Gameweek 28 Manchester Derby Set to Be Rescheduled

This evening the inevitable has now been confirmed. Following Manchester City’s 9-0 aggregate victory over West Ham in the Capital One Cup, Fantasy managers are facing up to the prospect of a blank Gameweek 28 for Manuel Pellegrini’s side – the knock-on effect, of course, means we will also have a double Gameweek to consider at some point:

With City now making their way to Wembley on Sunday March 2, their currently-scheduled short hop across town to Old Trafford will be postponed and take place on an, as yet, unconfirmed date. As a result, neither Manchester side will have a fixture in Gameweek 28, meaning Fantasy managers will need to plan accordingly.

As both sides are still competing in the Champions League (and given UEFA are really dragging out the first knock-out round of the competition), there really is very little room for manoeuvre in terms of rescheduling – unless, of course, both are eliminated. At present, there are very few entirely open slots to add in an extra game (there are a couple in April and May, should the fixture planners be overly patient but these should really be “saved” for potential further upheaval).

As best as we can tell, then, there are two possible midweek slots available for this game to take place before the end of March.

Wednesday February 5 (ie, Gameweek 25) is a possibility, though a number of factors weigh against this. Given that it is so soon for such a high-profile game (in terms of policing, promotion and broadcasting rights) and that City’s Gameweek 24 home clash with Chelsea is set to take place just two days before, on Monday February 3, we reckon this is an unlikely scenario. Furthermore, that midweek period is also set aside for FA Cup replays, should City unexpectedly fail to beat Watford at the first time of asking next weekend.

If the Hornets spring a surprise and and knock Pellegrini’s side out of the cup next Saturday, the United game would almost certainly be re-arranged for the weekend of February 15-16 (ie, Gameweek 26). Somehow, though, we just don’t see that happening.

Therefore, it would seem that the likeliest date for the rescheduled Manchester derby will be Tuesday 25th or Wednesday 26th March (GW31). This scenario would give City (FUL, mun) and United (whm, MCI) for the chance to rack up the Fantasy returns but these dates, once again, are reserved for an FA Cup replay and are subject to City’s progress in the competition – basically, then, there’s still no 100% guarantee.

In layman’s terms: Manchester United versus Manchester City (GW28) will now be postponed to another Gameweek TBC. It’s most likely to occur in GW31 but this is only a guess from folks who pay close attention to the fixtures and far from a certainty. We will share an official date of the rescheduled fixture as soon as one of the clubs involved disseminate the information to us.

Beyond this fixture, United are set to finish their own Capital One Cup tie tomorrow evening at home to Sunderland. If David Moyes’ side turn their fortunes around and win there will be no further upheaval but further fixture changes would be afoot if the Wearsiders hold onto their lead as Sunderland’s Gameweek 28 clash with West Brom would be postponed.

Seeing as neither side is competing in Europe, this game could be rescheduled to pretty much any Gameweek going forward – aside from midweek Gameweek 28, due to international friendlies. We will, of course, issue an update as soon as we find out.

One thing is certain, though. Blank and double Gameweeks have returned and those who play the closest attention could have a really great advantage over their rivals as the battle for mini-league superiority heats up. As always, we’ll keep you up to date when we know more.

I would rather use them in a 4-2-2-2 or 4-4-2 diamond, perhaps a dynamic version changing between the two. I posted that yesterday.

Sure they can. If they get enough encouragement from the manager. City do it with Aguero, Negredo, Silva and Nasri. But they'll need to score enough goals coz they'll be defensively compromised.

I think there's a risk, especially with CL rotation.

Cahill is closest to first choice but Luiz has played CB 5 times in the PL and twice in the CL (as far as I can tell). If Luiz stays, I think he'll always be a small threat to Cahill's place.

Well, Matic's arrival probably puts paid to Luiz as a DM so he's more of a rival to Cahill now. Still think Cahill will play more but I wouldn't want to be reliant on him.

    First WC draft, thoughts?

    Boruc/Marshall
    Mert/Coleman/MOlsson/Ward/4.4

Vlaar for your 4.4, not sure how he rotates with MOlsson and Ward though. Get AJ while he's on his hot streak. Ramsey's return keeps getting pushed out and it could be a bit after that when/if he hits his great form.

      You WC-ing this GW?

This is pretty much the same sort of setup I'm going for. I like Ramsey over AJ. Maybe Bardsley for the last spot? Or Chester if he's fit. I think I'd go Kos over Mert and pocket the change.

You obviously seem set on Ade, I'm liking Sturridge, he's basically been scoring non-stop since he joined LFC.

Yeah, activated the other day not to lose out on Aguero's price. When's Ramsey expected back? Bardsley is great, how much is he?
Bought Mert at 5.5 so might as well keep, don't you agree?

Can't find 1.5 to upgrade Ade to Studge, and feels good to spread the love 😉

Ah Bardsley might 4.5M, I got him at 4.4M so I didn't see it.

I bough Mert at 5.5M and I'm considering selling. BAPS and goal threat is so close and a bit random (Kos got 2 this GW, Mert 1), not sure it's worth the 0.4M premium. Considering downgrading JT & Mert -> Kos & Azp. Depends how much money I need up front. WC-ing next GW.

Ade is gold when on a hot-streak I guess, and he seems to be on one now. Sturridge feels safe, but a bit boring and expensive.

Could downgrade Olsson to 4.1 or a cheaper GK for Marshall to afford Bardsley, could be a good move. Kosc 0.4 cheaper, that much? Hmm.. Gives me some options. Bought Ade two GW's back, been delivering so far so feels stupid to sell, could give him a few more games. True about Ramsey, AJ for the next three?

Yeah AJ looks like the man in form and frees up some cash. Watch out for more Cabaye transfer news. If you need more cash, I'd still downgrade Kos instead of Olsson or Marshall, those are down to their bare bones already IMO.

You can also play with the idea of Silva instead of Yaya, another way to free up some cash. That's what I'm doing, but it's against the best advice of sir Evs who says Yaya is now essential the way he's playing. So I'm a bit afraid of going without :X If you can afford, probably best to stick with him.

Thought of it, but Yaya has been great the two weeks I've had him. Could be a way to free up some cash if my WC team fail, but looks like I'm keeping. Evs said that? Well, he's pretty much right I think!

          £112.6m after the transfers.
I like your front 8, you have the best premium players and the most on form players along with a range of prices so that you can transfer anyone who starts doing well. Johnson will probably need upgrading in three weeks time.

So my front eight looks like this atm:

    Hazard - Silva - Yaya - Cabaye - A. Johnson
    Suarez - Aguero - Adebayor

Johnson seems surplus to requirements as all the others have proven fixture proof and aren't likely to get benched. Maybe I'd rather downgrade Johnson for Pozuelo and upgrade a defender.

Anyone else in the same situation? Which premium defender seems a good pick atm?

So if Coleman is out for a while, who replaces him in the Everton backline? A lot of chat on forums seems to point to Stones having a run in the team.

At 4.2 could be a nice cheap route to Everton defence...

    Some bad wagons:

    1. Mannone. A new GK just brought in might take his place within a few GW's. You don't want to get to change your GK for that.

    2. Cabaye. Everybody talks about Newcastle's great fixtures, and sure, from GW 26 on they have them. But next GW is 23. GW's 24-25 are less than promising. Why not to get Cabaye for GW 26, seen that he is still playing in the league?

    3. Williamson. See no. 2.

    4. Gabbidon. The most expensive of Palace defenders, who still have 2 strong fixtures in three, after that you will never play him.

    5. Wilshere. Yes he has scored recently, but look at his history: he can't shoot, nor does he do that very much. Too expensive to bench, too little attacking return to be played. I would see the point of keeping him for the Fulham match and selling after, but that match was last GW.

    6. Gerrard. Yes, he has the penalties, but Lucas injured he will play lowest midfield position. So, are you going to rely on his penalties only for points? You pay almost £9M in FPL for a player who basically just has penalties. There are others who take penalties and who cost you less.

    7. Azpi. Going to be rotated with Cole and Ivanovic. Suppose he is preferred to Cole. That means he will play the big matches. Which means he is unlikely to play the matches in which you would line him up for your FPL team.

8.-n. There are others, go and list them.

Okay, some of these are hardly wagons, but popular choices in wildcard.

Oh, no. 8. is of course Marshall. Look at that defensive record! Why does anybody want a 4.7 priced GK from a team that can't keep a clean sheet if their lives depend on that? If that's your rotation option, then just don't rotate.

1 - Mannone likely to keep his place after what I've heard
2 - Had Cabaye since GW 18, why sell now.
3 - Cheap, been good this year.
      4 - Baps, though I prefer Ward.
5 - Pretty much agree, but if you want an Ars mid and can't afford Ozil/Caz, with Ramsey out there's not many to chose from.
      6 - Agree, he'll produce points but I won't be buying.
7 - Looks like a great pick to me.

        1. Wait and see is what I would advice. There are other GK's around and they are not buying a new GK for nothing.

        2. Obviously, if you got Cabaye for a cheap price, it is worth keeping him now. But there are tens of thousands who are just buying him now that he is going to face che and TOT in next 4. Yeah, I have to correct, his fixtures are good from GW27 on, 25-26 are awful, before that there's the derby that's not easy either, but I can see goal potential there. This rounds match ain't amazing either. Many think Norwich is easy and will concede. But they are different team at home and away. In 11 home matches, they have only conceded 11. In 11 away matches, 24. It's in those away matches that they have earned their reputation as an appealing FPL opponent.

        3. Still, if you're getting him, why now, why not GW27. Others have better fixtures before it. You need that cs to get points from him. You won't be getting it before GW27.

        4. Baps only with cs.

        5. Are you sure you need Arse midfield?

        7. Why does he? He might miss just the matches you wish him to play. Risky. I would 't take risks with expensive defenders. They are ones I need to provide me points reguralry. If they don't do that, I can as well save 1.5 in TV by taking some cheapie with guaranteed starting spot. Or more by picking someone just priced below 4.0.

not sure what you're talking about regarding newcastles fixtures GW 23 against a pants norwich and 24 home to sunderland. chelsea away is the only tough fixture short term(GW 25). Mou doesn't rotate his backline alot, azpi is first choice and a bargain. So long as ramsey is out, wilshere will contine to push forward and arsenal are top of the table facing a depleted soton and home to palce in the next two.

Yeah, I meant 25-26 bad for Newcastle, see above.. Still even the two first ain't best for scoring. Sunderland has only conceded 3 in last 5 away matches, and Norwich, as said concedes only an average of 1/match at home. Why not to buy Cabaye for GW27 if he still is in premier league and the good fixtures actually start?

Mou will rotate once CL starts again. He did that before, he'll do that again.

Ramsey already coming back and Arsenal has precisely 0 number of fit players constantly getting attacking return. Palace at home is not as exciting as many seem to think. Since Holloway left, Palace has conceded 6 goals in 7 away fixtures, including matches against City, Chelsea, and Tottenham. Sure, all those three teams were able to score a goal, City scoring precisely that. In addition, Pulis has always been difficult opponent to Wenger. Southampton still has a strong defensive record. You can't check it from members area, but for others:

        http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/4878/

It's not as if Arsenal was going to score loads in these matches, and Wilshere's goal involvement being quite low, it is not probable that he would actually get involved if Arsenal only scores 1-2/match.

      2. form rules

      3. solid budget option if you have the funds

      4. transfer him out after that then, but palace have shown good resilience especially at home under pulis so a lot would keep

      6. he is consistently a top point scoring midfielder, in a free scoring pool side he will get plenty of assists via set pieces, and pens is a bonus - he is a little expensive though but is a genuine alternative to silva

      7. cole may only play cup games unti he proves he can oust azpi, until then he is a good pick
