Spot the Differential – Gameweek 35

With a few hours left before the deadlines is upon us, we scour the market in our search for some overlooked alternatives. This time around we offer a couple of frontmen with enticing home games on their agendas, whilst Liverpool’s young Brazilian is finally delivering the Fantasy returns his displays have more than merited.

Harry Kane

Handed his first league start by Tim Sherwood earlier in the month, the youngster has wasted no time in announcing himself to Premier League backlines. Partnering Emmanuel Adebayor in a 4-4-2 formation, with Christian Eriksen wreaking havoc on the left, Kane has netted in each of his subsequent two appearances, with strikes against Sunderland and West Brom highlighting his predatory instincts in and around the box.

As reports grow of a likely end-of-season departure for Sherwood, the Spurs boss is clearly determined not to bow to pressure from above and is likely to retain Kane in the starting XI for the run-in. With a home game against Fulham up next, supplemented by games against Stoke, West Ham and Villa to see out the season, Kane – priced at a mere 4.4 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and 5.9 in the Sky Sports game – could be an ideal acquisition for those looking to free up cash to draft in the likes of Sergio Aguero up top or load up on premium midfielders for the final four Gameweeks.

Loic Remy

Back in full training ahead of Newcastle’s home game against Swansea, the Frenchman looks likely to return to the starting line-up as Alan Pardew attempts to address a woeful run of form. The Magpies have now failed to score in each of their last four matches and, incredibly, have netted once in the last nine games Remy has failed to feature in.

With 13 strikes and a pair of assists in just 23 appearances for the Tyneside team, Remy’s loan arrival at St James’ Park has been one of the few positives in a season that has gradually fallen apart as the months have progressed. Remy also has a home game against struggling Cardiff on his agenda over the next three Gameweeks – offering him the perfect chance to place himself in the shop window ahead of next season.

Available for 7.9 in FPL, 7.8 in the Sky Sports game and 3.0 in the Sun Dream Team, his spell on the sidelines leaves Remy in just 4% of FPL sides heading into tomorrow’s deadline.

Philippe Coutinho

Much was expected of the Liverpool midfielder as the season got underway last August. Suffice to say, it’s mainly been a frustrating campaign for Coutinho – he’s struggled to turn some very impressive underlying statistics into Fantasy points and has been overshadowed by the displays of Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling in the Reds’ midfield.

Over the last few matches, however, the young Brazilian has stepped up in performance and produced some crucial displays for the league leaders. With goals in two of his last three matches supplemented by four bonus points, Coutinho has arrived back on our Fantasy radars ahead of three favourable fixtures in the final four Gameweeks for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Up next is a trip to Norwich, whilst a visit to Crystal Palace and home clash with Newcastle all seem promising for the free-scoring Merseysiders as they look to fire their way to the title. Available for 8.5 in FPL, 7.3 in the Sky Sports game and 3.0 in the Sun Dream Team, Coutinho’s current form suggest he looks a viable option for those looking to freshen up the injury-hit midfield area.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Decided to bench mata for mutch since I am already playing rooney. Is this total madness? I just have a feeling mutch will get double figures with the next 2 games being cardiff's last chance at survival. I can see them scoring 3 goals this GW and mutch to get at least 1. On the other hand, utd-everton will probably be tight so 1 attacking player is enough. The question is Mata or Rooney? I find it hard to bench Rooney especially that he is on spot kicks. But does he play 90 mins?

Is my assessment reasonable? Any thoughts?

Traditionally Rooney has been poor against Everton. Tho may change now Moyes has followed him to utd. If you're playing one I'd go for Mata.

Well Rooney is 5/1 first goalscorer and Mata 10/1 so the bookies agree. I still have think Rooney doesn't like scoring against Everton tho!

Barkley's Form number is 5.0 in that same chart, so if you decide purely by Form, yes you start Puncheon.
Though I'm not sure how much stock I would put in FPL's Form number, I'm not sure what it's based on exactly.

Normally I'm pretty down the line when it comes to captaincy choice, and yet this week I find myself a little out of sync.

Yes, Suarez has a phenomenal record against Norwich. Also, Norwich have a formidable defensive record at home (2 conceded in 7, including a clean sheet against city, who put 7 past them at the Etihad).

Suarez is without doubt a very valid captaincy option, but is he as overwhelming an option as the captains poll suggest?

Take Eriksen, for example. Tracking at about 7% in the captains poll. He's scored 33 points in his last two home games and faces Fulham.

I think the riskiest element of captaining someone other than Suarez lies in the fact that he has been so wholeheartedly accepted as almost the only valid option by the bulk of players. It's a big fork in the road, and it's quite rare that others captains are quite so predictable. I think it's that that makes it so hard to deviate.

I am trying to improve my 17k position to 5k but I don't see this as overly risky (or 'punty') based on the stats, but only based on my knowledge of what other's choices will be.

Any thoughts on this? Am I going mad?

Fulham have two clean sheets in a row and are playing for survival, I think they'll surprise a few this weekend.

I also think the DGWs are making people forget that Suarez has been the default captain choice for most of the season, and with a game at Norwich, a team he historically 'loves to play', it's crazy not to captain him. Don't over complicate things, is all I'd say.

Not at all Innsie. Like I say, he's very valid as a captain.

You might be right about Fulham, I'll agree with that.

I just don't think it's crazy to captain elsewhere. Based on Eriksen's performances, and involvement in all that Spurs do, it seems like a reasonable option.

Think I'll put my balls on the line. Might be on here licking my wounds later mind!

There are times where there is a good risk to take the road less taken by others. But doubt this gameweek is one of it. Put it on Suarez this week and go for the differential next week.

        Other way around for me!

I can see it both ways, but seems like it's just me. Just looking at how City destroyed them by 7 at the Etihad, and couldn't score at Carrow...Suarez is unreal, but productivity is slightly down just now. Whereas Eriksen has exploded

I don't think it's overly risky to consider another captain alternative to Suarez, but I'm not sure Eriksen is the choice. Don't you have any better alternatvie captaincy options?

If you want to make up ground you have to take the risks and consider less owned players and captain them (so go for Eriksen then 🙂 )

You see, I just think he's such an underrated choice.

4 goals in last 4 games. That's 3 more than Suarez btw.

And at home to Fulham. Definitely an improved Fulham, but Spurs can net a few.

        Demichelis Azpi Coleman (Ward Chester)
        Nasri Eriksen Lallana Barkley (Noone)
        Suarez (c) Aguero Lukaku

        0FT and 4.7 ITB

I want to swap out Barkley and Coleman. Should I do?

        C) Not take a hit and wait till next week to do one of the above
