Gameweek 28 Manchester Derby Set to Be Rescheduled

This evening the inevitable has now been confirmed. Following Manchester City’s 9-0 aggregate victory over West Ham in the Capital One Cup, Fantasy managers are facing up to the prospect of a blank Gameweek 28 for Manuel Pellegrini’s side – the knock-on effect, of course, means we will also have a double Gameweek to consider at some point:

With City now making their way to Wembley on Sunday March 2, their currently-scheduled short hop across town to Old Trafford will be postponed and take place on an, as yet, unconfirmed date. As a result, neither Manchester side will have a fixture in Gameweek 28, meaning Fantasy managers will need to plan accordingly.

As both sides are still competing in the Champions League (and given UEFA are really dragging out the first knock-out round of the competition), there really is very little room for manoeuvre in terms of rescheduling – unless, of course, both are eliminated. At present, there are very few entirely open slots to add in an extra game (there are a couple in April and May, should the fixture planners be overly patient but these should really be “saved” for potential further upheaval).

As best as we can tell, then, there are two possible midweek slots available for this game to take place before the end of March.

Wednesday February 5 (ie, Gameweek 25) is a possibility, though a number of factors weigh against this. Given that it is so soon for such a high-profile game (in terms of policing, promotion and broadcasting rights) and that City’s Gameweek 24 home clash with Chelsea is set to take place just two days before, on Monday February 3, we reckon this is an unlikely scenario. Furthermore, that midweek period is also set aside for FA Cup replays, should City unexpectedly fail to beat Watford at the first time of asking next weekend.

If the Hornets spring a surprise and and knock Pellegrini’s side out of the cup next Saturday, the United game would almost certainly be re-arranged for the weekend of February 15-16 (ie, Gameweek 26). Somehow, though, we just don’t see that happening.

Therefore, it would seem that the likeliest date for the rescheduled Manchester derby will be Tuesday 25th or Wednesday 26th March (GW31). This scenario would give City (FUL, mun) and United (whm, MCI) for the chance to rack up the Fantasy returns but these dates, once again, are reserved for an FA Cup replay and are subject to City’s progress in the competition – basically, then, there’s still no 100% guarantee.

In layman’s terms: Manchester United versus Manchester City (GW28) will now be postponed to another Gameweek TBC. It’s most likely to occur in GW31 but this is only a guess from folks who pay close attention to the fixtures and far from a certainty. We will share an official date of the rescheduled fixture as soon as one of the clubs involved disseminate the information to us.

Beyond this fixture, United are set to finish their own Capital One Cup tie tomorrow evening at home to Sunderland. If David Moyes’ side turn their fortunes around and win there will be no further upheaval but further fixture changes would be afoot if the Wearsiders hold onto their lead as Sunderland’s Gameweek 28 clash with West Brom would be postponed.

Seeing as neither side is competing in Europe, this game could be rescheduled to pretty much any Gameweek going forward – aside from midweek Gameweek 28, due to international friendlies. We will, of course, issue an update as soon as we find out.

One thing is certain, though. Blank and double Gameweeks have returned and those who play the closest attention could have a really great advantage over their rivals as the battle for mini-league superiority heats up. As always, we’ll keep you up to date when we know more.

WCing in GW 24 so what would you do with this lot for one last week:

    Mannone
    Coleman, Mert, Kosc
    Haz, Silva, Oscar, Janujaz
    Suarez, Aguero, Lukaku

    Subs: Sterling, Chester, Burner

Lukaku > someone is tempting but Lucas news + last time's performance against Pool means I will keep.

If Coleman out for a while, Coleman > Azpi.
If only out this week, Burner > Parr and start him.

Was hoping I'd be able to take a nice punt before my WC but defence isn't great for this week! Sounds decent though?

Our teams are soooooooo similar and I'm Wcing in Gw24 as well. You've got Burner over Gabbidon, Sterling over Kim and Lukaku over Giroud.

And just like you, I'm wondering what to do with the FT as well.

Contemplating Giroud > Bony/Borini. But for you, I can see the benefit of getting Parr if Coleman's out.

40m is a lot to pay for someone in the Silva role when you'd also have to pay RVP and Rooney and still haven't addressed the deeper midfield. If it happens I still think it's anticipation for a Rooney summer exit.

How would you improve this team (on a WC)

    Mannone, Adrian
    Mert/Terry/Kolarov/Olsson/Mariappa
    Hazard/Yaya/Cabaye/Wilshere/Januzaj
    Aguero/Suarez/Lukaku

    Currently have 0.2 in bank.

Im trying to figure out how I can get some cash to upgrade a defender? Perhaps a GK?
One option is selling Lukaku (8.0 sell price) and getting Adebayor - that will get me 0.2 more.

Maybe downgrade Januzaj to Noone to free up even more cash? Maybe Terry to Cahill or Azpi?

If I do any of these things, where would you upgrade???

Depends if you want Ramsey back, when fit - if so, Janu to Mutch, Noone etc would facilitate that move in the future, as you already have 4 starters in midfield.

      Thanks for the replies.

If I dont need to upgrade a defender, any other places to tinker?

I have held Lukaku a long time, however Abedayor looks tempting in his current form.

that would then give me 0.4 in the bank. I could then do Januzak to Noone (since I will most likely never play my 5th MID) and then do a GK to Szez or another top GK?

      Or maybe just stay put?

I'll find it very hard not to do Ozil > Mata if rumors are true that United want the deal done by this weekend.

Brunt + Pepe Mel = SWAG. Have a look at his stats vs Everton.

Can't blame you for getting used to Nolan's red cards though.

Nolan + Eriksen is the way forward for me.

Hey the championship's already sealed, but would love some Cavani or Rooney using that money.

BTW the whole Mata rumours are complete BS. I don't buy a single word of this. Basically United are taking revenge for the whole Rooney saga in the summer and at the same time, getting their fans pepped up (notice how United fans are the only ones saying the deal's probable). In the likely scenario that it won't go through, United's fallback will be "Hey! Atleast we tried"

As a US resident who reads UK papers for better general news coverage it always amazes me how unprofessional their sports reporting is. Plenty of trade rumors in US sports papers, but usually they are sourced in some way or identified as rumor.

Absolutely. Having just moved to Canada this year I'm disappointed that the quality of general news coverage over here has barely improved since I lived in the US in the 80's but the sports reporting in the UK has always been the same. A headline sells papers ( or gets internet hits) and the story below sometimes bears no resemblance to the headline and transfer/trade stories are never sourced. Sports journalism in North America is much better informed imo

In the end it will probably be best for ManU fans, as I can't see Mata as anywhere near the best way to use 40M.

It's not about return on value here though. You don't get a player of such rare qualities and spectacalibre in Jan, especially amidst a crisis. So I can see Mata being a big boost to United's top 4 challenge for sure.

At the end of the day, Jose's no idiot to save United from a potential domino effect.

I criticize JM for not being aggressive enough on the pitch, but I know he's a smart man. I think 40M for Mata would be a smart move for Chelsea. Get more than Mata's worth from a ManU who has to overspend out of desperation.

With Matic in the mix, I think we may just see a free-scoring Chelsea. I know people are expecting us to become more defensively sound but I expect the reverse. Watch Hazard and Oscar's stocks boom to another level now.

I think Chelsea are going to win no matter which way they play. If's it's going yo happen anyway, I much rather it happen with guys like Hazard, Oscar,& Willian playing beautiful attacking football. More fun to watch.

If the Mata rumours are true ( and although he's a great player we need more of a box to box player than another number 10 ) I would expect Chelsea to go for a top name striker

With this WC team I went with last week, what would you do about Ozil and Negredo:

    Boruc, Mannone
    Azpi, Coleman, Chester, Koscielny, Turner
    Ozil, Cabaye, Januzaj, Hazaard, Pozuelo
    Aguero, Suarez, Negredo

    A: Keep both, save FT
B: Keep Ozil, But do Negredo ---> Sturridge/Giroud
    C: Ozil + Negredo ---> Yaya + Giroud (-4)
    D: Other

Negrado is the priority, due to lack of guaranteed playtime (Jovetic is back from injury too, now)

Ozil can wait a week or two.

thankyou! out of my rivals in the minileague, only 1 (out of about 8) has studge, 2 have giroud. so both would be differential.

Also surprisingly only 4 have Toure, 3 have ozil, 2 have Silva.

So do I stick with Ozil or bring a City MID, leaving me with no Arsenal Mid/Att
