Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 30

We scour the weekend’s matches and analyse the post-match reports for news of any fresh injury concerns ahead of double Gameweek 31:

Arsenal
Reports suggest Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was replaced by Thomas Vermaelen with five minutes left of yesterday’s win over Spurs due to a tight calf. Nicklas Bendtner missed the north London derby win as a result of illness, according to Arsene Wenger.

Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor was withdrawn in Saturday evening’s win over Chelsea with a calf complaint. Paul Lambert remains optimistic the forward will be ready for Sunday’s home clash with Stoke:

“Gabby had a little problem at half-time just with his calf and so we watched it and took him off because we still have masses of games to play – I think he’ll be okay.”

Everton
Gareth Barry needs to be assessed after suffering a shin problem in Everton’s win over Cardiff. Roberto Martinez rolled out an update on the midfielder, who picked up the problem following a strong challenge by the Bluebirds’ Kevin Theophile-Catherine:

“Gareth has stud marks on his shin. It’s a strong knock but it didn’t affect any joints so that’s the reason he could carry on. I haven’t seen the replay, but I believe the player has both feet off the ground and he doesn’t get the ball so it was a reckless, violent challenge.”

Fulham
The Cottagers record signing Kostas Mitroglou failed to make the weekend win over Newcastle after picking up a knee problem, whilst Darren Bent was unavailable due to “personal reasons” once again, though is expected to return next week. Goalscorer Ashkan Dejagah is an early concern for Saturday’s trip to the Etihad after he was forced off towards the end of the 1-0 triumph. The Iranian emerged from the benched to grab the winner but lasted just 26 minutes, with manager Felix Magath revealing:

“It’s too early to talk about it. He was injured before and has done almost the same thing. I’m afraid it might last a bit longer this time.”

Man United
Chris Smalling’s run of six straight league starts came to an end yesterday after he missed the home clash against Liverpool with a hamstring injury.

Southampton
Dejan Lovren was forced off towards the end of Saturday’s 4-2 win over Norwich with a groin problem. Mauricio Pochettino revealed after the match that the Croatian suffered the most tender of injuries:

“Basically, one of his testicles was stepped on by another player and I’m pretty sure that one testicle is quite inflamed, quite swollen.”

Stoke
Erik Pieters was subbed off with less than 15 minutes on the clock after sustaining a muscle injury. Post-match, the Dutchman gave an update on the problem after a trip to the hospital:

“Had my first scan in half time and I’m happy to say everything it’s ok. Weekend rest and see how it’s on Monday.”

Sunderland
Steven Fletcher lasted just 45 minutes of Saturday’s goalless draw before limping off at half-time with an ankle injury, with Jozy Altidore now looking in pole position for the central role ahead of the Black Cats’ double Gameweek.

West Brom
Morgan Amalfitano was ruled out of Saturday’s win over Swansea after picking up a knock in training, according to reports in the local press.

have a look at Joe Hart.

3 clean sheet on the hop, and he rotates well with Mannone (3 dgw apiece)

Have to say, FPL have shown 0 consistency this season with assist. Some players (Lukaku) gets assists from not touching the ball, others (Suarez) get an extra assist under very dubious circumstances seeing as Rafael didn't actually foul him which I believed was how assists work. Further, some players don't get an assist when it is deserved.

That level of inconsistency is why I won't pay to play UFPL. I can just about stick it with a free game but a paid one? Seeing as there will be multiple new parameters in UFPL that are taken into account I'm not convinced there won't be even more headaches.

It's a clear assist, has been the same in FPL for years. They just messed up not awarding it in first place. Justice done.

What was the precedent? Honestly I'm more confused than anything but if it's a case where an accidental handball (intentional would have been a RC and they have to follow the refs rulings) has been an assist? Because then I'd fall in line I just can't remember such a situation.

following consultation with Opta, it appears that usual guidelines had not been followed and the assist was omitted from initial feeds. Therefore the correct assist has now been awarded and we apologise for any confusion caused.

This is my thinking but that's based on being fouled? Rafael didn't foul him specifically, fouled the ball. Just a little confusing really and I'd like to see the precedent set for it.

Strange how people are complaining about the Suarez assist.
I don't have him as captain, but Suarez caused the penalty. His touch made the ball hit Rafael's hand... how does he not deserve an assist?

Thought it was based on the rule that Rafael fouled the ball, not the man. Hypothetically this means that if a GK launches it up the pitch and a defender, even accidentally, handles the ball resulting in a converted penalty it is an assist. You could argue that it was a foul that prevented a goal scoring opportunity but if that was the case it would have been a red card. I'm just very confused, they seem to follow the ref's rulings sometimes, OPTA's other times and then their own but feeling at other times.

Lack of consistency is what irritates me.

WC is active and I'm on draft #3.

    Thoughts?

    Mannone, Adrian
    Skrtel, Coleman, Chester, Ward, Azpilicueta
    Hazard, Yaya, Silva, Nolan, Sissoko
    Suarez, Sturridge, Lukaku

    0.6m

Thought about Gerrard + Zabaleta over Silva + Skrtel, but settled on S&S because of a few reasons.

    - City have lost Kompany at the back so are arguably less likely to keep clean sheets.
    - Liverpool have easier fixtures for clean sheets
    - Silva has better offensive stats than Gerrard (and no more CL for rest/rotation)
    - I have SAS upfront, and having Gerrard as well would be a big double down which would all go to hell if say Mannone decides to play a blinder and shut them out.

Which of the following is advisable?

Nailed on and gets the occasional goal/assist, I'll be playing him.

He's been my eternal bench-fodder for pretty much all this season and I've missed every bit of his attacking returns

Should have been a red for the challenge on Kalou though. Watched it a few times now, Vlaar is definitely behind him and the ball is too far away for a simple challenge. Last man foul with a high foot. Those who say it wasn't a goal scoring op. I cannot understand. Despite the ball moving a bit to the side, Kalou would have still been into the box at a shooting angle.

Chelsea were filthy though Willian's second yellow was harsh given what he allowed Villa away with (2 pretty poor tackles from Baker only earned him a YC.)

    Pop quiz hotshot.....

If I want to lose RVP, but can't get Sturridge (already have 3 Liverpool) and already own Suarez and Lukaku, what/who is the best option:

    1) Keep RVP
    2) Dzeko/Negredo
    3) Carroll
    4) Lose Sterling just to allow the inclusion of Sturridge
    5) Other

I feel partly responsible for your indecision as I gave alternatives earlier - but I really think your original idea of getting Yaya/Silva and Sturridge in for RVP and Sterling is a good option. There may prove to be a better one in hindsight, but right now this is my favourite.

I think it is the front runner and it does make sense.....however, my only issue with it is that it uses 2 valuable FTs to swap 2 DGW players for others.

Effectively doing that move reduces my DGW crew by 2 players unless I start to take hits.

Yes, but I'd argue that you are improving both players for better options - and not just for the DGW. Just getting a 4pt DGWer in for the sake of an extra game isn't really a great idea in the long term.

    Options for DGW.

    A)Lallana > Nasri or Nolan

    B)JRod > Dzeko

Which is the nicer one? I sort of like A as already have had Dzeko this year, but can see Hammers going for it at home to get to safety.
