Double Gameweek 31 for City and United

From a Fantasy perspective, there’s been plenty of news to consider from Old Trafford over the last couple of days. First there was the club record signing of Juan Mata on Saturday evening, whilst earlier on today David Moyes revealed both Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are back in full training ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Cardiff.

In the past hour, though, United’s confirmation of a Manchester derby with neighbours City on Tuesday March 25 is perhaps the most significant of all.

With both clubs facing a blank Gameweek 28 due to City’s participation in the Capital One Cup final, the Premier League have moved quickly to reschedule their Old Trafford encounter.

Essentially, this means both clubs now have a double Gameweek 31 on their respective agendas. United will travel to West Ham on the Saturday evening beforehand, whilst City entertain Fulham at the Etihad on the same day, giving the duo three days’ rest before they go head-to-head at Old Trafford.

As winter wildcard plans are finalised, today’s news is bound to play a significant part in our thinking.

Looking at the fixtures directly after the double, United are clearly at an advantage. David Moyes’ side have home games with Villa and Hull in two of the subsequent three, while City have trips to Arsenal and Liverpool over the same period. Mata, Rooney and van Persie look set to be earmarked by many, though the tactic of stocking up on City may be a little less enticing.

With Liverpool travelling to Cardiff the same weekend, Luis Suarez owners will be keen to hold – many will be looking to free up budget in midfield, then, in order to afford a United forward along with Suarez and Sergio Aguero up top.

Significantly, this comes in the same Gameweek where Chelsea and Arsenal go head-to-head at Stamford Bridge. Indeed, with the Gunners’ fixtures reading (tot, che, MCY, eve) from Gameweek 30-33, offloading their assets may be a popular tactic.

We’ll bring you the usual Scouting the Doubles articles nearer the time but, for now, this is a heads-up.

Time to get rid of Seamus?

Since Gameweek 13, he has been very impressive with four goals and three clean sheets.

However, looking deeper, it appears unlikely this will continue. His stats place him remarkably highly when it comes to goal conversion (% of attempts that result in goals):

Gameweek 13 - 22, based on those with 8 shots or more

    Yaya 40%
    Adebayor 38.5%
    Carlton Cole 38.5%
    Gouffran 37.5%
    Eto'o 36.4%
    Hazard 33.3%
    Chamakh 33.3%
    COLEMAN 30.8%

Undeniably, Coleman had a very impressive number of attempts (13), but in his previous 10 attempts, he managed just one goal. In my opinion, this suggests a purple patch.

In terms of clean sheets, Everton started strongly with 8 clean sheets in the first 14 gameweeks. However, they have managed just 1 clean sheet in the following 8 gameweeks.

Then there are Everton's upcoming fixtures:
    GW 23 Liverpool (A)
    GW 24 Aston Villa (H)
    GW 25 Tottenham (A)
    GW 26 Crystal Palace (H)
    GW 27 Chelsea (A)
    GW 28 West Ham (H)
    GW 29 Newcastle (A)
    GW 30 Cardiff City (H)
    GW 31 Swansea (H)
    GW 32 Fulham (A)

With Coleman ruled out of the Derby for definite, it seems unlikely Coleman will be rushed back just a few days later against Villa, especially if Stones/Hibbert deputises effectively. Therefore, that could be 2 blanks. The following three fixtures include trips to Tottenham and Chelsea, albeit with a plum tie in between vs Palace.

With none of Coleman's goals coming against the top teams, this could be a poor spell for him (blank/blank/2 points/6 points/2 points is a possibility).

With this is mind, Coleman is unlikely to justify his price tag over the next 5 gameweeks. With such high ownership, we are already seeing large transfers out due to his red flag. Add into this that Coleman will obviously be held by lots of trigger-fingered casuals (with plenty on a WC), this could see his value plummet.

Many of us have valuable profit/funds tied up in him, suggesting an effective sale now could see a prosperous return - for instance, Coleman drops enough to make him affordable by the time the good spell comes (GW28 - depending on blank GWs) and his replacement earning valuable points before then.

With TotalFPL predicting a drop, now could be the time to ditch. (Disclaimer: No drop predicted by Fiso!)

I think I may have convinced myself! 🙂 Who's with me?

Yaya's on 30% all season though - clearly not a purple patch. 🙂

Does he have good stats because he's scored lots of goals? Or does he score lots of goals because he's class so the sweet stats follow?

        The latter me thinks. 🙂

      Good write-up.

1 goal and 1 clean sheet in last 5 matches against poor competition.

Also, 3 of his 5 goals came in GW13 – 18 while Baines was out. With Baines bombing down the wing, Coleman may be forced back more often.

Crosses left wing vs right wing:

        GW13 - 18 without Baines... 44.7% vs 54.7% - right wins

        GW19 - GW22 with Baines... 63.9% vs 34.9% - left kills it! Great shout. 😀

If we say Baines/Everton defender will be back in for GW28, we're looking at 5 gameweeks:

United - CAR / sto / FUL / ars / Cpl - not great defensively, but very good fixtures

Chelsea - WHM / mci / NEW / wba / EVE - much better defensively, plus Matic looked solid in the FA Cup, decent fixtures

        Cheaper options include:
Swansea - FUL / whm / CAR / sto / liv - four promising fixtures - Ashley Williams would be the pick
        Cardiff - mun / NOR / swa / AVL / HUL - 3 very good home games

What you say makes great sense... Nice one

He's £5.9m for me at the moment and after tonight becomes £5.8m.

      My thoughts are
A.) would I want to take a -4 to change him?
B.) I won't be able to afford to get him back

      Open Controls
        • 10 Years

Yeah same here - I would lose £0.1m tonight.

        A) I don't have three playing defenders for this week - so it's either -4 for Coleman out or -4 for a cheap defender out. Coleman out means a better upgrade.

        B) My point above was, if he gets huge amounts of transfers out because of the injury/poor returns, he could become affordable again, costing only a little bit more than you sell him for. Plus, you'll have more points from his replacement in between.

narrow 4-2-3-1 if he is to be used properly with Mata either in the hole or in an RAM/LAM position (not very wide) with fullbacks to provide the width..
