Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Seventh Round Draw

We’ve reached the Seventh Round of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, as sponsored by Paddy Power, after 16 more teams were eliminated in the previous batch of matches. As we cast an eye over the weekend’s results and look to the next round, those still in with a shout should note that the upcoming fixtures will be played out over Gameweek 21 – the 10 fixtures on New Year’s Day do not count towards your points hauls:

Site regular Tony Hibberts Love Child squeezed into the last 16 by a one-point margin. Having won his tie 60-59, he now sits in 268th overall up – the highest-ranked manager remaining in the draw – and is up against Tdubb05 for a place in the Quarter-Finals.

Site moderator applebonkers is still in with a shout of snapping up the silverware. A 63 point-haul was enough to see him through last time around and earn him a spot against sim716 when the cup resumes in Gameweek 21.

The 2ndMan deserves a mention here. A tally of 72 points was higher than any other manager over the last round and sees him square up to 11 Men in Flight in the next round. Yes the Sess! racked up 71 points – the second-highest haul of Round 6 – and will now face FPLAaron, who, with an overall position of 464,000, is the rank outsider for the tournament.

Finally, Tal was the lowest-scoring manager to earn a spot in the next round after registering 54 points in Gameweek 19 – he now goes head-to-head with EricCantona_707.

If you want a full update on how the ties played out in the previous round, click here. Otherwise, click here for the Seventh Round details.

As always, we wish good luck to the final 16 as they brace themselves for battle!

    Quick one.

    a) Zabaleta or Cabaye
    b) Burner Bardsley rotation in 4-3-3 or Bardsley Whits rotation in 3-4-3/4-3-3?
    c) Silva Lukaku or Cabaye Rooney?

    Cheers

Is there a 'thoeretical' best week to play the WC or does it totally depend on the individual team.

Also what are the major likely January signings that people feel will make an FPL impact?

I would put it this way.
If you feel your team needs a huge overhaul WC early. If you are happy with your team and dont have much transfer plans do it late.

Also, posted this in DZ. There was an interesting argument and Walcott (c) was picking up steam.
Just gonna copaste it real quick before I head off for New Years party. Woohoo..

    SUAREZ VS WALCOTT Captaincy

    [Ownership]
    Suarez: 50.8%
    Walcott: 11.8%

Most people will definitely captain Suarez this week and Walcott ownership is not low enough to be considered as a differential anymore, so going Walcott (c) can be a huge payoff.

    [Recent Form]
    Suarez: 44 points in last 4 & 83 points in last 6.
    Walcott: 36 points in last 4 & 41 points in last 6.

Last 6 isn't really relevant because Walcott only played ~40 minutes there, but the figure shows how explosive Suarez is. And despite his blanks, he still outscores Walcott in the 4 games

    [Home vs Away Form]
    Suarez: 14 goals 2 assist in 6 home matches | 5 goals 3 assist in 8 away
    Walcott: 3 goals 1 assist in 4 home matches* | 4 goals 2 assist in 5 away

*I removed his 2 home games where he only played 20 minutes and blanks

Suarez is definitely a home player. Should score big when playing at Anfield.

    [Flat Track Bully Factor]
    Suarez (7 games): 15 goals 7 assists vs bottom 10 | 3 goals 7 assists vs top 10
    Walcott (6 games): 2 goals 3 assists vs bottom 10 | 2 goals 2 assists vs top 10

Suarez flat track bully clearly. Walcott somewhat relishes big games.

    [Involvement]
Suarez: Have 75% Involvement in the team's goals when he starts (30 G/A in 40 team goals)
Walcott: Have 47% Involvement in the team's goals when he starts (7 G/A in 15 team goals)

Both have pretty high involvement, but Suarez wins hands down. When Liverpool scores a goal, 75% it's gonna be Suarez.

    [Team Home Scoring Form]
Liverpool: Scored 19 goals in the last 6 & 25 goals in 9 at home
Arsenal: Scored 10 goals in the last 6 & 16 goals in 9 at home

Liverpool is scoring freely and especially at home. Almost 3 goals / game that's crazy high.

    [Opponent's Defensive Form]
Hull: Conceded 7 and 2 CS in last 6.
Cardiff: Conceded 10 and 2 CS in last 6.

Similar form, but Hull is a wee bit tighter.

    [Opponent's Away Form]
Hull: Conceded 17 with 0 CS in the last 9 away games (vs 6 CS in 10 games at home)
Cardiff: Conceded 15 with 2 CS in the last 9 away games (vs 3 CS in 10 games at home)

Hull can't defend away from home to save themselves.

    _________
    Conclusion:
Walcott is a very solid captaincy candidate for this week, especially for those looking to catch up with captain differential. He's explosive so he can score big vs a managerless Cardiff

But all stats points to Suarez.
His 2 blanks vs fortress-at-Etihad City and Jose-minded Chelsea only establishes his flat track bully status.
Only City has scored more at home other than Liverpool and Hull having the worst away record in EPL with 0 CS.
Suarez in the form of his live and always involves in the goals for Liverpool - it's an easy choice for Suarez captainers.

    Suarez (c).

He still managed an assist against what in my opinion is the strongest defence in the league, against City he was very dangerous too. At home to Hull, after no goals in two? I can't see a better option.

Walcott - Home - Cardiff is equally appealing.

Suarez blanked against Hull already, he's probably dog tired after two tough away fixtures and where will he get his service?

Interesting debate. I'm going Suarez but I wouldn't expect a high scoring game... Hull went to the Etihad with everyone expecting loads of goals but came away having conceded only 2. And don't forget Hull just beat Liverpool at the KC. I'm expecting 2-1 to Liverpool.

    DDG

    Coleman Shaw Kolarov

    Hazard Wally Janujaz Barkley

    Dzeko Rooney Suarez

    Bench: Harper, Silva, Clyne, Chico

Can I get away with just doing Kolarov > Kosc

Well Lukaku > Rooney last GW was one of the stupidest things I've ever done. It is rendered doubly annoying by the fact that I held off on getting him two weeks ago because of the doubts about his fitness. Bloody Moyes.

Now I'm stuck with the injured player until next week at least, can't see it being worth it to get rid.

In fact, team's a bit of a mess generally. I have 1 FT and £1.2m in the bank. Any thoughts?

I have reluctantly accepted that whilst I love Romelu, he hates me. I have bought him three times and sold him three times and every time I've sold him, he's scored.

But I think Rooney will be fine for Spurs. He said something on his Facebook page yesterday about just finishing training.

RavMo could be a concern but you couldn't ask for a better fixture for Bannan. Clyne ought to be back since he played a couple of minutes at the end of the last game so I don't think you're in as terrible shape as you think.

      Maybe Baker > Ward?

Thanks for the Rooney info! He'll outscore Romelu over the long-term so I've got to get over the 9 points it cost me last week.

Might save the FT but I've wanted a CPL defender for weeks. Will have to pull the trigger today as there's no telling what tomorrow morning will bring...

True, Kosc hogs baps after Mert but thought Sagna is pretty attacking with his high positioning, plus his crosses hv been pretty good. Sagna has won more Aerial duels than Kosc, plus he goes up for Set Pieces.

    Right...

    Navas or Nasri?

Nasri seems more nailed on (and didn't play full game last time out)

Navas less nailed on, more of an impact sub but had played 90mins I'm last two games.

    Thoughts?

I've a feeling Navas might end up coming off the bench in this one. 3 games in 7 days is a bit much for a slightly built winger.

That said, he normally does something when he comes on.

Chester, Silva, Vlaar 1FT 1.2 ITB

Planning to do Vlaar --> Debuchy then put Redmond first sub on the bench, and just bench Silva for a week. Even if Newcastle concede against WBA Debuchy still looks a great attacking threat. Sound good or would you recommend something else?
