KC Stadium this term.

Defender – Michael Turner
Back in the Norwich starting XI last weekend, the big centre-half helped the Canaries to a second clean sheet in the last three Gameweeks away to West Brom. Turner’s interceptions and clearances boost his appeal in the PlayON scoring matrix – a score of 1,650 points was seventh amongst defenders last time around yet he remains favourably priced, at 8.7m, for a home game against a Swansea side that have drawn blanks in three of their previous four road trips. James Chester’s recent return from a hamstring injury keeps him in the budget bracket – if you don’t opt for McGregor between the sticks, the Hull centre-half is priced at just 8.1m for the above-mentioned home game against Stoke. In the same game, Marc Wilson is available for 7.1m for the Potters and deputised for the injured Robert Huth at centre-half against Chelsea.

Midfielder – David Silva
Having recovered from a calf injury for Manchester City’s trip to Bayern Munich, the Spaniard was amongst the goals as Manuel Pellegrini’s men defeated the reigning European champions in their own backyard on Tuesday evening. Silva will set you back a mere 7.7m for tomorrow’s lunchtime game against Arsenal at the Etihad and, while he may not get the full 90 minutes, he’ll surely be handed enough time to wreak havoc as the hosts look to claw back a six-point deficit on Arsene Wenger’s league leaders. With team-mate James McCarthy suspended for Everton’s home game with Fulham, the chances of a rest for Ross Barkley look slim – he comes in at just 7.6m as the Toffees look to extend their unbeaten home run and, if you’ve cash to splash in the premium midfield bracket, Chelsea’s Oscar has recovered from injury and will take up 9.4m of your budget for the home game with Palace.

Forward – Wayne Rooney
A trip to Aston Villa looks full of promise for the United talisman. With Robin Van Persie* ruled out for a month, Rooney will carry the main attacking threat and will be hoping to maintain the form that has harvested four goals and a pair of assists in his last three away appearances – he comes in at 11.9m and could take advantage of a home side with injury worries at the back. Further down the price bracket, Southampton’s Pablo Osvaldo has now scored in each of the last two Gameweeks but is still reasonably priced at just 10.1m for a trip to Newcastle, whilst Swansea’s Michu is available for just 8.5m this weekend. The Spaniard returned from injury against Hull on Monday evening and looks set to lead the line as Swansea pay visit to Norwich – without a goal in his last six appearances, though, his acquisition remains something of a gamble.

*Van Persie was our original pick for this week’s match but the article has since been edited to reflect the fact he has been sidelined through injury and is unavailable for selection.

How To Play

PlayON is weekly Fantasy Football for free or for cash, so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built (you can keep changing your team right up to two hours before the first kick-off – 10.45am this Saturday), you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of winning your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings.

Similarly, you can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 55% win rate up to this point.

The Fantasy Football Scout Game

We’ve also got a £2 multiplayer game, dedicated to our community, which is now open and the prize pot is building.

Challenge Your Mates

You can also set up your own multiplayer games with your mates to play for bragging rights only or for cash. Create your own game at www.playon.co.uk.

Finally, a reminder that we have published a strategy guide, offering some tips for getting the most from your PlayON lineup, right here.

You have to be over 18 to enter cash games at PlayON. If you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly. PlayON is licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission.

10 Reasons Why Lukaku is the Best Captain Candidate This Week

    1) Everton is defastating at home scoring 12 in the last 5 and Fulham is shite on the road; also conceeding 12 in the last 5.

    2) Historically it's easy fixture for Everton. Fulham never won at Goodison and drew only 2 in the 24 encounters they have.

    3) Lukaku has the best odds to score from bookies. They rarely got it wrong.

    4) Lukaku is consistent which is what you want from your captain. Although his explosiveness is a bit meh - but no worries, tomorrow will be his 3rd double digit haul of the season.

    5) Other captains have some flaws:
Aguero never score in the league against Arsenal and Arsenal is not poo,
Suarez without Gerrard is unknown esp at WHL which is a bad fixture for Liverpool historically,
Rooney is playing in an inconsisntely (bad) MU side,
and Hazard might not even start after playing 90 minutes midweek.

    7) Whoscored predicted a 3-0 win for Everton. Just an extra 'expert' view is always nice.

    8) I like potatoes. Both Lukaku and Potato have the same amount of letter - 6 - which will be the minimum return Lukaku will get tomorrow.

    9) You probably didn't notice there was no number 6 - which is as said, the minimum score Lukaku will get tomorrow

    10) Ran out of ideas but stopping at 9 is just blah.

    Wow.

Yeah it's getting way too common.

Honestly even if I have unlimited budget, I'd still choose Lukaku over Rooney

            1. Lukaku won't get rotated
            2. May be on pens since Baines out
            3. On budget constraint, it's Lukaku Hazard vs Rooney Sess/Paulinho. Easy choice for me.

Let's put that in the past. Or can we say, he's consistently meh against easy opponent?

Nah I should say in recent form, he's been consistent. Last 4 has always give a return.

And you could do worse than 3 blanks out of 11.
Even Aguero had 4 blanks this year. And Suarez has 2 in 10.

Well last two returns were pretty lucky. One assist was just a shot go awry that was picked up by Oviedo, not an intentional pass.
The other it's not clear if he has even touched it, but if he did he was just trying to get the ball but pretty much missed it and it scraped his foot.

          Luck runs out.

Rooney vs Lukaku untill winter WC

    who will score more?

please dont say that player wich ,,you own'' will score more

realisticly i think thy will score around the same but i'd give slight adventage to Lukaku cause RVP is back so he will steal some of Rooney points

penalty kicks are very important in my opinion and with Banies out i can see Lukaku taking them

if they will score ,,same'' then Lukau is better optionin cause of price

as i said , i also belive that there wont be much beetwen them

        2 other factors are important

        1) i'd say this year everton is better side than Man UTD

        2) Rooney is worldclass player who can create chanse by himself where Lukaku can't do that

Just a price thing for me. Rooney means one less good midfielder. Lukaku means another really good midfielder. Apart from Ramsey almost all mid price midfielders are at best lucky punts, at worst Townsend. I'd much prefer Silva/Ozil/Walcott/Yaya in my side and Lukaku.

I have gone with Lukaka, despite wanting Rooney purely based on potential captain choices.

GW16: Lukaka (Ful h) v Rooney (AV a) Potential captain from Chelsea v CP
GW17 Suarez captain at home to Cardiff
GW18 Lukaka (Sun h) v Rooney (Hull a) Potential captain from Chelsea v swansea
GW19 Aguero captain v CP at home
GW20 Suarez at home to Hull or Arsenal player
          GW21 Lukaka (Nor h) v Rooney (swa h)

        Rooney will score more.
question is what you did / do with the additional funds if you have Lukaku instead of Rooney.

So basically it will be Rooney + Player 1 (+Player 2 maybe) vs Lukuka + Player A (+Player B maybe).

            Navas > Oscar

            For free .. Yay ?

Midfield would be: Ravel Ramsay Oscar Ozil Yaya

safer option would be to play Ramsay.

                Hi Demi,
We're still working on that - hoping to have it live shortly, along with our new site.
We'll be posting it here, as well as sending out an email, once it is live.

              Killian,

How are you able to update the live scores so quickly on the PlayON site? You seem to have info on scorers, assists, tackles, blocks, clearances etc very quickly.

Also, is there ever a review of any of the points allocated, or is the instant decision the final one.

              Cheers,
              Phil.

                Hi Philman,

Our live scoring system is something we spent a long time developing - 12 months - so that our customers would have immediately updating scores and team points during each match. We receive live feeds from Opta, our data partner, and then send them out to everyone in real time.

The points scoring system is continuously cross referencing against a number of files so it is not just the instant decision is the final one, we have non-cumulative and cumulative feeds that the system continuously cross-references against.

Barcelona are getting £15 mill to let intel sponsor the inside of their tops.
              The inside people!
Would love to have been the marketing guy who managed to sell that to them.
£15 mill for an advert that may only get seen if a player takes their top off and turns it inside out and if the camera happens to be pointing in that direction.

Boruc, Skrtel, Williams, Giroud -> Kelvin Davis, Chester, Distin, Rooney -8pt hit

I know it's a 8pt hit but I needed it as the 4 players I had were all out of form really and feel this could move me up the rankings as i have 7/11 players at home this weekend

Thanks both appreciate it. Figure we're at the point where short term planning re Everton and Newcastle fixtures can pay off and sort it out in the WC.

I agree re Sess - I've been wanting ot get rid for Cabaye but the yellows put me off. Might do it next week if there's no injuries but then SS has a tasty fixture (as does YC).

                  My conundrum.

Total FPL have Chester as slighty better chance for CS, so going him.

Injuries so far to Walcott, Benteke, Silva x2, Michu, Oscar, Gerrard, Brady, Collins, Boruc, Vorm, Baines along with 2 incredibly bad punts (Nani and Ben Arfa) have definitely made me feel a little better for all the hits I have made.

                Good to go? 🙂

                Howard (FUL)

Davies (STK) Bennett (SWA) Terry (CPL)

Lallana (NEW) Yaya (ARS) Ramsey (MCI) Barkley (FUL)

Remy (SOU) Suarez (TOT) Aguero (C) (ARS)

                Bench: Speroni, Shelvey, Flanagan, Clyne.

Is it worth doing Remy ----> Lukaku or Barkley ----> Ravel for a hit, or just leave it like it is?

How do I look for this week guys:

                Gazzaniga - (migs)

                Jagielka - Coleman - B Turner - (Collins - Mert)

Ramsey - Walcott - Januzaj - Hazard (Ravel)

                Rooney (C) - Aguero - Suarez (Vc)

I was thinking of playing Ravel over Ramsey as I think Walcott will start this week. Maybe bringing in an Everton midfielder for Ramsey? I have nothing in the bank.

                Cheers!
