The Weekend Team News

Steven Gerrard is officially ruled out of action with a hamstring complaint. Southampton’s injury problems persist ahead of a trip to Newcastle. West Ham face defensive issues as Sunderland roll up to Upton Park, Asmir Begovic is a doubt for Stoke’s visit to Hull, Christian Eriksen and Danny Rose return to boost Spurs, whilst Wilfried Bony recovers from injury to start for Swansea in the Europa League loss to St Gallen:

Brendan Rodgers has finally confirmed that Steven Gerrard will be sidelined for at least four weeks with the hamstring problem suffered against West Ham last weekend. There was good news on Jordan Henderson, though, with the Reds boss revealing that the midfielder has trained and “is fine”, after picking up a knock against the Hammers. Reports in the local press also confirm Daniel Agger is back in the squad after missing out through illness last week.

Bacary Sagna is set for a fitness test today, having missed the last two Gameweeks with a hamstring injury. Arsene Wenger also revealed Lukas Podolski is available for selection but is “a bit short” of match fitness, whilst the Gunners boss went on to confirm Theo Walcott is “looking stronger this week” after handing the wide man a series of brief sub appearances since his recovery from abdominal surgery.

Morgan Schneiderlin has an outside chance of recovering from a groin injury for Southampton’s trip to St James’ Park but, even if passed fit, is unlikely to manage the full 90 minutes according to Mauricio Pochettino. Aside from the central midfielder, the Saints boss doesn’t expect any of his walking wounded to return.

West Ham are without the services of Stewart Downing and Kevin Nolan for Sunderland through injury and suspension respectively, though Ravel Morrison returns from a one-match ban. Big Sam has injury worries in defence though – James Tomkins is a doubt with a groin injury, whilst James Collins and Guy Demel are both suffering from sickness. The Hammers boss remains hopeful both will recover, though.

Asmir Begovic is a major worry for Stoke’s trip to Hull after suffering a bang on his thigh in midweek. Mark Hughes revealed that Begovic “has a bit of bleeding in there” and will be assessed later today. Meanwhile, Erik Pieters returns after a groin injury.

Tottenham were boosted by the return of Danny Rose and Christian Eriksen for last night’s Europa League win over Anzhi. The left-back played the first 45 minutes of the 4-1 win, whilst Eriksen replaced Mousa Dembele just after the hour mark.

Wilfried Bony returned to action for Swansea last night after missing the last three games with a hamstring problem. Michu was an unused sub in the 1-0 defeat in Switzerland, having signalled his own comeback from knee and ankle problems by turning out against Hull earlier in the week. Gerhard Tremmel continued in goal for the Swans and perhaps looks likely to keep his place after Michel Vorm admitted he is set to undergo knee surgery next month.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter stream for breaking news as Friday’s press conferences unfold.

I've looked at 3 transfers I can make next week for a - 4. Funnily enough I will have the exact amount of cash needed available, maybe its destiny? Maybe its telling me something? It will leave me with £0.0m in the bank.

    They are.

    Lukaku OUT - Deulofeu IN
    Brady OUT - Silva IN
    Terry OUT - Koscielny IN

I need more diffs to sustain moving up the rankings. If I keep the same sort of team now, I think I'll pretty much end up where I'm at and Deulofeu is playing well, out wide or not, he is delivering and will get starts.

Next week Arsenal have Chelsea and then a London Derby. I would avoid Arsenal defenders for the next couple of weeks personally.

      Lukaku out is complete madness!

The other two are great long term transfers if you can make the cash up anywhere else.
If you downgraded Johnson and Terry, you may have enough?

There are a lot of potatoes that use is site. This makes me happy.

O a sidenote, it was a weird feeling making my transfer so early and not having to think about it all week, been both less stressful and slightly concerning that I made the decision so quickly.

I am offensive and I find this potato.

Meh no need to stress out. It's a game afterall.

But seriously Ravel to Silva or Jedinak to Silva with a hit next week? Been thinking about it all day and it's stressing me out.

I'm a 'what if' kind of potato who weighs up all his options, so a straightforward decision to me means I've missed something obvious!

I'd say lose Jedinak, any goals are going for West Ham will be through him, and now is the time to show his worth with Nolan out.

Its my stress reliever after a poor gameweek, but it can go all so wrong. If I'm having a bad gameweek, I look forward to next week right away. If its been really really bad, then I tend to do my transfers early, which is probably stupid given basically a full week for them to miss the next game. But sometimes it cools the fire by doing them early and I can just set my team up for the following gameweek.

The Migs to Howard is too obvious, especially with Jagielka in my team already. Hopefully Evertons form continues...

I think the Spurs game will be tight. I'm happy to keep a transfer and just play Mignolet this week. I have Johnson to, but I have him 1st of the bench should anyone not play.

Good morning, A bit of advice on my team would be greatly appreciated...
    Gazza
    Burner-Coleman-Evans
    Ozil-Ramsey-Hazard-Gerrard
    Lukaku-Suarez-Augero
Harper-Januzaj-Chester-Flanagan with 1.7 in the bank

    A = Gerrard > Silva
    B = Gerrard > Oscar
C = Gerrard > Shelvey, Ireland or Stirling enabling me to do Lukaku > RVP next week. I need a big differential to make up ground in my mini league and in my opinion putting RVP back in could potentially do that for me.

What do you think to my team and which option would you pick?

I think Hottopics that are purely speculative such as "soft spots" or "the new holy midfield trinity" which don't encourage any quantitative knowledge are encouraging the large volume of sensationalist and sometimes even trolling posts on here.

I'd choose a captain analysis or a smarty pants type post over those any day of the week, perhaps others disagree..

In my opinion more Doosra type posters should be encouraged, not Forca types.

Wracked with indecision. Help me please....

    Current team:
    Mignolet
    Meertesacker, Coleman, Debuchy
    Ozil, Ramsay, Brady, Hernandez
    Aguero, Suarez and Rooney.
    subs: Given, Lallana, Gabbidon, Vlaar.

Quite a lot of players I'd lose big Team Value to sell - eg Aguero, Lallana, Ramsay.
Brady and Lallana are in last chance saloon - I'm considering Morrison, Barkley, Fer, Oscar.
Could ship out Ozil for Oscar - but his next game is vs Arsenal.
Or sell Aguero (losing Team Value), get in Lukaku and upgrade, say, Lallana to Oscar fo a hit (I'm quite a happy hit-taker). My defence looks dodgy, but Meert in early ko may be ok (I hate strikers vs defenders - hence thinking of selling Aguero). 0.4m cash in the attic. Help!

My current team value is £ 110.4m but I do not worry about that figure. The figure I look at is selling value which is currently at £ 106.8m
I never worry at selling players that I have made a big profit on. Your only question should be if you are deciding to sell those players is " Will I want to transfer him back in anytime soon?"

Answer that question then act. Selling him and buying back soon will only cost you more later.
So if you feel that selling Aguero and picking up more points by having Lukaku and having the extra money to spend. Then go ahead. I did Rooney > Lukaku last week.
      Hope that makes some sense

I feel building TV for January is important, it has worked for me the last 2 years. Wild card then and reallocate your funds. Players like Suarez, Aguero are undroppable if you have bought them a while ago. Unless they get injured or someone else emerges.
One of my midfield slots I allocate as a Profit making slot. Usually a cheap midfielder.
          I started with - Barkley £4.5m, I made 0.6m on him
          Changed to - R.Morrison £4.3m 0.3m
          > - Oviedo £ 4.4m

Have 2 FT and .3 in the bank. Would love to get Lukaku in but don't really fancy dropping any of my front line ATM. So, thinking about:

I'm going Aguero (c) and Hazard (vc).

Have Suarez and probably also have Lukaku.

For me the fact that City are at home, rested their first team and had an extra days rest is too tempting.

Arsenal will have 48hrs max rest after a series of very tough (mentally & physically) matches, with minimal rotation.

This week could see City really stake a claim and the Gunners unravel a little.

        Cue a 0-0 😛

10 Reasons Why Lukaku is the Best Captain Candidate This Week

    1) Everton is defastating at home scoring 12 in the last 5 and Fulham is shite on the road; also conceeding 12 in the last 5.

    2) Historically it's easy fixture for Everton. Fulham never won at Goodison and drew only 2 in the 24 encounters they have.

    3) Lukaku has the best odds to score from bookies. They rarely got it wrong.

    4) Lukaku is consistent which is what you want from your captain. Although his explosiveness is a bit meh - but no worries, tomorrow will be his 3rd double digit haul of the season.

    5) Other captains have some flaws:
Aguero never score against Arsenal and Arsenal is not poo,
Suarez without Gerrard is unknown esp at WHL which is a bad fixture for Liverpool historically,
Rooney is playing in an inconsisntely (bad) MU side,
and Hazard might not even start after playing 90 minutes midweek.

    7) Whoscored predicted a 3-0 win for Everton. Just an extra 'expert' view is always nice.

    8) I like potatoes. Both Lukaku and Potato have the same amount of letter - 6 - which will be the minimum return Lukaku will get tomorrow.

    9) You probably didn't notice there was no number 6 - which is as said, the minimum score Lukaku will get tomorrow

    10) Ran out of ideas but stopping at 9 is just blah.

    Wow.

Or can we say, he's consistently meh against easy opponent?

Probably I should say in recent form, he's been consistent-ish. Last 4 has always give a return.

And you could do worse than 3 blanks out of 11.
