Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 30

We scour the weekend’s matches and analyse the post-match reports for news of any fresh injury concerns ahead of double Gameweek 31:

Arsenal
Reports suggest Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was replaced by Thomas Vermaelen with five minutes left of yesterday’s win over Spurs due to a tight calf. Nicklas Bendtner missed the north London derby win as a result of illness, according to Arsene Wenger.

Aston Villa
Gabby Agbonlahor was withdrawn in Saturday evening’s win over Chelsea with a calf complaint. Paul Lambert remains optimistic the forward will be ready for Sunday’s home clash with Stoke:

“Gabby had a little problem at half-time just with his calf and so we watched it and took him off because we still have masses of games to play – I think he’ll be okay.”

Everton
Gareth Barry needs to be assessed after suffering a shin problem in Everton’s win over Cardiff. Roberto Martinez rolled out an update on the midfielder, who picked up the problem following a strong challenge by the Bluebirds’ Kevin Theophile-Catherine:

“Gareth has stud marks on his shin. It’s a strong knock but it didn’t affect any joints so that’s the reason he could carry on. I haven’t seen the replay, but I believe the player has both feet off the ground and he doesn’t get the ball so it was a reckless, violent challenge.”

Fulham
The Cottagers record signing Kostas Mitroglou failed to make the weekend win over Newcastle after picking up a knee problem, whilst Darren Bent was unavailable due to “personal reasons” once again, though is expected to return next week. Goalscorer Ashkan Dejagah is an early concern for Saturday’s trip to the Etihad after he was forced off towards the end of the 1-0 triumph. The Iranian emerged from the benched to grab the winner but lasted just 26 minutes, with manager Felix Magath revealing:

“It’s too early to talk about it. He was injured before and has done almost the same thing. I’m afraid it might last a bit longer this time.”

Man United
Chris Smalling’s run of six straight league starts came to an end yesterday after he missed the home clash against Liverpool with a hamstring injury.

Southampton
Dejan Lovren was forced off towards the end of Saturday’s 4-2 win over Norwich with a groin problem. Mauricio Pochettino revealed after the match that the Croatian suffered the most tender of injuries:

“Basically, one of his testicles was stepped on by another player and I’m pretty sure that one testicle is quite inflamed, quite swollen.”

Stoke
Erik Pieters was subbed off with less than 15 minutes on the clock after sustaining a muscle injury. Post-match, the Dutchman gave an update on the problem after a trip to the hospital:

“Had my first scan in half time and I’m happy to say everything it’s ok. Weekend rest and see how it’s on Monday.”

Sunderland
Steven Fletcher lasted just 45 minutes of Saturday’s goalless draw before limping off at half-time with an ankle injury, with Jozy Altidore now looking in pole position for the central role ahead of the Black Cats’ double Gameweek.

West Brom
Morgan Amalfitano was ruled out of Saturday’s win over Swansea after picking up a knock in training, according to reports in the local press.

Shelford made his Test debut for the All Blacks later that year against France in a 19–7 victory in Toulouse, and then was a notable victim of the infamous "Battle of Nantes" in the second Test. Roughly 20 minutes into the match, he was caught at the bottom of a rather aggressive ruck, and an errant French boot found its way into Shelford's groin, somehow ripping his scrotum and leaving one testicle hanging free. He also lost four teeth in the process. Incredibly, after discovering the injury to his scrotum, he calmly asked the physio to stitch up the tear and returned to the field before a blow to his head left him concussed. He was substituted and watched the remainder of the game from the grandstand where he witnessed the All Blacks lose 16–3. To this day Shelford has no memory of the game.[2]

Since I have gotten rid of him he has brought in some huge points, but I still think attacking cover could prove golden.

I just ran the comparison tool on Cazorla vs Rosicky and they usually play about as far forward as each other, besides yesterday's match when Rosicky was more attacking -- not sure if it's a tactical move for a tough match away or a change going forward with their injuries.

I own Cazorla and wish I knew.

Bps for Kosc though. He's a magnet. CS and he gets something.

Baines attacking is set piece based, Coleman is open play. Depends on what one prefers.

I've already done my transfers, but advice welcome

    McGregor
    Coleman, Dummett, Koscielny
    Toure, Hazard, Nolan, Gerrard
    Suarez (c), Sturridge, Lukaku

    (Mannone, Gnabry, Burner, Gabbidon)

Hazard playing one game is going to outscore Gnabry, even if he gets two run outs, right? Right?

I'm surprised by how many people are going triple Liverpool attack. I've always been uncomfortable going for more than two players in the front 8 from one team, and with the heavy budget taken up by Gerrard, Suarez and Sturridge, I'm reluctant to do it even though it makes sense with these two plum fixtures coming up. You would think that among them all, at least one will get nothing in any given game (except last game). Liverpool have also been performing incredibly offensively. They have scored 3 or more goals in their last 5 games.

I've plumped for Skrtel instead of Gerrard on the back of their good recent defensive displays and because there are more options in midfield for points, but maybe I'm just psyching myself out and the answer is right there.

Any triplers here, and how confident are you?

      Liverpool. SSG.

Look at how all three have done over the past few weeks. They're the highest scoring team for a reason!

Fairly certain I am going triple LIV (SAS & Gerrard), with a plan for Gerrard -> Hazard in GW32/33.

Best fixtures for the double and playing some great attacking football. All 3 nailed on for both games also. Sturridge probably becomes Aguero in GW34 as well.

I think after seeing some of the recent performances there will be no relenting from them, 9 games left, they'll be up for every match and the fact that after every goal they score almost the entire team joins in shows their unity, I think coming onto the final stretch they'll charge and to be fair I think it would be foolish not to invest.

Yep, have gone for all three. Don't think you could go without S&S, but opted for gerrard too as a rival has him so I don't want him pulling away.

Think it should work out. Just need to pick the right captain

Always level-headed Camzy. Not many will conjure up Liverpool defenders for this DGW I think.

I'm pondering tripling up, but have my concerns with Gerrard. If it wasn't for Liverpool's 10 pens, he would normally be much further down the ranking.

I am contemplating but when looking at TSB% I was stunned to find no defenders at more than 5% -- everybody just went Mignolet and appear to have avoided doubling up. Could be a great differential to get one of them for that third Liverpool spot.

Basically, you can't ignore Suarez and Sturridge right now and Gerrard has only blanked FOUR times since Suarez returned from ban (one of those being just a 29 min cameo after his return from injury).

Just reading the article about Sterling/Coutinho playing at the head of the new diamond formation at Liverpool and how that may affect their gametime....Surely if Coutinho plays at the head of the diamond then Sterling will be played left of that diamond ahead of Allen won't he ?...

I think it depends on the opposition, they may not need to stifle the midfield as much against some teams so both could still be viable.

When you say got him at £10.5m, is that the price you'd get if you sell him, or actually the price you bought him at (so you'd get nearer £10.8 if you sold him)
