Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Fifth Round Draw

We’ve reached the Fifth Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup, sponsored by Paddy Power, this weekend, and are on the lookout for a new face to lift the silverware after our two remaining previous winners, Goonerdave and sleepingmaster, were both eliminated:

Pryston North End FC and Albany City were the respective victors and will now take on Team Hayemaker and ec3dm over Gameweek 17. We’re also keeping an eye on Hillbillypete – having knocked out current champion Wild Rover, he continue to remain in with a shout of the silverware and is up against site regular The Sarjeant in the Fifth Round.

Our site moderator, Applebonkers, is also in the hat and is something of an underdog for the weekend, with his opponent BJ sitting just inside the top 5,000. Tony Hibbert’s Love Child is the top-ranked manager in this week’s draw – sitting in 570th overall, he now squares up to Nepalock.

Looking at some of the site regulars, Malcolm Tucker for England manager is up against 11 Men in Flight, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad will pit his wits against TOMDN, while 2ndMan is up against mickey30101985 for a place in the last 32.

As always, we name-check the highest scoring manager from the previous round. Both Michu at De Gea Bar and Andy Paps achieved this accolade, with 97 points apiece, and will now go head-to-head with Son of Rambo and dino_dem next time around.

The lowest-scoring team to advance to the Fifth Round belongs to Mr T. He’ll be hoping to improve upon a score of 63 points as he prepares to do battle with heco87.

Hi folks. Gabbidon or Ward? I haven't watched CPL all season but imagine that Gabbidon is more chance of bonus and the odd goal while Ward will sneak assists here and there. At the moment I am going with Gabbidon for the extra 0.2. Thoughts?

B) means I get to keep some City attack, plus having a strong front 8 could be useful over the xmas period. However, a weekly benching headache is likely.

Btw how come you wanna get rid of Evra over Terry? Those fixtures look bad for Terry more than anythin.. maybe Evra and Terry to double Everton defense should be your move

        Yeah, if you've had him since 9.1m then he's a keeper. I got him at 9.6m so not so much value tied up there. I think I'll probably keep though.
        
        Evra just doesn't look to be getting forward at all of late. At least with Terry he has a very strong goal threat. But, possibly both need to go. Looking forward to Baines coming back (as a non Coleman owner)!

I'm captaining Suarez like the rest of the world this GW, but does anyone else find it out that Negredo isn't even one of the choices for this week on the home page? There's some pretty terrible choices listed for him not to even be named.

Just thought with all the attention he's getting right now with Aguero out that it was odd.....

  He's not 100% nailed on and hasn't been very explosive. I'm sure many would'vre taken a punt on him normally, but why risk it for someone who's not nailed on. I wouldn't have even risked captaining Aguero (if he was fit) over Suarez this gameweek.

  He is talking through his backside. Firstly you have to get a lead to protect, not certain if you are set up defensive manner. The percentage of 0,0 draws increase and of course if you do concede you have to revert to the original approach needing 2 goals to win, and becoming more open at the back. Sit back against Arsenal and City amongst others and you will get burnt at some stage.

  Basically my team now after a -8. Got Haz and Evans instead of Evra and Nasri though. Needless to say, I think it looks good.
  
  I also think you should look at hits individually rather than because you took a -8 you dont want to take more. If you think a certain move is worth a hit then do it.. ask the question without stating that you have already made transfers as it completely taints the view. In reality each hit is -4 and previous hits dont change the outcome of that certain hit. Maybe another hit is worth it this week?

  Depends on your choice of 3rd forward or 5th mid. Walcott should bring more points than Giroud but Hooper/Rodriguez bring more than Cabaye. These depend on form for me, some luck. I prefer goid firm over fixtures and don't believe a player is due if his form is poor but a handy fixture is next.
