The Weekend Team News

Everton’s defensive problems continue as Seamus Coleman and Sylvain Distin remain on the sidelines for the visit of Villa. Arsene Wenger rules Jack Wilshere out Sunday’s clash with Palace. Papiss Cisse and Yoan Gouffran are both still doubts for Newcastle, whilst Loic Remy loses his red card appeal. Rickie Lambert looks set to return for Southampton, though Gabby Agbonlahor is still a concern for Villa:

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Jack Wilshere will miss the visit of Crystal Palace this weekend with an ongoing ankle injury, though hopes the England international will be available against Liverpool the week after. Wenger also conceded Aaron Ramsey will remain sidelined for four-to-six weeks after a thigh injury setback. Mathieu Flamini is suspended after his red card against Southampton, though Tomas Rosicky will return to the squad following surgery on his nose.

Everton’s defensive issues don’t look like abating this week. Roberto Martinez confirmed tomorrow’s game with Villa will come too soon for both Sylvain Distin and Seamus Coleman, whilst Antolin Alcaraz looks set to be out “for a while” with muscle fatigue. Though Martinez does expect the pair to be available for the game against Tottenham next weekend. Elsewhere, the Everton boss has confirmed that new recruit Lacina Traore is still 10-14 days away from recovering from a hamstring problem.

Paul Lambert has confirmed that Gabby Agbonlahor remains “touch and go” for the trip to Goodison Park, after a foot injury ruled him out of the Midlands derby in midweek. The forward will be assessed again but his manager has admitted the Toffees showdown may well be too soon.

Rickie Lambert has returned to full training ahead of Southampton’s trip to Fulham. Additionally, Mauricio Pochettino could be set to hand fit-again Victor Wanyama his first start since Gameweek 14 after he returned to the Saints squad in midweek.

Cardiff’s Mark Hudson looks likely to miss out with the hamstring problem that forced him off against United in midweek. Earlier this morning, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also confirmed Jordan Mutch and Kevin Theophile-Catherine are both in contention to return for tomorrow’s home game against Norwich.

Alan Pardew will assess the fitness of attackers Yoan Gouffran and Papiss Cisse ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby. The pair missed the stalemate with Norwich in midweek through injury and remain doubtful for the weekend. New signing Luuk de Jong is available after completing his move this week, however the forward is unlikely to be handed a start against Sunderland.

Meanwhile, the Football Association have dismissed Newcastle’s appeal against the red card handed to Loic Remy in midweek. The striker will now serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect. There was good news for Norwich, though, with the FA rescinding Bradley Johnson’s red card for his part in the Remy clash last Tuesday evening.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter stream as breaking news unfolds.

    Talk of Coleman having 'poor fixtures' is strange. His home fixtures are excellent and he can pull out attacking returns anywhere.

      I like his home games but he'll be on my bench for the away games as my defence is good.

      Just inconsistant fixtures I suppose, which makes picking him for his potential defensive returns harder.

    I'm going to take a punt on Ron Vlaar. He doesn't score any goals, but is nailed on and Villa's fixtures are pretty good.
    Hopefully, Everton will be missing Lukaku's vital assists in their attacking play.

    My sorry looking bunch for the weekend:

    Boruc
    Azpi / Ward / Koscielny
    Silva / Hazard / Lallana / Jedinak
    Suarez / Aguero* / Giroud

    Davis / Cabaye* / Coleman* / Chester*

    Looking at doing Aguero + Cabaye ➡ Sturridge + Yaya (-4)
    Good moves?

      Depends a bit on how the City presser go, he did get taken off early. How about Mata? I like Sturridge a lot, but maybe just do Aguero -> Sturr for free? IF Aguero is out.

        Mata is tempting, and as a United fan I'd love him to do well, but they're still not firing on all cylinders. City's fixtures after this weekend are awesome and I want as much cover as possible for those matches. See what Pelle reveals later today. Cheers mate.

          True, it's really about involvement though. Yaya has penos with Aguero out, a big plus for him. Tough one 🙂 I'd be tempted either way to pocket the 4 points with Chelsea showing close to no signs of weakness in their defense the past months.

            If you break it down Yaya needs to score really to repay the 4 points. I'd say there's less than 100% chance he'll score on Monday 😉

              Trouble is he keeps on scoring! Haha. I might just do the one move this week and hope Jedinak gets involved this weekend. He nearly scored on Tuesday night, and played the furthest forward he has done all season 8)

      GOOD question. If he is i'll gladly snap him up - I could do with saving 0.4 from not having Vlaar.

      My FF season has been going like up, down, up, down, up down. Can't get a green arrow two weeks in a row. 76K rank.

      Anyway, I was forced to do -8 this week. How do you like this team?

      Howard
      Chambers - Mertesacker - Dawson
      Januzaj - Mata - Hazard - Lallana
      RVP - Sturridge - Suarez

      Bench: Boruc - Burner, Zabaleta, A. Pozuelo

      A bit afraid of Januzaj game time now that Mata is on but he's good value if he gets play time.

      I believe the preferred central pairing (when fit) is Vlaar and Clark from what I've seen this season but I may be wrong..

    Lost (or ignored!) at the bottom of last page...

    Navas or Mata for at least until the DGW? Will bench then for the blank.

    I'll also have RVP and Yaya.

    Leaning towards Navas - MUCH better fixtures.

      mata. will be at the center of everything teeing up RVP. United improving. City the points are shared more and navas not as proven.

        Agreed. United away have been pretty good even without any fit attackers. Stoke this weekend could get ugly.

        Palace, Stoke & Arsenal are no pushovers away from home. Probably.

        City are BEASTS at home (and have Norwich away). I'm sure even Chelsea will succumb.

      Not too bad. I'm playing Gnabry anyway, so put him in. Save Coleman, he'll be back quickly.
      Aguero to Rooney or Studge. Have a cigar.

    The price difference between RVP and Rooney is way too big to even consider picking the dutch over the english man. Plus, the BPS has totally changed the dynamics here. While RVP would have picked 3 points on every game last year for no reason, Rooney's overall influence in the game is now beeing rewareded by the new BPS

      But Remember one thing Rooney Mata & Valencia/Januzaj/Young are only feeder to RVP.
      They will be supplying to him and its RVP who will be involved in most of the goals and according to the rule player involved in most of the goals get most BPS 🙂
      but I agree with your point of money.

      Rooney has the edge on BPS assuming they get the same amount of attacking returns. In this area I favor the flying Dutchman, especially when you add penos into the equation and the fact that you know he'll be the spearhead.

    Okay would appreciate some replies, having a real tough decision here.

    A) Aguero -> RvP
    B) Aguero -> RvP, Coleman -> Fabio (-4)
    C) Aguero -> RvP, Coleman -> Fabio, Januzaj -> Mirallas (-8)

    Zaha & Ince to Cardiff means its bad for players like Noone & Mutch but certainly both Zaha & Ince are very enticing players and they will definitely return FPL points.
    I remember I watched them playing for England and they both were very quick and both have an eye for goal.
