Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 32

We take a look at the injuries picked up over the weekend in our Monday afternoon regular. United and Spurs have cause for concern, while Sam Allardyce has worries in defence ahead of tonight’s trip to Sunderland:

Cardiff
Fabio was replaced during the first-half of the Bluebirds’ 3-3 draw at West Brom through injury, according to reports in the local press.

Everton
Ross Barkley started for the third match in succession yesterday but was forced off at the break with a calf complaint. In an interview with the Toffees official website, Roberto Martinez would only reveal:

“Ross had a knock on his calf halfway through the first half. With these soft tissue injuries, someone like Ross doesn’t think it will affect him and he wanted to run it off. He had to come off.”

Man United
David Moyes confirmed Rafael was forced off with a knock in Saturday’s win over Villa, whilst Antonio Valencia missed out with a knee problem:

“With Rafael, it’s an injury and we need to check it out. “Valencia had a bit of tendinitis in his knee, which is why he wasn’t involved. He was probably one I would have put to full-back if we had lost one, so we knew we’d be short if that was the case. The young boy Guillermo Varela might have got on the bench but he was injured as well so we had to juggle it around. We have injuries but we will probably know more about them tomorrow. I’ve just got to hope that Rafa’s injury isn’t too bad.”

Norwich
Joseph Yobo missed the 3-0 loss at Swansea after picking up a calf problem in training, though Chris Hughton remains optimistic the centre-half will be available for next weekend’s vital home clash with West Brom.

Tottenham
Jan Vertonghen lasted just 24 minutes of yesterday’s defeat at Anfield before limping off with ankle injury, Tim Sherwood confirmed post-match. Roberto Soldado also picked up a hamstring injury in the 4-0 defeat at Anfield, with both players set to be assessed later in the week. Paulinho missed the Merseyside encounter with conjunctivitis.

West Ham
Sam Allardyce has worries at centre-half for this evening’s trip to Sunderland. The Hammers boss has ruled James Collins out of the Black Cats showdown, though is optimistic on a trio of alternatives:

“James Collins doesn’t have a chance as he’s pulled a calf muscle. James Tomkins got a bad knock which we’re looking at and we’ll wait until Sunday, but we think he’s going to be OK. Roger Johnson got a big lump under his eye and we were worried that he might have slightly fractured the bone, but he hasn’t. We should have Winston Reid back from illness.”

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Wouldn't surprise me if Suarez still managed to score more than Kun for that week.

This maybe useful to anyone, like me, looking to get Aguero in soon.

He seems to start much slower on return from injury, suggesting it's worth letting him get his 'acclimatizing game' out the way before bringing him in.

We all thinking that soon as RVP is back he's straight back in? or if utd pick up from where they left off on Sat might he have lost his place?

Gotta say they look a lot more fluid with Mata behind Rooney.

United, unfortunately, look better with RVP out. Rooney can play in his actual position and stop forcing better midfielders to the bench/out of position due to his 'status' and contract.

Said it many times...What was the point of RVP?..Rooney is a perfectly good striker and always was, he may have been top scorer last season anyway had SAF not bought RVP...Not that I rate him higher , both great players..

Agree on both posts - its whether Moyes has the Kahunas to sacrifice either Rooney or RVP for the good of the team.

At the moment its looking like it should be RVP.

Maybe they could play something like Salzburg, 442 with insane pressing, some players would even for for that I guess... I think their biggest problem will be the half backs though cm I don't know bit someone who could do it along kagawa maybe?
But that's the only way to include both I think and then mata is out because he can't play in cm and neither on the side in such a Salzburg 442 i think.

The key point its him not playing in the hole, and Tim favoring a winger instead.
But he has produced in recent times. Always has the set-pieces to bust his appeal.

I didn't want to sell Kolarov, but you will see that I was downgrading him to fund Aguero + Silva (costly pair), or securing game time while having another 'not-so-nailed-on' striker.

Well if you go with Sergio, its just for the explosive outcome that he offers.
No matters if he plays the 2 games… 45min and he could grab 10/12 pts!

Kolarov it's the same…hang one and save a FT...

      Suarez, Lukaku, JRod

5.5 in the bank and 1 ft. The money is JRod - aguero. But I want to sort the midfield out too... Wanted to do januzaj to Punch for the DGW but don't have the money... Any thoughts???

Just to pick up on Wheato's post re RVP and Rooney...Often said that RVP won(!) United the title
last season...stupid thing to say but it's often said...and that SAF did a great bit of business...REALLY!...The season before last Rooney scored 34 goals in 43 games as the striker for United...Last season RVP scored 30 goals in 48 games...Seems to me like a backward transfer if anything...I hope Rooney well and truly rubs SAF's nose in it now he has his chance.

RvP was very much a vanity purchase. Kagawa was bought to play behind Rooney and offer the missing creative spark. Then RvP arrived, now what do you do with Kagawa?

But you're seeming to completely forget that Rooney wanted to leave. As far as I reckon, RVP came in to be the Roo replacement, Kagawa to slot behind him. Something in the background fell through, either Rooney decided against leaving or whatever club (Chelsea or City or other) went of the idea for whatever reason. The media gets about 10% of what's really going on behind closed doors, a lot of deals happen much earlier than people realise and a lot of deals are not widely publicised.

Roo had threatened to leave a few times. My honest feeling was Fergie was going to teach him a lesson and let him leave, show him the grass may not be greener, brought in RVP and Kagawa to replace him and perhaps Wayney's bluff was called. So he stayed.

Such a shame though, RVP with Kagawa supporting him or Rooney with Kagawa supporting him could have been feckin lethal given a chance to develop.

But if you recall Rooney's problem prior RVP being bought was the lack of high quality midfield players that SAF wanted to bring in..I think he called it a lack of ambition in that dept....Seems he was right all along !!...Maybe SAF should have listened to him.

I think there remains the possibility that RVP will leave in the summer and open up the possibility of Rooney playing up top with Kagawa, Mata and another high-quality attacking midfielder (yet to be purchased of course) playing behind him. Would be interesting.

They'd have to cut the wingers (something I have been praying they'd do all season). Januzaj is actually a better AM than he is a winger too.

                Well that makes sense then:

                Rooney
                Januzaj / Mata / Kagawa

                Would be pretty sweet

Kagawa's got a great acceleration? He was part of one of the quickest counter attacks in the Bundesliga. Mata not so fast I agree. Januzaj has a bit of pace though. Not as big an issue if they had better CMs though.

But SAF's first buy then was Kagawa, arguably the best AM in the Bundesliga at the time and certainly one of the top talents in Germany. So he did listen to him. Not to say that Rooney was wrong either, there was a lack of quality in the middle. But SAF wouldn't buy Kagawa to play him on the wing, he wanted him playing AM. So either Roo was playing up top or he was going to leave for RVP. Roo has pulled that same shit a few times, he's threatened to leave for Chelsea or City nearly every 2 seasons and I suspect a lot of it is actually contract stuff, he wants more money and he gets it. Sure look now, £300,000 a week for Wayne Rooney. He's a great talent but f**king hell talk about overpaying.

Yeah, stupid money for him..and agreed with your earlier comment that we probably only know about 10% of what really went on.

Only two players in the world are worth Rooney's money(?)..Messi and Ronaldo, but that's only because of the excess revenue they bring to their respective clubs and not through just playing football....simple business. Rooney can't do that.

Exactly. You are exactly correct. The difference is he had them over the barrel, pay him the money or let him go to Chelsea and he'll lead them to success. His performances have been good in fairness to him but for that money I'd expect him to single handedly beat City or Liverpool which he isn't capable of.

RVP can be said to have won United the title not just because of the goals he scored, but also because he wasn't playing for United's rivals.

Say he had gone to City instead of United last season (he was definitely leaving Arsenal) then when you add in the benefit he would've given to City, they would've put a much stronger challenge for the title in, considering United would've been slightly weaker.

For DGW 34, assuming all fit, would you prefer:

you know what, there's 6 gameweeks left..Noone is what he is..a cheap placeholder, I'm not going to waste a FT on dropping him..

      so here's my team:

      Mannone
      Baines - Ivan - Zaba - Ward - Chester
      Haz - Yaya - NASRI - Gerrard - Noone
      Suarez - Lukaku - Sturridge

have 2 FT. I think (not set yet) I want to get Aguero in for GW34 so am considering:
      before Friday: Gerrard > Eriksen
next week: Sturridge + Nasri > Aguero + 7.5m mid
      week after: Baines + Lukaku > 5.8m def + Rooney (-4)

but it all looks a bit crazy! 😐

Yeah, they might have stayed up with Berba... they can still, but with Berba, I believe they would have done better. He is a class player and can change results single-handedly.

On the other hand, the problem of Fulham is not their offence, but their defence.

Looking to sound out a different crowd on this:

Considering Nolan > Eriksen for this week and saving my other FT. Will leave me with this:

      Mannone (Adrian)
Zabaleta / Coleman / Chester (Bardsley / Dummett)
Gerrard / Eriksen / Yaya / Hazard (Colback)
      Suarez / Sturridge / Dzeko

Then, ignoring Aguero currently, replacing Gerrard and Sturridge with Barkley(if fit) and Lukaku for DGW34.

      Thoughts?
