Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Saturday

Saturday’s events continue with a quartet of three o’clock kick-offs, culminating in a crunchy tea-time clash at Stamford Bridge.

The battle to clamour free of relegation worries dominates the day, as Caridff seek out another three points to follow their unexpected St Mary’s triumph – a mid-table Stoke City are their opponents in South Wales. Elsewhere, compatriots Swansea make the trip to an out-of-sorts Newcastle in their bid to keep themselves free of the Premier League trapdoor. Paul Lambert will look to halt Aston Villa’s alarming slide down the table with their home tie with Southampton, while Crystal Palace will seek out a fifth straight win when they pay visit to Upton Park.

The day is rounded off by Chelsea’s bid to climb to the top of the table for 24-hours at least, as they look to hammer a nail in Sunderland’s coffin. Given the Black Cats’ show at the Etihad on Wednesday, however, we should expect the unexpected.

Look to our Twitter feed for all the news from the day’s team sheets, while our Dugout Discussion chatroom remains open for those looking to partake in some real-time banter.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone made 14 saves to thwart Chelsea. That's the joint-most by any goalkeeper in a Premier League game since 2003/04.

For those who haven't heard it..

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho: "My answer is simple and pragmatic. Congratulations to my players. They tried everything and left everything on the pitch. Secondly, congratulations to Sunderland they won and have three important points. It doesn't matter how and why.

"Congratulations to referee Mike Dean, his performance was really amazing and, finally, congratulations to [referees' chief] Mike Riley because of the way he organised things with the referees doing well according to their objectives."

Taking Salah off was a bad idea (I would've preferred Ramires or Willian off). So too was Willian's idea not to feed him on that breakaway in favor of Eto'o instead. Yes, I punted on Salah this gameweek. So what! I'm still right! 🙂

    Terrible post match interview.

70 odd games unbeaten at home in PL, assistant sent off for accosting the ref, and its all the worlds fault.

Easy to forget the dive Ramires took vs W Brom. Swings and roundabouts.

What he definately is is a poor sportsman who condoned his own players cheating (Ramires) but can't accept when it happens his team...............

If only Liverpool had other European games. I remember how tired they were around christmas because of the games backing up. Got knocked out of the FA Cup and COC early as well and we have played almost 15 games more than Pool this season so they can consider themselves extremely lucky this season. Fluke penos, less games , 100% focus on PL .
