The Weekend Team News

Filed under: Team News - Posted by: Demi

Steven Gerrard is officially ruled out of action with a hamstring complaint. Southampton’s injury problems persist ahead of a trip to Newcastle. West Ham face defensive issues as Sunderland roll up to Upton Park, Asmir Begovic is a doubt for Stoke’s visit to Hull, Christian Eriksen and Danny Rose return to boost Spurs, whilst Wilfried Bony recovers from injury to start for Swansea in the Europa League loss to St Gallen:

Brendan Rodgers has finally confirmed that Steven Gerrard will be sidelined for at least four weeks with the hamstring problem suffered against West Ham last weekend. There was good news on Jordan Henderson, though, with the Reds boss revealing that the midfielder has trained and “is fine”, after picking up a knock against the Hammers. Reports in the local press also confirm Daniel Agger is back in the squad after missing out through illness last week.

Bacary Sagna is set for a fitness test today, having missed the last two Gameweeks with a hamstring injury. Arsene Wenger also revealed Lukas Podolski is available for selection but is “a bit short” of match fitness, whilst the Gunners boss went on to confirm Theo Walcott is “looking stronger this week” after handing the wide man a series of brief sub appearances since his recovery from abdominal surgery.

Morgan Schneiderlin has an outside chance of recovering from a groin injury for Southampton’s trip to St James’ Park but, even if passed fit, is unlikely to manage the full 90 minutes according to Mauricio Pochettino. Aside from the central midfielder, the Saints boss doesn’t expect any of his walking wounded to return.

West Ham are without the services of Stewart Downing and Kevin Nolan for Sunderland through injury and suspension respectively, though Ravel Morrison returns from a one-match ban. Big Sam has injury worries in defence though – James Tomkins is a doubt with a groin injury, whilst James Collins and Guy Demel are both suffering from sickness. The Hammers boss remains hopeful both will recover, though.

Asmir Begovic is a major worry for Stoke’s trip to Hull after suffering a bang on his thigh in midweek. Mark Hughes revealed that Begovic “has a bit of bleeding in there” and will be assessed later today. Meanwhile, Erik Pieters returns after a groin injury.

Tottenham were boosted by the return of Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen for last night’s Europa League win over Anzhi. The left-back played the first 45 minutes of the 4-1 win, whilst Eriksen replaced Mousa Dembele just after the hour mark.

Wilfried Bony returned to action for Swansea last night after missing the last three games with a hamstring problem. Michu was an unused sub in the 1-0 defeat in Switzerland, having signalled his own comeback from knee and ankle problems by turning out against Hull earlier in the week. Gerhard Tremmel continued in goal for the Swans and perhaps looks likely to keep his place after Michel Vorm admitted he is set to undergo knee surgery next month.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter stream for breaking news as Friday’s press conferences unfold.

  1. So I done my transfers a couple of days ago what you all think?

Boruc, Skrtel, Williams, Giroud -> Kelvin Davis, Chester, Distin, Rooney -8pt hit

I know it's a 8pt hit but I needed it as the 4 players I had were all out of form really and feel this could move me up the rankings as i have 7/11 players at home this weekend

    1. Personally, so many hits for your defence is a poor choice in my opinion

      1. This.

You have to guarantee a cleanie to break even and hope the baps make you a profit with defenders. You effectively lose the 4 points you gain from cleanie with the hit.

So the gamble is "i think the player being replaced will concede a goal and my new player will get a cleanie and baps."

        Not the best punt IMO.

    2. It's sod's law that Giroud will score. I can't work out if it's just me but every time I transfer out a non-performer (3 weeks of low scores) they come good on the week I transfer them!

  2. Any chance our favorite norwegian j.parr will return now that moxey is out? Have had him since day1, but thinking parr -> bardsley now. Would be a shame if he starts playing right when I take him off :P

  3. Any news on Evra?

  4. New Post
  5. Alberto Tomba

What do you think of this team

    gazz
    distin, chester, terry
    cout, ramsey, ozil, ravel
    lukaku, rooney (c) suarez

    migs lallana, ward, kosc

    Would you change anything?

    1. get howard. i would take out coutinho and keep someone else

    2. Lack of city cover, can you bring in silva or yaya instead of cout?

  6. RMT 6 6 week lookahead is 307.5points with 51.2 this week.

Has anyone compared how the rmt function is doing vs real life?

  7. Hi, RMT please... i think its looking good.. but need a little tighter defence... come the crimbo wildcard!

    bourc

    shaw - vlaar - distin

ramsey - hazzard - walcott- silva

    rooney - suarez - aguero

    subs - gazzinga - turner - colback - chester

    1. theres a new post, but id say a weak defence but strong elsewhere. play chester instead of shaw or vlaar!!

  8. Hello all: Little advice if you please and also why?

Play Williams or Burner? (Have Marshall)

Play Barkley or Morrison? (Have Coleman and Lukaku)

    Cheers lads

  9. HVT

Play Chester (STK) over Burner (WBA) ?

  10. New Article Posted
  11. If you had unlimited money , who would be your top XI ?

  12. Make a change this week or re-asses next week?

    Mignolet (Harper)
    Coleman Zabaleta Ivanovic (Dawson, Shaw)
    Toure Hazard Ramsey Barkley (Kasami)
    Lukaku (c) Suarez Remy

    1FT £1.4m ITB

Ivanovic is going next week so could upgrade Barkely at same time then Get Howard week after??

  13. I'm not seeing any immediate concerns with my team so will likely carry a transfer over the next GW..

Keen to get anyone else thoughts? ?

Although it has not yet paid off, I want to keep Evra in for the time being especially with ManU nice set of fixtures coming up and then will ditch if still no points.

    Mignolet
    Evra, Coleman, Fonte
    Hazard (VC), Brunt, Ramsay, Mutch
    Roo (C), Augero, Suarez

Subs: Marshall, Brady, Turner (Cardiff), Dawson

    £0.3 in bank

    1. im not likng your midfield im afraid.
not much you can do about that with one transfer though so gtg for this week

      1. Yeah fair comment. A lot of money tied in the 3 strikers clearly. Logic is based on strikers smashing it this season versus their midfield counterparts largely speaking. Any recommendations medium term ?

  14. So Gerrard is out for a few weeks and Giroud i don't see him scoring soon!!!

Which one do you think will be the best replacements??

    A. Hazard, Schurrle or Lampard(CHE) AND J Rodriguez(SOU) or Deulofeu(EVE)

    B. Coutinho or Henderson (LIV) AND J Rodriguez(SOU) or Deulofeu(EVE)

    C. Mirallas (EVE) AND J Rodriguez(SOU) or Gouffran(NEW)

any other ideas appreciated.. :D :D

“A hit a week every week and finish in the top 50k is just fine and dandy for me. I play the game for the fun and how it improves watching Stoke vs Cardiff on a Monday night in November.”
