The Community Round Up

Filed under: Community - Posted by: Jonty

Injuries have ripped apart the “template” teams in the last week or so, creating a variety of discussions in the community, which chew over potential replacements. With the January wildcard beckoning, our focus on the week’s hot topics revisit chat on the options in midfield and goalkeeper rotation pairings. In addition, a late entry from today’s activity took a wry look at the some of the characters that make up the Fantasy Football Scout community. As usual, we round things off with a check on the latest from our community leagues, congratulating an FA Cup winner along the way.

The Hottest Topics

Aaron Ramsey’s injury at Upton Park looks to have put the Welsh wonder out of the picture, causing much consternation and deliberation amongst his army of owners. From the community reaction it’s clear that some will gamble on clinging on to avoid the cash loss, but for others the setback meant he was shown the door. Among those on hand to offer advice on a sensible Ramsey exit strategy was @ocprodigy with the in-form Theo Walcott and Yohan Cabaye cited as ready-made replacments.

Even before Ramsey’s injury, the community was considering a dramatic ditching of his services. Earlier in the week TW asked whether now was the best time for Fantasy managers to cash in on Ramsey’s price rise and look elsewhere.

Those considering a downgrade to liberate funds could find some timely advice via a consideration of budget midfield options with Floydy_Floyd tipping Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling to prosper in 2014. PTC meanwhile has his eye on the assist potential of Barry Bannan as the Pulis-inspired Palace revival goes through the gears.

It wasn’t just gaps in midfield that were opening up over Christmas. Romelu Lukaku may have finally broken out of his dry spell with the winner over Southampton today but, having gone five starts without a goal before today’s fixture, there was plenty of fidgeting amongst his owners in the community. In the Lukaku debate , Marr pointed to form over fixtures, while SkyCell, perhaps wisely, gave the Belgian the next three outings to prove his worth. Maybe today’s goal has changed the landscape, although almost 100,000 shed his services before yesterday’s deadline.

Elsewhere, Nice to Finally Michu gazed into 2014 to assess the best goalkeeper pairings on offer. His excellent post looks at the best placed pairs over the next ten Gameweeks, with Sunderland’s Vito Mannone and the Gunners Wojciech Szczesny among the standout options on offer.

Finally, JDoyles profiling of some of the FFS community “characters” hoovered up votes and raised smiles aplenty as Gameweek 19 drew to a close. Are you amongst the poster personality types in his breakdown?

The Community Tournaments

FFS UEFA’s FA Cup competition has been one of the community’s largest to date. Finally a winner has emerged with Fantasy Football Scout community moderator Ryan’s Tranmere Rovers beating Fantasy Kid’s Luton Town in a nail-biting conclusion. There was further joy amongst our moderator team, with Evs being crowned champion in FFS UEFA’s Premier League H2H competition.

HeelsOverHead’s Worst to First 2 Million Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five game weeks, now has 19 teams within a rank of one million and seven in the top 250,000. With an overall rank of 70,106 Teltzham Hotspurs is in the lead.

  1. Mignolet,
    Coleman, Chico, Clyne, Burner,
    Hazard, Walcott (V), Morrison,
    Suarez (C), Rooney, Lukaku.

    Chester, Brady, Silva (susp.).

1 FT, nothing in the bank.

What to do? The only thing I can think of is Chico -> Bardsley, Brady -> Sterling for a 4 pt. hit. Is that a good idea?

    1. Yes. Wildcard couldn't come sooner for u!

    2. surely Giroud is a good shout for Rooney. He's got great fixtures plus frees up a bit of cash to bolster midfield?

  2. I'm feeling a bit under the weather... something's not quite right

    1. Have a hot toddy

Lads any thoughts on this shower for next GW ?

    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/8486/event-history/19

I have already brought in Walcott for Silva

I'm hoping there's any outside chance of Ozil playing but can't see it.

My defence alas has the smelliest fixtures on planet.

    Any advise be gratefully received.

    Cheers
    Evs

    1. get my team 0.1 and I'll give you all the advice you want

    2. same as me evs. looks like you will have to reluctantly let ozil go if he is out which seems the most likely case.

your options are limited too. maybe yaya casual toure

    3. I like this team. Ozil to Nasri or Yaya? Would you need to take a hit?

      1. Nasri's big weeks have come with Silva out.

    4. Liverpool have 3 great fixtures, and I think they'll want to wreck a few teams after the frustration of Man City and Chelsea.

For your consideration for a -4:

Ozil -> Sterling / Gerrard (supposedly back on New Years Day) / Henderson / Coutinho

I put them in order of who I like.

    5. Looks like a hit needed for sure Evs. You may end up with no bench and having to play those 5 at the back which isn't ideal obviously. Ozil to Lallana maybe? Pretty good fixtures for a good while considering the only tough games are all at home?

      1. Aren't Chelsea playing Southampton ? Lallana

        1. Yeah, at home. It's not like he can't score against the bigger sides.

    6. I think wenger is giving ozil a break so don't count on him playing against the bluebirds

This week I'm looking to bring in Santi and Kos ....

  4. kept ozil all this time and even took his price falls. had to take the plunge last night and do:

    ozil >> hazard.

right before cardiff at home. life sucks :(

    1. I did exact same.

      I also did Oscar>Silva last week :(

  5. Need to change keeper this week...

    Harper Lewis*
    Mertesacker Coleman Chester Gabbidon
    Silva Hazard Cabaye Walcott JWP
    Suarez Rooney Negredo

Pick one for the next four gameweeks, 5.0mil or below:

    GK:
    A) Mannone - 4.4 mil (Good fixtures)
    B) Ruddy - 4.9 mil (Good fixtures)
    C) Marshall - 4.7 mil (Horrible fixtures)
    D) Speroni - 4.5 mil (Good fixtures and three home fixtures though I have Gabbidon)
    E) McGregor 4.5 mil (Average fixtures though I have Chester)

    1. Mannone

  6. Could a potential FA Cup reply for a PL team cause a DGW in January? or are there enough free days in Jan to schedule replays?

    1. Very unlikely. Could cause missing fixtures, the dgw would be later.

  7. Dang, Jagielka out for a month. Any news on Ivanovic yet? Eyeing up Cashley as a punt

  8. Last Man Standing Update

    Safety score is 43.

    37 knocked out, 306 left.

Last week of bottom 30 or equal then it goes to bottom 20 or equal from GW21.

    1. I'm still alive!

      1. it's not that hard yet tbh. :D

    2. How many was there to begin with TM?

  9. Just noticed Adebayor is 7.7! thought he was 8.5+ .. surely worth a punt even with manu away.. it's not like manchester are defending well really

  10. Who would you rather keep in your team: Brunt or Whittingham

  11. New Post
  12. Superstitious much... :-)
Cardiff owner Vincent Tan has informed the club's board that he prefers them to buy players with the number eight in their birth date.

  13. What are everyone's thoughts on Vidic being a good option? At 5.8 he's amazing value, I just worry about his fitness and game time

    1. I've been there and am a United fan. Avoid. Evans and Evra both better picks.

    2. injury prone

  14. Good morning! Got a defence of Coleman (stk), Gabbidon (NOR), Lovren (CHE), with a bench of Williams (MCI), Turner (ars).

Shipping out Williams gives me 5.1 - time for Nastasic (swa), Debuchy (wba), or Evans (TOT)?

    1. I wouldn't say it's worth a transfer this week. The starting three look fine, Lovren at home to Chelsea is a solid enough option. I'm gonna be starting Williams out of necessity.

      1. Thanks. It would be a hit, too. Just don't wanna miss out on any rises that take them beyond reach

  15. Well, I've been playing around with some WC possibilities and I don't think I can have:

    Wally-Silva-Haz
    Suarez-Aguero-Rooney

Without having a terrible, terrible 4th mid or an abysmal defence. And since my last remaining* article of faith about the game is that the better teams tighten up in the second half of the season, I'd rather not economise there.

Who leaves the Sexy Six though?

    1. Can't see Silva being explosive enough to warrant essential status. He's had a good year by his standards and still isn't near Aguero or Yaya V2.0.

    2. Rooney for me - there's plenty of decent scoring strikers between 6.5 and 9.0 if you manage it well

  16. Whats the best strategy to play the jan WC.
    A. Do it right after 1st Jan?
    B. Wait till the last gameweek?
