The Community Round Up

Injuries have ripped apart the “template” teams in the last week or so, creating a variety of discussions in the community, which chew over potential replacements. With the January wildcard beckoning, our focus on the week’s hot topics revisit chat on the options in midfield and goalkeeper rotation pairings. In addition, a late entry from today’s activity took a wry look at the some of the characters that make up the Fantasy Football Scout community. As usual, we round things off with a check on the latest from our community leagues, congratulating an FA Cup winner along the way.

The Hottest Topics

Aaron Ramsey’s injury at Upton Park looks to have put the Welsh wonder out of the picture, causing much consternation and deliberation amongst his army of owners. From the community reaction it’s clear that some will gamble on clinging on to avoid the cash loss, but for others the setback meant he was shown the door. Among those on hand to offer advice on a sensible Ramsey exit strategy was @ocprodigy with the in-form Theo Walcott and Yohan Cabaye cited as ready-made replacments.

Even before Ramsey’s injury, the community was considering a dramatic ditching of his services. Earlier in the week TW asked whether now was the best time for Fantasy managers to cash in on Ramsey’s price rise and look elsewhere.

Those considering a downgrade to liberate funds could find some timely advice via a consideration of budget midfield options with Floydy_Floyd tipping Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling to prosper in 2014. PTC meanwhile has his eye on the assist potential of Barry Bannan as the Pulis-inspired Palace revival goes through the gears.

It wasn’t just gaps in midfield that were opening up over Christmas. Romelu Lukaku may have finally broken out of his dry spell with the winner over Southampton today but, having gone five starts without a goal before today’s fixture, there was plenty of fidgeting amongst his owners in the community. In the Lukaku debate , Marr pointed to form over fixtures, while SkyCell, perhaps wisely, gave the Belgian the next three outings to prove his worth. Maybe today’s goal has changed the landscape, although almost 100,000 shed his services before yesterday’s deadline.

Elsewhere, Nice to Finally Michu gazed into 2014 to assess the best goalkeeper pairings on offer. His excellent post looks at the best placed pairs over the next ten Gameweeks, with Sunderland’s Vito Mannone and the Gunners Wojciech Szczesny among the standout options on offer.

Finally, JDoyles profiling of some of the FFS community “characters” hoovered up votes and raised smiles aplenty as Gameweek 19 drew to a close. Are you amongst the poster personality types in his breakdown?

The Community Tournaments

FFS UEFA’s FA Cup competition has been one of the community’s largest to date. Finally a winner has emerged with Fantasy Football Scout community moderator Ryan’s Tranmere Rovers beating Fantasy Kid’s Luton Town in a nail-biting conclusion. There was further joy amongst our moderator team, with Evs being crowned champion in FFS UEFA’s Premier League H2H competition.

HeelsOverHead’s Worst to First 2 Million Club, for teams with an overall rank below 2,000,000 in the first five game weeks, now has 19 teams within a rank of one million and seven in the top 250,000. With an overall rank of 70,106 Teltzham Hotspurs is in the lead.

Also if ur lookin at my linked team it's some randomers I came 3k last year just all my rivals in the money league come on here now and I'd be sick if they saw me asking for advice!! 🙂

I think gerrard "may" return against hull and if he does come in, it will be for Joe Allen who still needs to be assessed on his injury. Henderson also had an issue with injury so I highly doubt sterling will be affected when gerrard returns. Maybe when sturridge is back.

Those who are worried Sterling will lose his place soon:

    1) Don't be surprised if Gerrard doesn't return before the Merseyside derby. This should not affect Sterling, Allen will drop out.

    2) Sturridge I expect will be targeting the Arsenal game in GW25, giving Sterling 5 fixtures without complication.

    3) Against City, Sterling was retained for 90 mins whilst Coutinho was subbed, he is key at the minute.

Thanks Bowie, how I see it as well, though I am sure sometimes it will be sterling dragged for Moses over coutinho but hey sterling is 5.1m starting practically up front for free scoring Liverpool and linking up well with the deadliest premier league player since Ronaldo, so seems like a decent option

good analysis. I have Whittingham who rotates well with Sterling for a while, thrn, if ki proves himself in the coming weeks the whitts/ki rotation is off the charts, absolutely insane.

so hazard/silva/Walcott + 2 rotating 5mils will let you have 2 big 1 med up front or SAR and budget defence

No need to panic after one red arrow. I'd prob save in your position and play erikson at OT,but the clyne to ward advice was decent as well

Longer term maybe with your WC a bit more love for your defence would not go amiss, funded by having at least 1 £5m MF who you bench most weeks. Cabaye and Erik are not priced and are too good to be rotating mids imo

United, City, Sun and Whu have to play 2 games (FA Cup & C1C SFs) between GW20 and GW21, while other clubs all play one game. This again happens between GW22 and GW23, except clubs eliminated from FA Cup won't have any game.

For those looking to plan, GW21 and GW23 might be the best week to WC, as I'd expect a couple of knocks and niggles here and there.

Thanks for the insight. I'm planning to wait till GW 23 anyway.

    Howard
    Coleman - Ollson - Ward
    Hazard - Walcott - Yaya - Morrisson
    Suarez - Rooney - Lukaku

(Boruc - Wilson, Hernandez - Chiriches)
    .5 in the bank.

Will I do Morrisson -> Sterling for his three nice fixtures?

      Maybe 1 ''s'' in Morrison?
      That looks better.

Sturridge might only make it one nice one.

I have Sterling and may have to bench him later.

        Hmm, a pity.
The guy has been doing quite well.. really impressed me vs City at times.

Is this team strong enough for a green arrow without Silva or is a hit required? Any advice really appreciated.

    Mannone
Kos, Distin, Ward, Martin Olsson (Chester)
    Wally, Cabaye, Haz (Silva, Lucas)
    Rooney, Suarez (C), Negredo

Why on earth would you have Lucas?

I still don't know, had him in from gw 1 cause I wanted bench fodder and wasn't sure who to have. Thankfully he's only made my team twice, a 3 pointer and a wonderful 1 pointer.

If everyone plays it's strong enough, but with rest and rotation becoming an issue I'd swap Silva out to ensure you can field 11.

I really want Hazard in my team, (regret switching hazard for oscar ages ago when hazard was going for same as oscar at 9.1m) is it possible to get him in the team or should it wait for wc

unless you want to lose yaya, it's going to be big pts hit to rej-juggle, so I'd wait.

Only way i can see you getting in Hazard is by doing

      Yaya ---> Hazard
      Williamson ----> Ward

And then getting some city coverage in the following GW's or Jan wildcard

This comment is also posted below, sorry

Planning to use my WC when Aguero will be fit. Doesn't this just look lovely?

    Boruc Davis
    Coleman Terry Koscielny Burner Ward
    Walcott Hazard Silva Mutch Delph
    Suarez Aguero Lukaku

looks good, i'll be doing something similar -

      Mannone Szczesny
      Coleman Mertesacker Evans Chester Ward
      Walcott Hazard Silva Mutch Livermore
      Suarez Aguero Lukaku

If i opt for a cheaper keeper than Szczesny I could upgrade Livermore, not too sure who I'd get instead though and plan on playing 4-3-3 most of the time anyway...

my personal preferance is to have either SAR or 4 big mids.
your team has a nice balance though

so my wildcard draft comes down to :

haz wally yaya silva haz wally yaya sterling (or another cheapie)
    vs
rooney saurez lukaku rooney saurez aguero

this is obviously when aguero is back as i plan to use my wildcard towards the end of jan.
also if you think the team with sterling in is better should i just tranfer him in now with my ft to give me a better 11 this week? having to play jwp with silva out.
    thanks for any thoughts
