The Weekend Team News

Steven Gerrard is officially ruled out of action with a hamstring complaint. Southampton’s injury problems persist ahead of a trip to Newcastle. West Ham face defensive issues as Sunderland roll up to Upton Park, Asmir Begovic is a doubt for Stoke’s visit to Hull, Christian Eriksen and Danny Rose return to boost Spurs, whilst Wilfried Bony recovers from injury to start for Swansea in the Europa League loss to St Gallen:

Brendan Rodgers has finally confirmed that Steven Gerrard will be sidelined for at least four weeks with the hamstring problem suffered against West Ham last weekend. There was good news on Jordan Henderson, though, with the Reds boss revealing that the midfielder has trained and “is fine”, after picking up a knock against the Hammers. Reports in the local press also confirm Daniel Agger is back in the squad after missing out through illness last week.

Bacary Sagna is set for a fitness test today, having missed the last two Gameweeks with a hamstring injury. Arsene Wenger also revealed Lukas Podolski is available for selection but is “a bit short” of match fitness, whilst the Gunners boss went on to confirm Theo Walcott is “looking stronger this week” after handing the wide man a series of brief sub appearances since his recovery from abdominal surgery.

Morgan Schneiderlin has an outside chance of recovering from a groin injury for Southampton’s trip to St James’ Park but, even if passed fit, is unlikely to manage the full 90 minutes according to Mauricio Pochettino. Aside from the central midfielder, the Saints boss doesn’t expect any of his walking wounded to return.

West Ham are without the services of Stewart Downing and Kevin Nolan for Sunderland through injury and suspension respectively, though Ravel Morrison returns from a one-match ban. Big Sam has injury worries in defence though – James Tomkins is a doubt with a groin injury, whilst James Collins and Guy Demel are both suffering from sickness. The Hammers boss remains hopeful both will recover, though.

Asmir Begovic is a major worry for Stoke’s trip to Hull after suffering a bang on his thigh in midweek. Mark Hughes revealed that Begovic “has a bit of bleeding in there” and will be assessed later today. Meanwhile, Erik Pieters returns after a groin injury.

Tottenham were boosted by the return of Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen for last night’s Europa League win over Anzhi. The left-back played the first 45 minutes of the 4-1 win, whilst Eriksen replaced Mousa Dembele just after the hour mark.

Wilfried Bony returned to action for Swansea last night after missing the last three games with a hamstring problem. Michu was an unused sub in the 1-0 defeat in Switzerland, having signalled his own comeback from knee and ankle problems by turning out against Hull earlier in the week. Gerhard Tremmel continued in goal for the Swans and perhaps looks likely to keep his place after Michel Vorm admitted he is set to undergo knee surgery next month.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter stream for breaking news as Friday’s press conferences unfold.

Struggling with this one also. Currently benching Ravel - WHU don't score many and have multiple injuries. Arsenal can score against anyone and Ramsey is rested.

Run the comparison tool - Ramsey wins everything by a landslide.

Update on the 4th goal against West Ham:

The dubious goals panel has decided to credit Liverpool forward Luis Suarez with an extra strike, extending his Premier League-leading tally to 15.

Suarez has been awarded the fourth goal in Liverpool's 4-1 victory over West Ham last Saturday, which had originally been ruled an own goal by Hammers defender Joey O'Brien.

Did consider that. Although, I'm prepared to take a risk this week. These are some of the weeks when you could actually go up the rankings where you bench a player with high ownership and he doesn't end up doing well.
Gonna leave it last moment but I am really tempted to go Meyler over Rambo

What has Meyler done to sway you this way?

In a similar position with Ravel vs Rambo this week.

I think there will be goals at the Etihad, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Ramsey pop up with one. Ravel has a great fixture, but WHU are in poor form and have multiple injuries. Ramsey also thrashes Ravel on all stats.

Would you bench Ramsey over Ravel also?

    Soft spots

In the latest podcast Mark revealed he had a soft spot for Steven Ireland, based largely on his one and only incredible season five years ago when he ended the 2008/9 campaign with 160 points and scored 10 goals. Any hint of a return to form has him interested again.

Which players do you have an unlikely soft spot for? Would you actually draft them in even if they are clearly well past their sell by date?

Irritatingly, prior to this season mine was Yaya Toure - I'd owned him every season I think including all of last season up until the ACON. Went for Silva GW1 this year and just haven't found a way to squeeze Yaya in since. It's been a very sore point with me as I've always maintained he delivers at or above his value every season and now I'm not reaping the rewards when he delivers big!

The success of my GW this week will rest on my captain choice, atm its on Suarez (not having Lukaku could really hurt me this week) Suarez the right choice?

    Guzan (Harper)
    Santon, Mertesacker, Coleman (Gabbidon) (Clyne)
Oscar, Yaya Touré, Ramsey, Morrison (Januzaj)
    Suárez Remy, Agüero

Been busy with military duty this week, need some quick advice before the weekend -

Hazard (CRY) / Ramsey (mci) / Ozil (mci) / Whitts (WBA) / RavMo (SUN)

Who do I bench from this midfield?

    Cheers (:

Very glad I don't have Lukaku so I can't be coerced into the captaincy groupthink.

Long time since the C decision was this tough for me.

Australia had similar issues in previous series. No excuse when you have a side 5-150.

Guys, what do you think about Fletcher as an option in the attack? Fixtures are great, Sunderland played well against Chelsea and Tottenham, maybe its time to pick some points vs. bottom half?

The template strikers are delivering too much right now for it to be worth straying. I think that if you're going to punt, punt in midfield where you won't be losing out on so much if it goes wrong.

    Mignolet
    Terry - Burner - Olsson
    Hazard - Brady - Barkley - Nasri
    Suarez - Agüero - Lukaka (c)

    Bench: Boruc, Brunt, GlenJ, Chico

Not expecting a great score this week.

Would you select the same XI as above?

Considering Chico > Jags for (-4), but it can wait cant it??

Looks good to go. No point taking a hit now. Cardiff could get a clean sheet. I'd be tempted to play Glen J over Olsson since Spurs' left hand side was absolutely owned by TonyV of all people, so could be profitable for Glen.

yeah i think i am losing patience with Mignolet and GlanJ, week in week out we concede.

But Glens attackinh threat is worth considering i guess.
