PlayON Player Picks – Gameweek 21

After a previous weekend filled with FA Cup action, the Player Picks for our weekly Fantasy Football game return this Friday lunchtime. As always, we’re on the lookout for potential bargains in our assessment of this week’s PlayON Price List:

If you’re new to PlayON, read this season’s introduction article for more information. If you’re already a PlayON player, read on for our selection of this week’s targets…

Goalkeeper – Tim Howard
The Everton stopper is available for just 8.7m ahead of a very favourable home clash with Norwich on Saturday afternoon. Howard has already registered eight clean sheets this term and entertains a goal-shy Canaries side that have found the net just twice in the last four Gameweeks – with Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka and Sylvain Distin all in with a chance of returning, the Toffees looks a strong shout to pick up a first shut-out in six attempts. Cardiff’s David Marshall comes in even cheaper at 8.5m for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first league game at the helm – West Ham are the Bluebirds’ visitors this weekend and Sam Allardyce’s side have been far from prolific on the road, scoring seven times in 10 matches. Fulham’s home clash with Sunderland is also on our radar. Keep an eye on the injury news for this one – if first-choice stopper Maarten Stekelenburg (7.8m) fails to make it, David Stockdale, at 7.2m, will get the nod against a Black Cats side that have drawn blanks in three of the last five Gameweeks.

Defender – Danny Rose
Tottenham’s fit-again left-back will set you back a mere 7.7m this weekend for a home game against Crystal Palace. Rose’s forays down the flank should provide crosses aplenty for the home side’s in-form front two and, bearing in mind the Eagles have scored just twice in the last four Gameweeks, Tim Sherwood’s side will be optimistic of delivering a second successive shut-out at White Hart Lane. If you decide against a Fulham keeper, John Arne Riise costs just 7.9m for the visit of Sunderland. The Norwegian has started six of the last seven under Rene Meulensteen and his eye for goal is favoured by the PlayON Scoring Matrix. Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne is even cheaper, with a price tag of just 6.8m for a home clash against West Brom. The right-back is back to full fitness and, having grabbed a goal against Burnley in the FA Cup last weekend, will be confident of shaking off the competition from Callum Chambers for a starting berth against the Baggies.

Midfielder – Steven Gerrard
Finally free from a hamstring injury, the Liverpool skipper is set to make his first league start since Gameweek 15 this weekend as the Reds make their way to Stoke. Gerrard’s spell on the sidelines means he is priced at just 8.1m for the Britannia encounter and, having produced a goal or assist in nine of his last 10 starts, his attacking consistency makes him a superb value pick against Mark Hughes’ side on Sunday afternoon. The PlayON Price List also smiles kindly on Manchester City’s David Silva this week. Having served a one-match ban last time around, the Spaniard comes in at 8.9m for a trip to injury-hit Newcastle, whilst, on the other side of Manchester, Adnan Januzaj sets you back 8.8m for the visit of Swansea and has scored or assisted in three of his last four starts.

Forward – Clint Dempsey
Back at Craven Cottage on a two-month loan, the US international is handed the chance to make an immediate impact in his first home game against fellow-strugglers Sunderland. Dempsey is likely to be fielded on the left of midfield – a position which harvested 29 league goals over his final two seasons at Fulham and, priced at a bargain-basement 7.4m, he could prove a canny acquisition. Watch out for the injury news from Anfield, too – if Daniel Sturridge recovers in time from an ankle complaint, he also costs 7.4m for the trip to Stoke. For those who reckon Swansea can upset the odds at Old Trafford again, Wilfried Bony is on the market at 10.6m and has notched three times in two games against both Manchester clubs since the turn of the year.

How To Play

PlayON is weekly Fantasy Football for free or for cash, so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built (you can keep changing your team right up to two hours before the first kick-off – 10.45 on Saturday morning), you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of winning your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings.

Similarly, you can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 52% win rate up to this point.

The Fantasy Football Scout Game

We’ve also got a £2 multiplayer game, dedicated to our community, which is now open and the prize pot is building.

Challenge Your Mates

You can also set up your own multiplayer games with your mates to play for bragging rights only or for cash. Create your own game at www.playon.co.uk.

Finally, a reminder that we have published a strategy guide, offering some tips for getting the most from your PlayON lineup, right here.

You have to be over 18 to enter cash games at PlayON. If you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly. PlayON is licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission.

    What do you lads prefer?

A: Walcott > Oscar, bench Rooney and play Janujaz. Rooney > Aguero next week
    B: Walcott + Rooney > Lallana + Negredo (-4). Can do Negredo/Lukaku > Aguero next week.
    C: Walcott + Rooney > Ozil + Negredo (-4). Can't get Aguero next week.

Negredo this week isn't that important, especially for a -4. Januzaj is as good a prospect imo. Newcastle will still be tough to beat even with injuries.

Aguero very likely to be back. In full training. Wait til FA cup replay if poss. If he's out still, just get Negredo for Rooney.

This is tough, I hate the idea of getting someone in for -4 then shipping them next week.

I'd go B, with Lukaku making way.

The thing with B is that I am not 100% convinced on Lallana so not sure he warrants a 4 pointer whereas C has 2 top quality players, not just 1. Could get Oscar instead of Lallana and then do Negredo > Aguero next week. Not sure it's worth it though..

    Migs/Boruc
    Kosh/Coleman/Evans (Ward/Chester)
    Ozil/Silva/Hazard/Barkley (Sterling)
    Rooney/Suarez/Lukaku

Already did Wally>Ozil -4 so WC
Rooney > Negrado (becomes Aguero when fit)
    Sterling > Januzaj

Thought about going Mannone/Marshal but I nowhere to spend the cash and will score less points.

When I play my WC I'm tempted to say feck it, I'm leaving 1m in the bank so that whenever one of my players gets injured I can replace him with whoever I want in that bracket. 0.3 out on doing Rooney to Aguero right now.

As a Celtic fan I was saddened to see Wanyama leave as he is a monster of a player.

I am not surprised he has done so well at Southampton and without being disrespectful to Southampton, Wanyama is good enough to play for one of the top teams in England and whoever signs him will be a formidable force.

He is the new Viera and yes he is that good. I had the pleasure of seeing both these players break through in to the first team and Wanyama is every bit as good.

Really good to hear. I couldn't believe there weren't more clubs expressing serious interest in him. The complete midfield destroyer, lets the team dominate the middle. If anything he's far more unique than your ten-a-penny passing midfielders.

Him and Fraser Foster were the reason we did so well in Champions League last season.

Wanyama kept Xavi quiet in both games and stopped attack after attack. He did the same against Inter were he dominated midfield.

sorry for repeat, posts been lost on last page. currently got Sterling and Cabaye. Considering losing both and need 0.6 to get Negredo in. any ideas for best options?

    Is Mutch fit?
Worth going very cheap (like gnabry) and upgrading cabaye to eriksen?
maybe better just to keep lukaku instead of worrying about negredo??

on a WC, just not seeing great options for cheaper end mids

stuck at end of last page

Ok I didn't want to post this... but here is my current team
    Migs
    Mert Coleman Turner McCauley
    Livermore Barkley Ozil Hazard
    Suarez Adebayor

    Boruc Ramsey Rooney Gabbidon.

    Clear trouble at the moment.

Don't know who I want to keep and who to ship...

Do I play my WC, or take a -4 to get rid of rooney --> Neg/Giroud/Lukaku this week

then gonna do the standard Aguero in next week with the wild card most likely.

    Thanks!

The problem of getting rid of Rooney in your WC is he will probably be back next week with a double digit score and you won't be able to buy him back without taking a 8 point hit.

If you have decent coverage up front you should keep him. I've got Suarez, Rooney, Negredo so can afford another no show from Rooney.

Rooney has been sent away to a warmer climate to do some fitness work to sort his groin.

This, combined with his ridiculous holding midfield positioning lately, means I am happy to gamble on him being sub par for a while at best.

Why isn't anyone considering Giroud instead of Negredo before Aguero get's back?

Lets say Aguero isn't back for 2 weeks (I doubt he starts vs. Cardiff) - Giroud has Villa away (maybe the best match up in the league other than West Ham right now) and then home to Fulham

Man City are relentless. If they go 3 or 4 nil up, they keep attacking and want more. I'm not sure the same can be said of Arsenal (and Giroud would probably be taken off in such a circumstance to protect him, as he's their only fit striker).

He's my first choice at the moment. He's gone on a bit of a dry run, but check out his opponents in those matches where he's blanked. Chelsea, City, Everton, Cardiff away.

Looks a good bet for the next few weeks.

There have been no double rises in this entire WC week, except Lallana, who will rise tonight for the second time.

Bad for those who WC-ed this week to catch the price rises.

this was not the week to WC if you wanted price rises.

This was the week if you needed to repair an injury hit team.

There normally isn't when there's a 10 day gap. I've noticed the most double rises occur when there's 2-3 days between gameweeks, simply because over a 10 day period (esp with cup fixtures), people normally do transfers just after the gameweek, and just before the new gameweek. Generally wouldn't make transfers in between for injury worries.

Doesn't matter about price rises anyway tbh, the most important factor is being able to build the team you want. People normally make what, 0.3 max? It could make a difference if you're just about short, but it won't help you buy a premium mid/striker normally.

2.0 in the bank... Not enough for Aguero but I'm happy with Giroud/Ade for the next 4 games at least and can always have a move around nearer then to get the extra cash for Aguero?
