The Weekend Team News

Arsenal are missing a trio of players for the visit of Fulham. Swansea’s injury troubles ease. Sylvain Distin returns for Everton. Joe Allen is back for Liverpool. John Guidetti is in Stoke’s squad to face Palace. Nathan Baker is ruled out for Villa, whilst James Collins may be fit for West Ham’s home clash against Newcastle:

Aaron Ramsey is still ruled out for Arsenal’s clash with Fulham and is joined on the sidelines by Thomas Vermaelen and Mikel Arteta, but Arsene Wenger expects the two midfielders to return for the Gameweek 23 trip to Southampton. Nacho Monreal and Tomas Rosicky are set for late tests, though the Gunners boss thinks ”both of them will be alright”.

Sylvain Distin has returned to training for Everton and could figure against West Brom on Monday evening. The Everton squad flew out for warm weather training in Tenerife and Roberto Martinez revealed new boy Aidan McGeady “looks sharp” as he continues to build up his match fitness.

Rene Meulensteen has confirmed that Fernando Amorebieta is Fulham’s only doubt as they prepare to take on Arsenal. The defender picked up a knee ligament problem in training and will need to be assessed.

West Ham are ”hopeful” James Collins will return from a calf injury for the home game against Newcastle. Ravel Morrison also confirmed to the club’s official website he has been working hard to get back to full fitness following a groin injury.

Chris Hughton gave an injury update on Thursday revealing that winger Anthony Pilkington and central midfielder Alex Tettey have both returned from injury lay-offs. The duo will be in the squad for Norwich’s clash with Hull this weekend.

Aston Villa will be without Nathan Baker for the trip to Anfield this weekend. The defender was stretchered off with concussion against Arsenal on Monday, with Paul Lambert revealing “he’s still feeling a bit groggy with a bit of a sore head”.

Brendan Rodgers reveals that Joe Allen has returned to training following an abductor problem and could figure against Aston Villa. The Liverpool boss also intends to check on the fitness of Mamadou Sakho, who has missed the last couple games with a hamstring issue.

Thomas Sorensen is back for Stoke but will have to accept a role on the bench, with Jack Butland a confirmed starter for the trip to Palace. Loan signing John Guidetti is also in the squad, though Robert Huth and Andy Wilkinson remain sidelined along with Asmir Begovic.

Swansea delivered positive news on the fitness of wingers Nathan Dyer, Pablo Hernandez and Roland Lamah ahead of the visit of Tottenham Hotspur. Roland Lamah is expected to return to the Swansea squad to face Spurs this weekend, whilst Pablo Hernandez and Nathan Dyer and Dwight Tiendalli are all in with a chance of shaking off injuries. Jonathan De Guzman remains sidelined with an ankle problem. Michel Vorm should return to training next week after minor knee surgery and Jose Canas awaits further scans on the ankle injury that forced him off at United.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Assuming you've not wildcarded, and thus will do in the next two weeks, that can't be a bad idea. Everton play Liverpool next week (creaky defence but completely unpredictable fixture).

Depends if you need Kolarov to get out a good defence. If you have a decent team you are happy with and Faye is 3rd sub then Silva definitely the way to go imo (especially if you want him in your WC team as then you can get him early and avoid any price rises to end of Jan.

Kolarov is explosive but hasn't played many home game - would surprise but not shock me to see Clichy start.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

    More complex fantasy games

This one's from Mark. He asks: "Do you like games that allow fantasy managers to change captains or their lineups within the gameweek over several days worth of fixtures.

"In my experience, it's not long into the season or tournament that I forget to tinker, which can often be very disheartening. As a rule, do folk avoid such games or do they always back themselves to be hands on and exploit this kind of feature?"

No, it's too much commitment to be online at certain times. FPL gives you more flexibility and I like the idea hat you set your team and then it's locked down and everyone is "equal"

I'm a one game man currently, was briefly tempted to dabble with the Metro game this year as yourself and In Like Flynn both seem to rate it highly but I'm glad I didn't - struggling to keep one team on an even keel at the moment. Maybe next year.

I simply don't have the time to succeed in games which require more effort than FPL so I ignore them. Maybe when I retire 🙂

Metro is minimal effort like FPL though, as in you make your team for the week and that's it.

Sky though with inter week changes is where it gets tricky to maintain.

I did like the Euros one where you could change captains. That worked really well - was a good addition to the game.

Yeah, as Sporting says above, a brief summer dalliance with a complicated game is fine, a full on relationship is too much for me.

I think I'd like to give the Metro game a go, I'll be badgering you and Flynn for tips in the summer 🙂

Have to say, it is quite stupid fantasy football game, still playing it though. But the worst of the bunch is the EL fantasy, because good 80% of teams rotate their XI to every single match, so it's really a question of luck: one round you reap amazing 8 points with only 3 players appearing whole GW, and another your third striker who hasn't played whole season suddenly scores a hatty without a warning. EL being so unimportant tournament for most clubs totally destroys any chances to reasonable fantasy football.

It makes the game playable to less people and the amount of 'dead teams' significantly higher.
As a player of NFL (draft system) and AFL (league system with no overall rank significance), the FPL game is clearly the best formatted fantasy game. If anything could do with a tweak it would be the pricing.

The best way to improve FPL would be that you don't receive the price rise benefit of a player until you have played him, and then you would receive it all rather than half.
This would limit bandwagons while rewarding players who can predict breakouts (would also help us knee jerkers from pulling the trigger on sunday morning to 'catch the rise' only for them to get injured in a midweek cup game) 😉

Generally, I like the hands-on approach, but a whole season of hands-on management of a FPL team that plays on a weekly basis is for people with no life only. Sorry if I hurt anybody's feelings, but we would have to quit our jobs to even come close to winning anything in that, which means that there should be significant money prices in the overall season for more people than just the winner. Which I can't see happening.

FPL is my true love, but occasionally I do stray, have a work league which is SKY, an american style draft league on Fantrax and every World/European cup I play a Swedish version with some friends - but I alway come back to her 🙂

I can't really get into the SKY game to be honest, and I lasted less than a season in the CL game as well, too much tinkering and I just feel that you fall too much behind if you don't stay on top of it, FPL's got a good balance in my humble opionion.

The problem really is this: it means that to win, you are tied to your computer for most weekends all year long. Most of us would simply stop playing, or arrange minileagues with "no hands-on management" -rule.

I think the captain feature should be removed entirely......too much luck...

I'd also add that if a player wins a penalty for his team, this should be one point, upgraded to the full 3 assist points if it is converted.

Too much luck with captain choices, pointless and detracts from skill in my opinion.....

Captains add much luck and variance to the game so multiple game weeks captains just bring more. A game without captains is more skilful.

BUT, we have to accept Mark + Granville have lives outside of FPL (I think 😉 ) and missing the odd Scoutcast every few weeks isn't the end of the world. They spend hours every week making this site as good as it is, so let's give them a break and allow them to attend to more important stuff in their lives.

It's not that easy - the Skype recording and edit can take up to three hours. A few years back I wouldn't have thought twice about that - these days I have to manage my time a lot more carefully.

Before GW23 starts, you can see all the teamsheets.

(Teamsheets online at 18.45. Deadline closes at 19.30)

So you can choose two cheeky punts who are guaranteed to start.

Well if you've wildcarded then I would do whatever is necessary so that you can get Aguero in next week without taking massive points hits.

Negredo is fine this GW but if you do Ade - Sturridge and it means you can't do Negredo - Aguero next week then don't.

I can downgrade Ozil to Ramsey next week and get Aguero...my team is

            Mannone
            Coleman / Mert / Clyne
            Hazard / Ozil / Silva / Lallana
            Suarez / Ade / Negredo
            (Marshall / Ward / Chester / Parker)

              Looks good then.

Personal view? Leave Ade in and then do Ozil and Negredo to Ramsey and Aguero for free next week.

If you tie yourself to -4 next week already with an unnecessary transfer, what if, say, Silva picks up another knock at the weekend. Then you're looking at -8 just to get out a proper team of big hitters.

Looks very very good - that's why I think you don't need to tinker. Spurs are good away and Ade was in the points at both Southampton and United, no need to make that change and your overall XI and first sub are very strong.

I think its a good move. ONLY if you haven't used your wild card as you're sure to want him out of there asap.

    Hello guys,

I'm on a wildcard now, and besides doing obvious transfers as getting Aguero and Boruc, I am thinking of doing Yaya & Koscielny OUT - Navas & Baines IN. What do you think?

With Nasri out Navas should get more minutes and he's quite productive...

Lads who to play I need help. Have Mannone already so Bardsley or Wardinjo?

If I play Wardinjo and spread the risk I am afraid if Bard score on my bench. He is such a goal threat. Thoughts?

So is Ward. I just don't like doubling up in defence, especially with a team like Sunderland.

The article lays out the team news that has already come in over the last few days and this morning and there is quite a lot of it. But it also serves to flag up our team news page. That page (see tab on homepage) is where throughout the day we will be constantly updating team news and line ups as it comes in.

This way we are are among the first for team news rather than the last.

Good argument, I keep an eye on the twitter feed, never look at the team news page, have always presumed it's in the twiiter feed column in the middle of the home page.

I have enough for lallana-> Johnson which affords me lukaku->aguero. With 0.0 left!
    My team would be:
    Szezcsny Davies
    Gabbidon Coleman burner brown baker
    Huddlestone Yaya hazard Ozil Johnson
    Suarez Negredo Aguero

Is this overkill or should I do it???
