The ScoutCast – Episode 125 – Sicknote

It’s the ScoutCast vs Adversity. Granville drags himself out of his sick bed and we scramble into a makeshift studio, determined to return to the airwaves after our absence last week.

Apologies in advance for the echo, the faint background hiss and Granville’s Bonnie Tyler-like tones. If you can see your way past that little lot then you might just find some worth in this week’s episode as we grill the Gameweek 29 blank, sauté the Gameweek 31 doubles, boil down the Suarez vs Sturridge debate and lament our joint decision to choose Edin Dzeko from the lavish striker buffet, ignoring the sumptuous Sturridge in the process.

In between that particular call to Captain Hindsight, we rinse through the regulars, although Granville’s poorly state has us clean forget to credit the Scout League leaders or offer our thoughts on our new Fantasy Football squeeze – Ultimate Fantasy Premier League. Please accept this note from our respective Mum’s and the promise that we’ll return to full fitness next week.

I am considering the previously unthinkable and dropping Suarez if he fails to perform this week. With all the doubles coming up he is expensive and limiting the number of ways I can stretch my budget to maximise DGW players.
I have Sturridge and I can have Gerrard and and all bar an arm and the head, of Sterling, this would give me the three attacking Pool players I want for their DGW. I also plan other budget guzzlers for their doubles, so something has to give and try as I might, having failed to get my TV up to £130,000,000 there is no other way that springs to mind.
Look on the bright side Suarez owners, if I get rid, it pretty much guarantees he'll be up double digiting it all over the place once more.

Anyone else planning desperate measures to maximise their DGWs?

  The issue is, which forward will you get for Suarez?
  
  Aguero & Sturridge are automatic choices leaving only 1 place
  
  City & Sunderland have 3 DGW - Negredo/ Dzeko/ Fletcher : None of them except Negredo is a decent shout
  
  Everton 2 DGW - Lukaku severely out of form
  
  and rest of the other teams with DGW will have the double in the same week as Suarez. I am thinking Carrol for Suarez but what if Sturridge gets injured ?

  Sterling looks great but has poor FF returns bar his outlier against the Gunners. Lucas return is imminent and I think Sterling, rather than Coutinho will lose out.They need Coutinho's creativity more than they need another winger but Coutinho needs to be played more centrally.
  
  I'm in the same boat with Suarez. If he doesn't throw world class shapes against Stoke he'll be out, hopefully for Aguero. If he does I'll still think about getting Stevie in for Hazard for GW31.

  I'm keeping Sturridge and Suarez until GW31 at least. Don't see Gerrard as a replacement for Suarez. Did RVP not go through a lull around this time last season before coming back with a bang? Can see Suarez doing the same

  He will have a double too, and not a bad one either. As the ultimate flat track bully, he is superb captain material for GW31.
  
  If I'd ditch him, I'd probably do it already this week. But above is the reason why I rather suffer two blanks in a row from two of my strikers.

What makes someone a great double game week player? I'm not talking about form and fixtures here, I'm talking about how there are certain players who seem to explode on a DGW, regardless. Clint Dempsey, for example, always seemed to thrive on it.
Is there something about certain players that means they relish a tight schedule and perform better when they're playing more games in a shorter time period?

And if so... Who is going to be the outside bet for the upcoming doubles? I've a funny feeling about AJ... How about you guys?

  I think minutes will count, so I'm intending to go for team Captains and set piece takers who have maximum game time and then good fixtures and form. I'm not sure we know who might be the odd player inspired by a DGW, I reckon that will come down to luck. Maybe Carroll.

  Dempsey always seemed to have decent fixtures in his doubles but he was always one you could rely on for some reason in those weeks. Sunderland going downhill atm after a nice run there. Have AJ but will probably sell this week. Might be forced to buy back if funds are low but don't trust Sunderland again.

Hey Guys,

Just got the lead in my ML and hope to keep it after the coming weeks.

Here is my bunch:

Adrian
Kos - Terry - Fonte - Coleman
Hazard - Lallana - Mirallas
Suarez - Lambert - Sturridge

Subs: Manone, Mata, Jedinak , Ryan Bennett

1 FT

My questions :
A: Is there a chance that Ryan Bennett might play in GW 29?
B: Would you use or save the FT? I could do Kos->chelsea def or Ryan Bennett to a safer option GW 29

Any other ideas?

    He was explosive against Newcastle. Not that explosive in 5 of his last 6 PL games. No doubting his class but he must be getting tired carrying that Chelsea attack who are very reliant on him. Has Galatasary return leg the week before the Arsenal game although Jose loves the early kickoffs.
    
    I'd say Mata has been unimpressive compared to what many expected for him. But he's cheaper, extra cash can be used elsewhere and has the doublegame.
    
    I have both. Selling Hazard for Stevie, unless, as Hubert suggests, Hazard's form improve's dramatically or Mata's takes a nosedive.

  I actually think RvP will do really well for rest of the season. Good captain candidate for 29, has DGW on 31 (albeit difficult, but at one point I'd have had no hesitation at all captaining him for West Ham away alone)
